When he talks to them they discuss how Lalo paid for his dentist, which in reality was Lalo swapping Mateo’s dental records with his own. That’s why Tyrus believed Lalo had actually died since the dental records matched. And Sylvia died just cause she was a witness. Very brutal

Mateo and Sylvia were kept in a hacienda by Lalo just in case an assassination attempt has ever happened (which it did) Lalo decided to put his dental records on Mateo not only because the lad complained his teeth were in constant pain but to make sure that in case Lalo wanted to fake his death, He can pin on Mateo as his body double and burned it, hence told him to keep the mustache. Lalo kills Sylvia cause she was an loose end Pretty horrific that these couple were homeless and Lalo took them in and were thankful unaware that they were being used for a different sinister plan
