We are happy to announce that Gert van Hoef is invited again to give a
concert on the big Henry Willis organ of the Victoria Hall in
Hanley, Stoke on Trent (UK) on the 12th of August 2017.
Tickets are available at the ticket box upon entry on the day of the recital.
Admission fees: £9.00 - concessions £7.50
Reservations are not necessary.
Concert starts at 12:00 noon
There will be a ‘Meet and Greet’ after the concert.

Not only is Gert an excellent organist...but a very versatile, personable young man with a great sense of humor.....not to mention the beautiful assistant who compliments him and his talent.....and he speaks perfect English.......what more could us organ enthusiasts want??....Bravo Gert....
Monsieur Zippie, Gert van Hoef parle aussi désormais un peu français (même si, dit-il, c'est une langue difficile ! mais Gert ne recule jamais devant les difficultés...). Je l'ai appris lorsque je me suis rendu à Rotterdam, le 25 avril 2017, pour assister au beau récital qu'il a donné à l'église Saint-Laurent, et qu'il a prolongé en saluant ses auditeurs, avec courtoisie et humour.
Maintenant qu'il est diplômé du Conservatoire royal de La Haye et donc reconnu par ses pairs, il va falloir qu'il envisage de se présenter à des concours internationaux, comme le concours d'orgue de Dudelange (Luxembourg), dont l'orgue lui est cher, ou le concours Jean-Louis Florentz à Angers (France).
C'est toujours un plaisir d'entendre Gert van Hoef en concert, sur les vidéos qu'il nous propose (l'intégralité du récital donné en Angleterre le 15 août 2015 est disponible sur la vidéo qu'il avait postée le 6 septembre 2015).

What a great concert it was, Gert. Well worth my trip from Northern Ireland and a great opportunity to introduce a friend to the world of the pipe organ.
This young fellow has it all...most young organist are phenomenal technicians, he "is" the music. His spirit is of the ancients that have gone before him.

Op Gert's website zag ik dat hij in december dit jaar (2019) een concert zal geven in de Grote of St.Laurenskerk in Rotterdam. Ik zal er zeker bij zijn, wil hem heel graag eens in het echt horen! Geweldige, verfrissende organist met een eigen stijl.

*One series of events I have wishlisted:* A United States tour for van Hoef, with stops to include (as of July 2017):
1. Adolphus Busch Hall, Harvard University, Cambridge, MA. The 1958-vintage D. A. Flentrop III/33, originally specified by the late, great E. Power Biggs, is still operational after 58+ years.
2. Anabel Taylor Chapel, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. The 2011-vintage Yokota Munetaka II/30 is an exacting re-creation of the Arp Schnitger organ at Schloß Charlottenburg, which was destroyed along with the chapel during the war of 1939.
3. Historic Christ Church and Burial Ground (Episcopal/Anglican), Philadelphia, PA. C. B. Fisk Op. 150 is a brand-new III/49 commissioned to replace Æolian-Skinner Op. 926, an electric-action that required the bell tower for some of its resources.
4. Cathedral Church of St. Paul (Roman Catholic), Pittsburgh, PA. Recently overhauled by Taylor & Boody, Staunton, VA, the 1962-vintage von Beckerath IV/97 is a design on the scale of Schnitger's largest new builds of the late 17th Century.
5. First Congregational Church UCC, Columbus, OH. The 1972-vintage von Beckerath III/47 features a Brüstwerk-type swell and gallery-rail Positiv.
6. St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral (Anglican), Seattle, WA. 1965-vintage D. A. Flentrop IV/58, overhauled 1995 by Paul Fritts & Co.
7. All Saints Episcopal Church (Anglican), Palo Alto, CA. 1969-vintage D. A. Flentrop II/8.
Probably a lot more instruments in the Midwest that may be suitable for a tour.
Monsieur Schmerker, il faudrait ajouter à ce "United States tour" virtuel une étape à Rochester (NY), ville qui est devenue le creuset d'une école d'orgue américaine plutôt étonnante et très prometteuse, grâce à la richesse du département d'orgue de l'Eastman School of Music, attachée à l'Université de Rochester (établissement, ne l'oublions pas, qui fut fondé par un Français, en 1921, l'organiste Joseph Bonnet, qui fut titulaire des grandes orgues de Saint-Eustache à Paris). Son rayonnement actuel est dû notamment au Prof. David Higgs, ainsi qu'à certains de ses brillants élèves, comme Nathan Laube ou Jeremy Jelinek.
Mais on pourrait tout aussi bien concocter un tour de France d'orgue à Gert van Hoef, en passant par Rouen, Toulouse, Nancy... et en s'attardant bien sûr à Paris (Notre-Dame, Saint-Sulpice, Saint-Eustache, Sainte-Clotilde, la Madeleine, Saint-Etienne-du-Mont, Saint-Séverin...).

Went to see Gert today in Hanley. I enjoyed most of the set. A couple of pieces were over my head. I couldn't work out if his fiancee was the lovely Shirien from this video? She was too far away to tell and i don't remember Gert saying her name. Very remiss of him since she was working hard too.
marcel-nine-one-one the name of this years registrant was Marjolein, who is also his soon to be wife!
So what happened to Shirien and what did he do with the body? :)
Shirien looks as great as Marjolein. And I think some of his viewers come here for the female part of his vids.

Gert is a musician, not just a technician playing the organ. There is a huge difference. Probably why they invited him back. Can the U.S. be far behind?

For those of us relying on CZcams, can I put in a plea for improved acoustics. Gert's London interview in 2015 after Hanley was an acoustic disaster, and the sound at Hanley itself wasn't the sharpest. Given the superb sound engineering at Geraardsbergen last year I don't doubt the technical expertise, but Hanley seems to be an acoustic challenge.
We had no pretensions to make a broadcast quality product, as the relatively short stay and the limited amount of luggage we could take with us inhibited us to have all of the equipment there to do a full professional recording of both video and audio.
Lucky enough, Father Geurt and friend Mark Janssen took their consumer-cams with them, and we were promised a copy of the images recorded by Victoria Hall's own camera's. Unfortunately, because of a few technical problems it was not possible to supply us with the full-HD recordings of both the pedal board and the keyboards. So we had to make do with the material which was at hand, and we think that the end-result is very worthy of watching. If the image of the video is too grainy on your computer-monitor, please try downsizing it just a fraction to 720p or smaller. It was our simple thought (and wish) that the fans who could not be there to join us at the Victoria Hall, should be offered a chance to see and hear the concert afterwards on the Gert van Hoef website. Our obligation to share the enjoyment and fulfill the wish of many, outweighs our own criticism and reasons not to publish it.
I'm very glad you did publish it and I enjoyed it immensely. I guess as technology evolves so do our expectations. I can also appreciate the logistical challenge of your first major foray away from your home comfort zone. The best of luck next month.

I'm quite jaleous, my girlfriend has no interest whatsoever in the organ, and the only close thing to a registrant I have is my brother, and I have to yell at him to change the registers, because he is too busy browsing reddit while I play...

Like the old joke, "Taste is like a nose - most people have one". I respect your taste, but like others who have responded, I enjoy Gert's musicality. In contrast, I really don't like Ton Koopman's organ playing, although I love his interpretation of Bach Passions...
