    Hey maddie & Ale
    I am moving Uruguay first time within a month for working purpose for 2 years.
    Do you guys want to suggest me something. 😊

    • @MaddieAle
      @MaddieAle  Před 3 měsíci

      first of all, how exciting! and that depends a lot on what you already know / what you plan to do?
      Do you have accommodation set up already? if so in what neighbourhood?
      and is your job helping with the transition? I have an English student who moved to Montevideo from Mexico, and he adjusted really quickly because of help from his colleagues, and of course there was less of a language barrier than for us!
      However if you are trying to figure everything out yourself with banking, housing etc, it can be a real challenge

    Just curious. Why do homes have bars on the windows and doors? Is it decoration, or is home invasion a thing there?

    • @roystokes8435
      @roystokes8435 Před 3 měsíci +5

      Yes burglaries are common in Uruguay, well depending on the neighbourhood I guess.

    • @maximusmiles8435

      In the city at least in all the videos I've watch. They seem to be on every house. Except for in the rural areas. @@roystokes8435

    • @roystokes8435
      @roystokes8435 Před 3 měsíci +1

      Yea I think anyone who owns a house ends up getting those bars generally speaking, even if it's a not so dangerous neighbourhood. I guess the criminals move all over the city looking for vulnerable houses @@maximusmiles8435

    • @MaddieAle

      Honestly, every home we have lived in has bars on the windows and / or roller shutters for security purposes! even all of the ones we toured almost all had barred windows. I haven't heard of anyone who has been burgled... but it's better to be on the safe side!
      As an Australian the bars do bother me aesthetically speaking, but Alejandro is south african, so if the house isn't surrounded by barbed wire and an armed guard, its pretty chill in his eyes!

    Show the real Uruguay. No one but the very few rich can afford anything anymore. For Christmas this year even lentils are a treat for a million Uruguayans.

    • @MaddieAle
      @MaddieAle  Před 3 měsíci +4

      thankyou for this comment! this honestly is what we are trying to do. TRUST ME WE GET IT, we moved to a smaller home because we HAD TO. I bought a total of 3 christmas gifts for a total of 2.000 pesos because all our money went into paying for la guarantia y imobilaria.
      I'm going to film a video today on budgeting and our goals for the year / month, I (maddie) usually LOOK like i have money, because i like to do my makeup and I make all of my own clothes, so i always can have something that looks nice, but the reality is that food is expensive, petrol is expensive, rent is expensive, life is expensive, and I'm sorry if our videos ever make it seem like life here is easy! These little "monthly recaps" are intended to be more of a "highlight reel" so that we can look back on them in 5 years and remember the good moments, but in our other videos i feel like we usually show a good mix of the good and the hard times. Feliz año nuevo, y gracias por su comenta :)

      It seems to me that you don't know Uruguay, gentleman. On the other hand, Maddie does not show the best of Uruguay, she lives in a middle class neighborhood, she moves around by public transportation. There is a very rich part of Uruguay that she does not show in her videos, which is a country where 70% of the people live with a higher quality of life than any country in the northern hemisphere. Yes, there is a hard core of problem of around 20%, but I assure you that this percentage is also in the United States (unfortunately).

      What does this guy say? The girl has shown how she lives in a monoambiente (studio apartment) in Montevideo, that is, like any lower-middle class Uruguayan, in a country that is mostly middle class. And the lentils thing is very funny. If you are Uruguayan, you are clearly a troll, and if you are a foreigner, you are profoundly ignorant. We have problems in our country, but hunger is not one of them.
