  • League of Legends fans will remember MSI 2019 for a very long time.
    From Liquid’s impossible upset over tournament favorites Invictus Gaming. To G2's historic win.
    An EU vs. NA grand finals is what most Western League fans’ dream of. And Liquid and G2’s unexpected climb to the top has a lot of people saying that the mythical gap - the difference in skill between the West and Korea - may finally have closed.
    But has it?

      @@FoxGHosen26 i think they 'broke' league not in the sense that now teams try to copy their styles but in the sense that they were one of the firsts to disregard what was going on in the LPL and in the LCK (Korea pretty much dictated every meta since they got their own server) and played what they wanted, the last time something like this really happened and it was successful was back in the days of Moscow5 if there are even people out there who remember those days.
      Its not entirely true that the world follows G2s playstyle now, both Korea and China differ from the LEC at some points while they are the same elsewhere. One final and a single title is not enough to break the Asian dominance, only if the West can replicate these kind of finishes consistently. The West now holds 2 official international titles (Season 1 Worlds and MSI 2019) while Asia got everything else, its waaaay too early to talk about a western or a staright up european dominance.
      However I do agree with the original comment: I thought this video was going to explain why and how G2 was able to e.g. play mages bot consistently, flex Pyke into every position and make it work and how you can play funnel in your regions final and still dominate. Instead, we got a glorified montage with a clickbait title so EU fanboys click to celebrate and talk shit about other regions and NA fanboys click to critique and talk shit about EU. Yay.

      @Anson Zhao The reason why I count it is because Fnatic is engraved on the Summoner's Cup since the trophy was made in 2012, TPA being the second to be engraved, which means that Riot has always regarded Season 1 as a real Worlds even if Fnatic got their skins later (2015 or 2016 I'm not quite sure) and even if the official name was Season One Championship without the actual word "world" in it.

    i think moving perkz to adc was a genius move.
    generally speaking, adc is the position that requires the most mechanical accuracy as a player and perkz is probably one of the best purely mechanical players there is. his weakness in midlane was always that he was too aggressive and didnt have great map awareness often times resulting in him getting caught out (which would be the main issue in almost all of g2s losses).
    in bot lane he always have someone there to pull him back and control that aggression so that is gets used in the right moments.
    on top of that, scoring the best midlaner in europe to replace him wasnt exactly bad for the team either.

    • @harutothefriendlyodst7639
      @harutothefriendlyodst7639 Před 3 lety +4

      a year late, but moving a Mid to adc is still relatively bad move on their side, Perkz as a player is always a midlaner, even when it comes to his plays, compared to dedicated ADC players of this generation (like Jackylove of IG back in the day, LWX, who schooled him in the finals of 2019, or a better example the Adc he most recently lost the semis to, Ghost).
      Perkz Plays like a midlaner regardless of where he is, and it's not like Mikyx is doing anything to Reign him in too, if anything Miky facilitates most of Perkz more aggressive playstyles. if Perkz gets a better support, Maybe he'll be a better ADC. but as it stands he's just an assassin that borrowed a longbow from an archer and thanks to his skill is able to hit a few things, but compared to an actual archer would still look relatively child like.
      (as what happened when he met Dedicated ADCs that were actually better than him.)

    • @thekillingtomat
      @thekillingtomat Před 3 lety +1

      @@harutothefriendlyodst7639 I wouldn’t say he plays as a midlaner but rather that he’s overly aggressive like he always is. You saw him struggle in the exact same way when playing against midlaners that were better than him. He doesn’t have an off switch.
      It would definitely have been good for him to have a support that kept the aggression in check.

    The western team played their own style during the regular season and as soon as it goes to worlds, they tried to play like skt and failed hard. Now that they play their own style international, everyone has adapt to them and finally they can play on their conditions. I think thats the main gap for the best teams of eu/na.

    • @jyashin
      @jyashin Před 4 lety +1

      Not really. What is more important is that the "control meta" that dominated professional League has been evened out. This MSI G2 was able to play weird picks like Pyke top and simply win despite heavier scaling on SKT's side. But don't forget SKT still pushed it to game 5. With an entire season to figure things out, Worlds 2019 will be the true test to see if Western teams can close the gap.
      I blame Invictus losing to TL squarely on a lack of preparation. They completely looked past TL, and basically spent all their time preparing for G2 and SKT. TL for their part was focused entirely on beating Invictus. Which translated into the shortest series ever in international tournament when G2 3-0'd them.
      NA has performed so poorly historically that I think people forgot they are still a major region. I doubt the same mistake will happen at worlds.

The reason why the gap between teams at the international level in dota isn't too big is because they get to play against each other frequently and make each other better, while still having their own distinct styles.

      i think that's the big bluff put up by G2 - they look like they're just blokes messing around; but they actually have a really deep grasp of the game and an almost perfect read on the current meta. they also dare to try unconventional strats, bolstered by a confidence in their self-evident mechanical skills.
      this allows them to get insanely favourable drafts, since opponents can't predict their unconventional picks and can never ban them out; while G2 are free to flex any of the top meta solo lanes around since their laners are all capable of carrying with multiple champs.

But besides that theres also the fact that khan is pretty subpar as far as a Korean player goes. The only games he has done very well so far are mostly when hes on either riven and fiora, much like all the soloq one tricks u see all over. @@Bonobo_JoJo The OK sign was SIGNAL. If you don't understand how signals are different from day to day activities I can't do anything for you.
      The New Zealand shooter did the OK sign on his livestream RIGHT BEFORE shooting people !
      How is this comparable to him brushing his teeth off camera the day prior ?
      Can you at least, at the very least, understand why a corporation after such an event would ban such a sign ?
      It would be like in the early 30s "you can't ban the roman salute because fascist do it after beating jews".

      @@darrenfleming7901 That is true, but I personally enjoyed the matches in MSI more than the ones in Worlds 2018 in general. I myself was excited for Fnatic in worlds too(Broxa with that Lee Sin🔥) , it was a joy to watch them play but the finals were just heartbreaking.
      I hope we get to see more of Fnatic this coming worlds, maybe SKT will rise up and reclaim their throne, G2 might dominate and win it all, Liquid is going strong and C9 or TSM might as well give a good performance, and what about the other rising Chinese and Korean teams? Worlds 2019 just looks like old teams back at their top with renewed rosters, and new super teams ready to clash.
