I just got mine down the other day! Not looking forward to the snow flying, but I do look forward to how the lawn is going to look next year after all of the work I have been putting into it at the end of this year.
That's sounds great! I hope we both end up with a great lawn in the spring. Hopefully the winter will be light this year. We can use a break. Best wishes to you.
It’s starting to get into the low 90s here in Texas and I’ve done a slight renovation, filled in some low spots and did a seeding, my idea is that if I get good germination it’ll make my Reno in the spring that much easier. Get the growth a few months before it goes dormant
I use a 13-13-13 fertilizer and do it in March. They sell that at Lowe's. It feeds for 8 months, so fall spreading would be impractical in the fall. I use a weed killer in areas that chick grass, dandelions, or wild onions grow. It's the type that doesn't hurt grass & can be replanted a day after made by spectracide. I have about the greenest lawn on my street, & I live in central Virginia.
I dig that blacktop road thru your jungle. It's very Jurassic, like any second you'll be attacked by someone in a blowup T-Rex costume while fertin the no water lawn.
Wow Brother, it truly is amazing how your non-irrigation lawn looks! Say, for the fall did you also spray some more of your Humic & Sea Kelp formulation down for the fall? Thx for warning me not to have a Phosphorus component. By the way, I'm a transplanted South-Shore, MA guy ... now in the Virginia side of the DC metro area and I have Zoysiagrass. Does the same 18-0-12 apply to Zoysiagrass???
Latest in lawn care shows K is not good to be a part of last fertilizer app as it increases chances for snow mold, what I personally experienced as well.
Love the video, I have a bag of lesco weed and feed 18-0-9 would that be ok for winterizer? Note I'm from Illinois new construction house with sod installed early September. What would you recommend?
Do you know if that type of fertilizer affects dogs negatively? Bc we should’ve did this but we moved in the middle of winter.. so next year… but we have 2 dogs.
Lesco literally has at least 40 different fertilizer mixes. I realize that it's a very general question - and depends on soil, etc. -- but do you recommend this specific ratio for the winter feed? -- 18-0-12? And ... for you, no pre-emergent in late fall? ... just start with early spring feed?? Thanks much again for your awesome info.
So I'm actually going to do my last cut and our water is going to be cut off so do I just drop fertilizer then stop watering? Thanks for all your great content
Yes that is totally fine. Fertilizer does not always have to be watered in and in fact getting rained in when it happens is just fine. Thank you for the nice comment too.
Nice job on these videos, thanks. I'm currently working on renovating my lawn here in MA. It looks similar to yours before you started working on it. So I plan on seeding it in September with a starter fertilizer, then applying a zero-phosphorous fertilizer in November. Does that sound reasonable? Until September, I'm just focusing on killing the weeds and getting some lime down.
For me based on my own research this would be the last application of the year. You could still apply humid acid if that is something you are interested in also. That can be applied anytime outside of a hard freeze. I did another video on that if you haven't seen it and would like to learn more. Thank you for watching.
Great videos as always. Do you have any concerns with high K application late in the season with bluegrass snow mold? If you like to try some Carbon Earth Cx let me know.
Thank you I haven't had an issue with it. Remember that here in New England the grass still grows until even December depending on temps. Slower but still growing.
From what I have read/been researching is you want to be at least above 50 degrees at night. If the weather gets too cold at night, it won't set correctly. So do this before the average norms at night are below 50 degrees. There are other videos where they say 40 degrees, but of course every one has different opinions, but this is just what I was seeing. So I'll stick to the 50 degree plan. Also don't apply on wet or already frozen grass/ground. You want to get this out during a dry day, and then water in well for the next few days, or let the rain water it if rain is upcoming in the following days.
I did some overseeding over a month ago - new grass is finely coming through my aeration holes -about 1.5 inch in height now. Is it ok to start my fall fert or should I wait till end of October? My new grass is mixed in with old grass, but other areas are just all new grass.
I have a couple questions about winterizing.... do you cut your lawn before fertilizing ? Does winterizing keep the grass green throughout the winter season ?
You definitely can' those products only work on the roots structure so the blades are fine for mowing. We never seem to know when mowing ends here in Mass, a week ago it was 30 during the day, today its 75! Never ends!
I did some research for your and I would say that it is not the perfect choice but it will still be more than usable. I would apply it as soon as possible so that the extra nitrogen can be taken up and not wait any longer. I think you will have good results. Thank you for watching.
@@SilverCymbal , great video!!!! I am on the same situation. The stores around me only have 24-0-11 or 18-0-9... I have about 0.6 ac to cover... should I still buy this? I am in Great Falls, VA. Cheers!
OMG ! You didn't talk about trace nutrients. Out in the Northwest where it rains an awful lot there are areas that need boron and otherr minerals in (or after or before) the winter fertilizer. And you said nothing about calcium or magnesium or zinc or copper or iron to kept the moss from taking over during the winter months. Thanks for the research you already did on winter fertilizers but why not expand your research a litte?
Please *LIKE* and *SUBSCRIBE* if you aren't already. Thank you for watching and stay tuned for more videos
please when do you have to apply this fertilizer ? exactly what month ?
Please suggest which Fertilizer to use this Fall?? Can’t find Lesco 18-0-12
@@ismailpethania74 This is what I use now, its easy since you can get it on Amazon and is awesome amzn.to/3ozbvPp
Your no water lawn looks awesome, thanks for the videos
Thank you very much
Thank you so much!! Glad someone from New England is here to give great information. Much appreciated.
Thank you so much glad it was helpful. Many other videos on the channel and more coming soon to help the lawn.

You’re definitely one of the guys I follow I learned a lot from you
Such a beautiful piece of land.
Your driveway wow! We need a tour haha
Great video. I just did mine Saturday
It's sad to see the season winding down but you will be ready for next year. Thank you for the comment and for watching.
Great video! I will use that as well! Nice fert. Spreader! Love the Kabota!

Hey I like your video and I’m going to do it in my lawn care business thank you for the advice Frank from Noblesville Indiana Galvez Lawn Care
Thank you very much
Lawn is looking great and fantastic tip! #truth
Thank you very much I really appreciate it.
When do you usually throw down your winterizer fertilizer application
My 0-0-50 went down 2 weeks ago. Along with the second app of Prodiamine pre-M.
I love it! that's great you are ahead of me! Thank you kindly for watching.

Sorry for the obvious ignorance, do u apply this 18-0-12 before or after a rain. Thanks tim from Missouri
Thanks do much for this video. So if fertilizer is very important in the fall, when do you start back to applying organics like Milo?
Early spring is fine to back to organics and then through the season. Thank you also for the nice comment.

For crying out loud your driveway is longer than a hard winter !!:}
Do you know if that type of fertilizer affects dogs negatively? Bc we should’ve did this but we moved in the middle of winter.. so next year… but we have 2 dogs.
Just to be clear.. you really need to know your grass type.. that nitrogen is a huge no-no for centipede grass in the fall early winter..

My lawns look great with late season applications. It is great advice!
I’m wondering if there is a soil temperature that is best for fall feeding 🤔

When to apply. Not in bag. Not going in search. I know how. But late August here in Indypass & my grass looks puny now?
I can’t find this products online or store. Is there any other products you can recommend. Thank You
I did some overseeding over a month ago - new grass is finely coming through my aeration holes -about 1.5 inch in height now. Is it ok to start my fall fert or should I wait till end of October? My new grass is mixed in with old grass, but other areas are just all new grass.
From a month ago I would say yes to fertilize. You can all go a little lighter for extra safety. Thats great to hear its working out well too.
I have a couple questions about winterizing.... do you cut your lawn before fertilizing ? Does winterizing keep the grass green throughout the winter season ?
I'm finding Lesco 24-0-11, but not Lesco 18-0-12. Will the 24-0-11 work as a good winterizer?
You don't want to do this where you over seeded in the fall do you? Burn out the new seedlings?
Can I cut my lawn even though I winterized last week? The temps here are in the 70s (Ohio)
You definitely can' those products only work on the roots structure so the blades are fine for mowing. We never seem to know when mowing ends here in Mass, a week ago it was 30 during the day, today its 75! Never ends!
What month is best to do the last winter fert. For kbg
Depends where you are really but for me its usually October in Mass
Silver Cymbal I’m in Illinois. Still be October ?
would a 24-0-11 be fine or is that too much N? I am in RI
