Thank you. Im planning to re-visit this old hobby of mine, this time with planted aquarium. I came to the right video. 👍
Thanks man this was really helpful.. I was adding low water.. my seeds were getting mold.. now I'm good to go
Thank you for this! I recently bought the setup you got and day 2's got me excited to see some germination happening.
Aqua clear mini fliter Mitch.... That's what I run on it man, kept it clear.... Plants look nice bud!
Thanks, great and simple method!
i love how you talk through out the entire video especially when you said you aren’t patient enough to fill it up slowly 😂
This was really helpful! Thank you (:
Thank you so much ,i got many tips from your 20mins.
What's up Pittsburgh! I'm just up the Allegheny in Harmar... nice to see another fish guy from the area on youtube. Great stuff man.

Sharron Miller are they doing okay?! How long has it been?
Thank you for the help. I'm a newbie. .
Thank you that helped
Thanks For your Good Video..Be Green and Keep Growing.🎅🌲
I saw you were using a Dollar Tree mixing bowl, a Dollar Tree Betty Crocker strainer (with the handle) works well for me when filling tanks.
nice job man
Great video I don't remember you saying what kind of seeds they were but I'm definitely going to try this thank you very much for the info
its called glossostigma for short, I have a link in the description
@@pittsburghpets3759 I know this is an old video but they literally show two different plants on the packet of them and actual glossostigma in the pictures. Coupled with it now being unlisted I’m guessing these ended up rotting lol?
Love your videos, with regards to the carpet. At what height should you start to trim this carpets? 1 - 3 inches. If so will this help in carpeting the area of the aquarium? Forcing the carpet to spread out, versus going to the top of the tank? Thank you & be safe
NICE... MAN!
Yay!!! I was waiting for this video! Thanks for the information. I just ordered the seeds to give it a try. I'm still saving for the plant tools. Hopefully I can get the same results. 🙏👏
That's awesome! Email me pictures after you do to pittsburghpets16@gmail.com would love to see others results
@@pittsburghpets3759 no problem I will. I'll try it in the bowls first like you did it.
Sent it over. Sorry took it took so long.
@@getatyagurlsash and did it work ?
Would love to see an update on this. Definitely gonna try this. Thanks! 🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿
Absolutely will in a month or so
@@pittsburghpets3759 ? :)
@@pittsburghpets3759 update
There won't be one because the seeds turned out to be polysperma
Thanks! I'm using a uv light so I hope that works! But I appreciate this!
Good luck!
I love your videos
You inspired me to get my own aquarium💞
Thank you!
Congrats on hitting 5k
Can hardly wait for what you are gonna do next
nice!
Love the carpet, i wonder if it’s possible to put white sand over it during its growing period?
Did you cover the seeds with your substrate after you had laid them or did you just add the seeds and allow them to grow?
This video is really helpful. But how to plant these in top filtered tank???
I don't have enough money to fully carpet my aquarium. But yesterday I bought a small packet, i.e, half kilogram with my savings and just carpeted a very small portion of my aquarium 😭. All the other things, including the light is homemade. My biggest dream is to have a well carpeted and a very beautiful aquarium.
You can grow and thin and replant for maximum coverage over time.
Soooo I already have stock in my tank.. I though some seeds in the foreground a day later I can see some shoots poking out the top of the substrate
This is cool, ive tried so may different ways to grow them, rn im doing 2 inches reg dirt and 2inch larg pebles, its been about 2. 1/2 weeks and they are still small (using pebles cuz my plecos moved the dirt and would cloud up the water
I'm day 2 into my tank. So there is hope.
I think DIY and grow your own videos are always successful! People hate trying stuff that will fail so you get to play that part.
I am asking as a guy who knows nothing about these seeds to plants. Are the perennials? Or do they die and need replanting? I have heard various reports but all third hand so I know nothing. Could you set a Sponge Filter on the floor of the tank go get your filtration ready? Thank you, I am really enjoying this subject!!
I think so too, thank you. I don't believe they are, will do updates tho in the next few weeks. I have cycled brand new tanks with a old sponge filter in a day, if that answers your question. I fill with dechlorinated water, add a heater, ring out the sponge filter into the tank and then let it bubble till the tank clears back up.
Just to clarify. These seeds, when germinated looks like Glossostigma. In reality if you grow these properly they look like Hygrophila araguaia (narrow and long leaves) or Hygrophila polysperma(lobed large leaves) and exactly they are
I wanna see an update on this video to verify this. I just started to germinate them.
Jesse I don’t wanna burst your bubble but it didn’t work for me. I bought a nice new 5 gallon tank, and fluval spec, the seeds, and a really nice light for it. I did all of the steps. I put the substrate down, and then the seeds, I every day I’d spray them down and then cover the tank with plastic wrap and turn the light on. They grew beautifully and I didn’t add water for 12 days and after I added water it looked amazing. It’s been 9 days since I added water to the tank and it looks horrible. The color turned to a dull grey and it’s just dying in patches. It was a waste of my time. I’m curious though to see what happened with yours because maybe I just did something wrong
@@belle369 There are various types of scam carpet seeds, and you might have gotten unlucky and got a terrestrial plant rather than an aquatic plant. The most common scam seeds are a aquatic stem plant. Do you have a link to what you bought? Typically hygro is sold as "small leaf" and "large leaf" carpet seeds are terrestrial and can't survive underwater.
Im adding my update.
1. I bought the seeds from the link provided here. Also bought some seeds for hairgrass.
2. hairgrass seeds never really germinated while the glossostigma here germinated real well
3. I am using 2.6 spec v
4. after all the steps i added water.
5. after about 2 weeks of cycling added a snail and betta.
6. the plant is thriving. they do look stemmy but.. so far i am happy with it.
i wish i can share pic. but... idk.. idk my aquatic plants well, but i keep them trimmed down and they look good for me..I guess it is luck of the draw too.

TQ showing want to ask someone if you fail up the water antichlorine put or not put inside the water
I'm gonna try this when me and my family moves to our new apartment.
And it's not going fast enough, I want to do this now😑
Just want to ask, will the grass die after awhile? Do I need to regrow them?
Beautiful!
I would like to know if this works with fine black sand (basaltic) or any sand at all?
Not recommended but you can try it.

Hello, I am a beginner to grow aquarium from seeds. I got Tetra Complete Substrate and Tetra Active Aquarium Substrate. Should I add complete substrate first, then add seeds and then add active substrate? Thanks.
if you grow them outside the aquarium is it easy to place them in an existing aquarium?
Will a seed grow if they are close to each other and i water them by spraying 2x a day
Great video like always 😎👍 how's the clownfish doing
Thank you!
… he died :(
tanks still running and got some damsels and a crab that are doing well. will have a update in a few weeks
@@pittsburghpets3759
Welcome anytime 😎👍 and oh wow but that's good that everything else is doing well after watching your budget saltwater videos I got my first saltwater tank with a clownfish and a peppermint shrimp 🙂
Ive just layed my seeds yesterday so fingers crossed it will grow nothing yet did you white light or blue and white
Can you transplant it? I want to plant it in a container then move it to my aquarium one by one after squaping it
Do you need to keep the air inside the tank at a certain temperature?
I already have a shrimp tank going on, is it possible I can grow some of that small leaf grasses like you did on the side, and then plant them in my shrimp tank? I dont want to have to take out all my shrimp because they are having babies like crazy and disturb their colony. Please let me know if it’s possible. Thank you!!!
Did u cover the tank with wrap?
Why did mine take so long to sprout? I used exact same substrate and planted the same way but took 10 days before I had any sprouts.
Can u use grass seed or been sprout seed
What type of seeds did you get from Amazon?
Can i transplant these carpet with roots to other aquarium, will it work ? I mean like we plant montecarlo from cup?
What water did you use? Is tap water fine?
Super....love you handsome 😘😘😘
How we will get rid of fungus on the seeds
Can u already put fish in there while the plants are growing up?
How long should I light in every day for a send
Sir, How much inch of soil is rquired for good carpet grass?
Can I use a heat lamp ؟
Thank you…where can I buy the seeds?? There’s nothing available on your link any longer on Amazon…
Can I add more seeds once the grass started to grow?
Can someone help? I have a fully cycled tank (10 gal) with a betta in it. I'm wondering how I would even be able to add these plants? I want those plants because want to buy shrimp and they have absolutely no place to hide from BB (his temporary name 🤣) but I don't want to start all over with a new cycled tank and move my betta when he has only been in for 2 weeks.
Is it not possible at all?
Can i use blacksand instead of substrate?
Hi! How are the plants? Are they still alive? I've read tons online saying they are terrestrial. Love your fish room btw.
bueno al parecer son terrestre ya que no hay ni un sólo video que indique haya pasado el año , en verdad es una pena yo plante los míos , pero no quiero sumergirlos debido a que se pudrirán en un mes usuare las otras semillas que restan un paludario
Is hair grass good for carpeting?
How many days when you completely filled with water? Thanks
Guys is it okay if the temp inside the tank is hot during the germination of the seeds? And do I need to cover the tank with cling wrap? I add water level to the soil and sprayed it with water 3 times a day and let it open for 30 mins once a day. Your feedback is much appreciated =)
Can i plant the seeds in brown soil
I grew this, but you have to be on top of it, it grows very fast and it gets long, one major tip is make sure your seeds a rooted, sometimes when you spread the seeds it’s best to throw some soil on top of it just Incase, when’s it’s time to trim the plants gets pulled out from the soil,
Good advice! I have some of that going on
Is that aqua soil you are used ?
Did you have to use any CO2
Dumb question, can you still suction out the fish poop that sinks to the bottom?
And is aquarium salt safe for plants??
I’m always kinda worried about getting bacteria or molds while germinating especially in watery soil. Does that happen often or it doesn’t? If so, how to prevent it? Thanks.
Your method of not disturbing your new plant is nice and effective! I don"t use additional light. My Mondo grass is not thriving. It is not a true aquarium plant.
Newbie here..
how to make water to spray the seeds?
Hey im new to this carpet thing. I have a question, if it is okay to put gravel substrate first and then put the soil and then plant the seeds. Will the roots will grow or not? Hopefully you will reply thanks. Btw nice tips
Yes that will work.
How long for the lamp for one day? 6 hours?
Hi! What's your room temperature? Will the seeds germinate if the room temperature is around 16 degree Celsius?
my room temperature is around 78 degrees Fahrenheit
Mine turn into a kinda gel thing what did i do worng probable add to much seeds?
that is sometimes the process. did they ever grow after?
How long seed will survive
How long does it last underwater?
Light all day long?
Day 3 and there's nothing. I remove a lot of snail excretions. I know there are still more left in the aquasoil. Help! Is it the reason the seeds won't germinate 😢 lights and water are adequate could it be the excretions
Would be really interested in a follow-up. Lots of sprouting vids, but none showing long term results.
I will in the next few weeks. doing good so far.
Had a algae bloom but cutting back lights and adding a few snails helped a ton!
Is it really slimey?
I did this 8 days ago, and they look amazing! I’m going to wait another few days before I add water but I really love the final look of them
Edit: 9 days after I added water to the tank, they are all dying, really disappointing because it looked so pretty before :(
Im sorry. did they ever make it?
it needs fish water because of the fertilizer aka fish poop that can help it grow and stay alive.
do you have to have the water down that low or can you have a the tank filled and have a fish in it
GOC uzibo can fill it once get some roots and growth
Mine got molds😢 idk what to do
Is this need co2
I tried planting my lucky clover for almost a month and it just had roots and it just had molds.
maybe its to wet
Would these grow in normal aquarium gravel?
No
