  • Ballast spoil train arriving, shunting, unloading, re-assembling and departing from Wacol in Queensland. This is a long video which covers 3 hours of railway operations condensed into half an hour. Filmed from public access points with original sound which may become annoying as level crossing beeping occurs during much of the shunting.

A common runner to Wacol although it has slowed down recently.

I knew all the crews working this train. Unfortunately, the driver on the last half was a mate I did my driver's school with who not long after this would take his own life. Work, it's not just about the job.. it's the people that do it. R.I.P mate.

That is so sad Adrian. My condolences. There is always someone to talk to, but mental health is such a personal thing, particularly for us men. And you're right about the people you work with make the job.

@Alan Jones yeah exactly Alan. And it's been my experience it's usually the ones who always put on the brave face and joke around that have the dark side gnawing at them. A side note, I worked this job a fair bit. I end up being giving a steer at the mini excavator to unload some of the wagons, because I told the operator that I had once been a plant operator before joining QR. He put me on, asked me if I wanted a coffee from the shop and left me to it for over half-hour. The QR trackie managing the job was making sure I did it right too, the best bit of fun I had while I was supposed to be sitting on the Diesel. By the way, we all loved this job because of the take away shop with the Hugest Steak Burgers you could find... they feed an army for a week they were that big.

@@adriannettlefold9084 I must try that shop next time. The Asian shop across the other side of the road is okay too. I agree that playing with excavators is fun, although I only have driven a Dingo skid steer with triple bucket in my own back yard.

How were the yellow containers emptied? Raked out by the digger?

That was a long time ago Ken and I'm sorry I can't remember seeing them being emptied.

All that time the train sits on the level crossing, then when it has finally moved the other train comes through on the other track... Geez I just feel sorry for the people waiting in their cars lol

+Jamie Tane You're right, luckily it's not a major thoroughfare and the spoil train isn't there every day.
