- League of Legends has no shortage of talented players.
More often than not, talent isn’t the only thing that gets them their spectacular results. Sometimes, the grueling hours push the players’ bodies - and minds - beyond their limits. But not everyone is interested in taking their work home with them.
And perhaps no one exemplifies this better than Martin “Wunder” Nordahl Hansen - the top lane terror for G2 Esports.

He's like our one friend who never attend school but always pass the exams.
He gets to win and have a life.
It's more than that. It's like somebody doing almost no homework then tryharding before exams and ending up with the best grades.

If he doesn't find value in playing Solo Q and only improves through team practice then I don't see what the problem is, it's clearly working given the 4 LEC wins in a row
He destroyed Finn (Rogue Toplaner) and won clearly against Bwipo in Game 2 and Game 3
As long as his matchup knowledge and mechanics are on point no real point to burning out in soloQ
SoloQ is just one way to improve
Honestly soloQ and pro matches/scrims are to very different games, I don't really know why people actually puts that much weight into soloQ

I think it was the same back in spring split where Jankos said something similar because THEY HAVE TO win in 3 games or he will miss his raid. If i remember correctly there was also a statement regarding this after the OG game in playoffs (3:1 win) because he missed his raid.
What a legend
@@poxi2036 its probably an in team meme like lol why would you ever schedule a raid around when you are having pro games?
Basically the dude sees it like a job, gives his all in scrims and team practice but when it's off the clock he just relax and do things he likes to do. Really a good and healthy approach as he can keep his mental and perform at a 100% every time since he does not need to improve his mechanics that much anymore and soloQ won't help him at that too much really. In sports we don't see people practicing when they can't take advantage of that days practice anymore, this is the same thing.

Thing is, people seem tot think that putting yourself for 10 hours of soloq is the same as improving your skills. Not to say that it won't help, but it's not the same at the pro level
@@idkidc7513 Most likely for wunder it will just damage his mentality about the game. Since his gameplay so good already why force extra hours when he dont feel like playing might make his focus worse when he actually does play.
Instead of analyzing why wonder doesn't play soloq and still perform, analyze why soloq grind is completely waste of time and hurting physical and mental health of players
perkz and caps play a decent amount of soloq so i wouldn't call it useless
On the contrary 🧐, Soloq can actually improve your mechanical skills since the Pro's have to 1v9 almost every game they play. And as for mental health, Soloq would actually be beneficial to Pro's because their mental fortitude would constantly be tested by those insufferable Teemo mains and piloted Mastery lvl 7 Yasuo players, not to mention the 200 years of experience the Riot balance team has. It is effectively a mental workout and a mental durability test 🧠.
And so I rest my case 👏.

okayy we multitasking now guys
He's smart. He avoids getting burn out in shitty toxic soloQ. So when he plays on stage he remains fresh and motivated.
He is smart he doesn’t fatigue himself just like sports you don’t want to fatigue your self mentally or physically
That´s the reason G2 is the only org i respect. They seem to be the only ones who have understood that there´s more to a player´s performance than him practicing his mechanics 24/7.
He needs to also be rested, invested in the teams success and not mentally exhausted. When they gave Perkz free time due to his family situation, they gained my respect, because i am pretty damn sure something like that would not have happened under the banners of the likes of TSM or SKT or whatever. There are probably other teams who are not actively enforcing this hardcore grind lifestyle, but so far G2 seem to be the only ones who actually value their players having a good work life balance and for me as a viewer it´s much more fun to watch players who are enjoying what they´re doing. It´s also why i stopped watching LCS games. You can almost feel the tension in those players and it´s no fun to watch.
So yeah, Wunder definitely is smart for doing what he does and i´d bet that other teams could benefit a lot from following his approach, at least to a certain degree.
@@bikesnblades6737 I fully agree with what you said here. When caps left fnatic he seemed tired or strained and look at him now, he plays with a big smile every game i get the feeling he feels a lot more at home and that is why I respect G2 as well. It seems they dont force their players to do anything they know they know they have skill and want them to have the ability to have a laugh, to have fun but most of all grow as a team. When i look at some teams i just feel like they are people who play as a team but arent one if that makes sense. With g2 you can almost feel a brotherhood like they can all poke fun and have fun at each other which helps sooooo insanely much when it comes to mental.

They literally waited to release this so G2 could win the LEC final first.. I see what you did there
Its really insane how little he actually tries compared to pros and how he is always up there

not really lol, Wunder is toplane, the easiest lane to camp and dominate, winning the toplane at pro level is fucking big since you get an avantage in 3v3. The toplane winner usually give free access to the top jungle of the enemy. If you get the enemy top out of the game, you can out the jungle too. That's exactly what happen during Top Esport vs FNC btw

Seems like G2 got at "F*** that" mentality.
Wunder: "F*** Practice"
Jankos: "F*** giving first kills to my team."
Caps: "F*** the enemy midlaner."
Perks: "F*** traditional botlaners."
Mikyx: "F*** everyone but my Nautilus."
This is why I watch LEC and nothing else. I'm a dedicated member of the G2 Army and will be always be until the roster is changed.

Eh?
I think there's one thing you're forgetting here. Scrims take up a lot of time in the day. A normal 4 blocks of scrim is roughly equal to 8-10 hours of just pure league of legends. Saying he doesn't practice is a bit disingenuous.

Ana is more like come to take paycheck and than go for vocation, wonder is like quick part time job before going raid
That's true tho 😂😂😂
Honestly, I would imagine playing after 8 hours of serious practice would default more to autopilot, means no major improvement from that. Only time I imagine playing soloQ would be huge benefit when new champion is released: muscle memory is important.
Everybody knows he's amazing and he's still underrated.
I was never the greatest fan of G2 after the 2 poaching controversies, but I always loved Mikyx and Wunder. Wunder deserves the love.

I mean Wunder solo carried vs Rogue yesterday and today was also pretty solid but not as 1v9 as against Rogue
Fitting that this is released today. XD You should have mentioned, however, that him being able to get away with this has a lot to do with his role being toplane. Other toplaners, like Soaz, were also known for taking practice lightly.
On a side note, I think Dimitry (Dmitry?) is my favourite narrator ever!
Wunder and others are still practicing such as scrims, strats, vods, etc. the difference is he is choosing to stream instead of grind soloq afterwards.

Actually, in WoW you have like 20 spells, you need to keep track of enemy's spells cooldowns, positioning, etc. I think that is more challenging from a mechanical point of view. Maybe playing WoW improved his mechanics in LoL? Who knows!
Addons keep track of that for you.
@@Starkimonde Yes, but they don't press buttons for you
Theres a reason for why wow never became an esport. It's always had balence issues and it simply just isn't that hard. It's more so game knowledge and gimmicks then actual mechanical skill. I'm no glad, but I am duelist ranking when I did play as I'm primarily a mythic raider. I don't know which one but in one of shrouds videos, when he played csgo, they were told not to play wow because it led to a degradation of skill in their primary game.
@@Starkimonde WoW PVP is an e-sport, every year we have several tournaments including BlizzCon (it's like World Cup).
There is WoW in e-sports as PVE and PVP.
On another note, WoW has high mechanical skills. In a WoW arena you don't have any relax time like a "farm phase" in LoL.
And some classes are highly mechanical such as rogue, mage, druid, etc.
By playing WoW you'll still train awareness, mechanical skills (keyboard management is way more difficult in WoW than in LoL), communication, etc.
Of course, you'll still have to dedicate 75-80% of your time to your primary game, or else you'll lose the game-specific mechanics such as animation cancelling, hourglass timing, flash combinations, ward hops, etc.
