    Being a fat guy I've been passed up by a lot of women. I've heard the "You're a great guy and all but..." more times than I'd care to admit. I get it, I really do. I don't blame any of them. So now I'm doing something about it. So far since the end of January (as of this morning) I'm 57 pounds down. Feels good, however, I still have to lose almost another 130 pounds. I'd really like to get my life back on track. It's no fun being really heavy.
    UPDATE! So you don't have to scroll through the feed. I'm about 103 more pounds down from the time of this comment. I went through a little bit of a relapse last year but eventually was able to pull myself back from it again. Now that's 160 down from January 2018 and it's over 200 pounds down from my 2014 record heaviest. Thank you for the insane amount of likes and comments, it's overwhelming.
    UPDATE 3/24/2021
    So 2020 turned out to be a real disaster (for everyone) and between quarantine, stress eating and other factors I ultimately gained a lot of weight back. Granted I was still lower than the original time of this post, but it still was a significant amount from this time last year bringing me from 248 back up too 335. In January of this year while still recovering from a back injury I once again forced myself to re-motivate yet again. Currently I am back to kicking ass. I have a weigh in coming up on March 28th. So I’ll know then where I stand. But in the meantime I’m getting stronger, and showing significant improvement overall. I’m back to hiking up mountains.
    Update 04/07/2021
    Okay so as of March 28th the weight is back down to 301. So that’s 163 pounds down from my heaviest and around 60 pounds down from the original time of this posting, So after a brutal 2020 it would seem I’m back on track in 2021. I am documenting it all on my channel.
    Been driving around the country knocking out hikes. Knocked out some in the Great Smoky Mountain National park, Zion and a few other places. Not sure if the weight has gone down, but my endurance is definitely improved.
    Update 05/21/2021
    Monday I hiked Rim to Rim at the Grand Canyon. It was one of those things I really wanted to accomplish. Now that I’ve done it with I’m going to get back into weight loss mode. Did not want to take on a hike like that going through a calorie restriction.

    • @SL-ul3yr
      @SL-ul3yr Před 5 lety +155

      I don't have statistics to back this up, but I assume that you're going off of personal anecdotes as well, so:
      I and most girls I know were bullied for our looks and just bullied in general from a very young age. This "women get coddled and aren't used to bad feedback" mentality is baffling to me. That only applies to *pretty* women. Unattractive women get treated basically like men; we don't get anything unless we prove we deserve it. Pretty women are the ones who get things handed to them and only face minimal bullying. I say bullying and not criticism because we're talking about body shaming here, not critiquing somebody's work portfolio.
      It's not female privilege, it's pretty privilege and it's a significant distinction.

    • @go2hellgrl
      @go2hellgrl Před 5 lety +14

      Oh no I assure you women are quite used to being criticized, shamed and flat out abused.

    • @omega1231
      @omega1231 Před 5 lety +34

      @@SL-ul3yr The bullying takes on a different form for boys and girls though, for boys it's mostly physical for girls it's mostly psychological, which might explain the neurotic tendencies of some women when it comes to critique, whereas boys get beat up which may lead to beating the bully, but also give the impression that violence is a valid solution. We are used to it from childhood that there are way worse things than words. That's not to say that some men can't take criticism, though i've mostly noticed it as a result of pride rather than low selfesteem f.ex.
      In the end people like to attack stereotypes, because it's easy and everyone knows them, but stereotypes always hold a grain of truth so while it may not be true for everyone, it's definently a trend that women doesn't have to be nearly as good looking (or as accomplished) as men to receive unearned kindness, mostly because i think that's actually a guy thing, to be kind beyond the normal because of looks, but i see a bigger trend for being nasty beyond the normal because of looks for women.

      @Midas @Midas dying from Tylenol overdose for example isn't pretty and I would not call it cowardly in comparison with other methods of suicide. Liver failure is one of the worst ways to die and isn't quick or painless, and you're right very impractical. I don't think I'd ever actually want to try that again. I'm not really afraid of dying, I'm more afraid of what happens if I fail and end up physically or mentally disabled. Maybe this is cowardly, but ending up disabled and having to rely on someone else wouldn't make the situation better.
      I know a lot of people who just want attention, probably because of the current social climate, but I imagine it isn't particularly great for your mental or physical health.
      But to be honest, that's not the only reason people feel depressed. There's often this feeling of life being a meaningless slog of going the same cycles of life over and over again, at least for me. Or the constant looming fear that I'll never actually accomplish anything great other than merely working to survive. Of course those are all issues that can be improved or changed.

I'm a pretty good height for my age but I always see shorter ppl being shamed for their height on Social Media constantly, with little to no backlash towards the people that are shaming them. At least people can make the argument that overweight people "can eat healthier, exercise, etc." (not in all cases which I understand 100%) but a shorter person isn't able to just GROW. We might get pressured to man up and change ourselves if we can.
    Most men, however, are more about practicality, if you can do what you want to be able to do you are generally happy with yourself.

    I was accused of fat shaming because a very large, unhealthy (already having a lot of health issues and surgeries and Sleep apnea) wanted to date me because he thought I was hot (I used to work out everyday and watch my diet). He tried to make me feel bad when I told him his weight bothered me (he wouldn’t just accept no, he made me explain). It made me mad so I asked him why he wanted to go out with me and he said my personality. I pointed out that he couldn’t know my personality from across the bar so he admitted it was because he thought I was hot. SO I just looked at him and said, “Why am I a bad person for wanting the same? Don’t I deserve the same?” He just walked away. I saw him months later and he appeared to be even bigger.

    • @fml5910
      @fml5910 Před rokem

      I'm sorry that guy was like that to you. I agree with you that it's not bad to want the same in a person. If you're staying fit, trying to take care of your body the best you can, then you deserve someone who does the same for their body.
      I know a guy in his early 60's, he's been overweight his whole life. Over the last 15 years he has become more obese. He's like 5'7'' i'll say at least 275, maybe 300 lbs. He thinks he's God's gift to women.He is not good looking, at all. He always lies and tells people that when he was younger he had a muscular in shape physique another lie. At a party or at someones house he tells them. Oh I usually don't eat the fattening foods they are serving, but he eats the food anyway, another lie.
      He is very mean, insecure,jealous,selfish, has a low self esteem, always has to talk negative about everybody. Just so he can make himself feel better.I'm trying to avoid him as much as I can, he treats me like crap. I so often feel like telling him how he is, and that he needs to lose weight, and lower his standards of what type of women he deserves.
      There is a woman his age, that wants to be in a romantic relationship with him, she is pretty, smart, makes good money, owns a house, she is very giving. But she has gained some weight but she's not nearly as fat, and gross looking as he is. But she's not good enough for him, because a woman can't have some extra weight, a belly, or some extra padding, yet he can.
      He used to be a very heavy drinker, got stinking drunk hit on women, they would be so turned off.Women and men both told me he's a asshole when he is drunk. Women even told me they don't find him attractive at all. I don't feel one bit sorry for him, he reaps what he sows. He is just a mean, loser, evil person who only cares about himself.
      He never takes accountability for his actions or harsh words towards me, and others.Lies about me, and other people to try to get them to turn against us, and he tells him he's the saint.

      @mic7able Před 6 lety +4

      I don't know if I'd quite generalise to that degree dude. Many, many women have a fucking shitty time. Especially given that one of the things we often complain about is absentee fathers; well it's women who deal with that mess and aftermath. Welfare whores or not, they're still left raising these kids. Plus, if men are, as I believe, good survivors... then all this 3rd wave feminism bollocks shouldn't even bother us.
      I'm worried that all this Men's rights stuff and the 'threat to masculinity' theory is actually turning us into whining pussies. Shouldn't we just ignore it all and get on with it. Like men?
      My original point was, that we shouldn't be whining at all. We're men after all.... If I was fat I'd just try and own it - Joey Diaz style!

      Yeah, but (and I take your point that everyone was treated like shit under the Squire-archy system), the men were at least allowed to drink in the (usually men only) pubs and taverns... Women were expected to stay at home and darn-socks; often later dealing with the lack of funds due to money spent on drink.
      I worked in a 'Living museum' in the Midlands (UK) and had to research this behaviour. Women were second class citizens (at best). Men had choices.

Trick there is following serving sizes to a T and measuring everything you eat. And I walked a lot, started at between 2-4 miles a day and worked that up to between 4-6 miles a day. Typically lost at least 3 pounds a week. Starting is hard but after a week or two when you get into habits it's like clockwork.

"look men dont get affected by this so why should women?" maybe men do get affected by it but dont want to seem weak. Do you want other examples ? These are words i heard from my experiences when i am near or inside girl's social circle, however, they do not reach males ears because women keep their secrets from fear which they call it "politeness". Shaming exists for one reason: to lower the self esteem of the other person and their reproductive value, because of jealousy, insecurity, to feel superior, unsuccessful personal actions. Everyone does it from time to time but we have to evaluate the shaming, why we do it, how this distorts and distracts us from our better expectations/achievements.

    Fat shaming is good for guys. We do get shamed our whole lives. Some react poorly to it, others use it to keep ourselves in check. I haven't been emotional about it since I was a young child and was still brutally made fun of for it. It was worse then, because I wasn't an adult and I didn't know how to deal with those situations. Now I do. I don't know what the difference for women is. I'm not as fat as I used to be, but that's more about wanting to live longer and making simple changes in my life. Not any sense of guilt or shame. I guess if you were handsome or had the potential to be good looking, being fat might be shameful. Being ugly it seems to balance out just fine each of them has always taken pressure off of the other. Now that I'm getting skinny I don't like my face (it's a mess, the fat cushioned out the disaster), I have to wear more clothes in the winter. My back, legs, hips, and feet thank me every day though.
    I can only say to guys, lose enough weight to just feel good every day. I was 357lbs. I'm now 269. I weigh less than I did my sophomore year in highschool. I have never felt this good. I can do so much more now. All you have to do is eat less, and move more!

    I’m 23, at the begging of September last year mid pandemic I hit a wall. I’d finally had enough of being over weight, after years of vast amounts of fad diets I decided I was going to do something proper about it, I was 323 pounds (5f 10) 9 months later I’m now 220 and still going, it’s been simple: calorie deficit, exercise and consistency. I’m not a ‘fat rights’ person at all, but what does kind of bother me is the lack of awareness of what it like to be a fat man. It’s all about women’s body’s. We struggle too, in denial fat women have the likes of tess holiday, who do men have ? Not that we need any of that healthy at any size bull shit but still. I think it speaks volumes in the differences between the way men and women are treated in today’s society.
