      Well let's head them off at the pass then. In order for those to fail, the wood would literally have to be crushed and wood is extremely strong in compression, it doesn't matter if it's end-grain compression or cross grain, but my experience leads me to believe that wood is even stronger against compression across grain than with the grain. There, we'll let the negative Nancys chew on that.

      I was a search and rescue tech in the Army for little and at the school I got my certifications, we used to use wood framing to hold up parts of concrete walls, we would crib school buses and cars before doing rescues. I think one time we even used wood cribbing on a huge concrete pipe. I think for the bus we had to use 4x4 cribbing and lay a 6x6 across the frame.

      We use loose 4x4 lumber on the fire department for stabilizing large vehicles or whatever. Plenty strong

    • @PaganWizard
      @PaganWizard Před 4 lety +1

      House cribbing is usually done with 6X6 lumber, but then again, a house weighs a mega shit ton more than any passenger vehicle. 2X4s are absolutely PERFECT for this application, and I have been doing this for years and years.

Way safer than axle stands, way safer than going to corona burger for breakfast as well. I'm amazed they are still doing non essential fast food in the US. I envy this kinds of trucks that exist in the West. Such a clean and robust design this old tractors. Such nice craftsmanship and life long usability. Outside of inefficient drivetrain (due to when built) and slightly to heavy built, well this workman's machinery are just outstanding. This "death" machines are what we should have on the roads. Going slow and carefully used and maintained for work tasks. Built to last a lifetime and be a tool like a hammer. We in Europe has or rather had the grate person movers (volkswagen) Built light, fwd and safe enough in a accidental collision. We still got the best small worker van's (Caddy and the French Berlingo) But heavy duty van's/trucks all points to USA and such. But even medium work vans I think Europe do better. (Transporters, French Ducato's) Then wherever Toyota old school trucks are better medium trucks or not then something old school made in USA.... Well I can not say honestly.
    Problem is that todays junk is made to fail and replaced every few years. And the traffic is so undisciplined and lazy. It is to dangerous to travel in stuff not built like racing vehicles. Self driving should be banned and really to not do something about safety on the roads. Like common! Car manufacturer's make self driving vehicles as drivers can not be bothered to drive a deadly machinery??
    Find it funny how someone that believe a Tesla or something is environment friendly. Taking a 80s design and modernize it would be environment friendly. And keeping it on the road for 40+ years.
    But then you do not have fancy computer screens or self driving madness. And probably stuff like servo steering and whatever need to go. 0-60 times being high and safety poor compared to todays cars made to crash in 200km/h. Like common sense dose not exist today...
    Keep it runnin! Looks like a keeper! :) Loved that sound! (hard to think that was stock from factory but still nice!)

    Lucky, Don't set these on top of the HF wheel dollies. Those castors are horrible and get stuck in side load positions constantly. With the car/truck up so high and them getting stuck, you take a big chance of dropping the car off.. Best thing to do is get a 2 x 6 or 8" and add them in the same way as the rest of the build and add 4 quality castors to each one. You will use them for years without issues and you'll be glad you did... You can even run 2 x's from one to another to keep them solid and roll it all out onto a shitty surface without worry!!!
