    Reset the ECU .
    Disconnect the battery.
    Take the pos+ and neg- wires
    Together for 30 seconds.
    Reconnect them to the batt.
    Job done.

      Have a source for this? If it works, that would be awesome. Just asking… but with no power in the system, how does holding dead wires together reset it?
      This video isn’t really an ECU reset, it’s more like ECU re-training.

      Don't think the 09 has the same throttle body and possibly different ECU. The changes escape me at the moment. This is probably a '12+ thing.
      No suggestions, sorry. Would need a lot more info about what's wrong with it.

    John, I acquired my 2018 690 about 3 weeks ago. I have left a few comments asking question in the recent past that you were gracious enough to answer. So here goes again. The guy that originally had the bike said he “tuned” the bike. I want to smooth the throttle and dial back the vibrations while making the engine run richer and cooler by getting a Power Commander from Rottweiler Performance. The problem is that I cant just put the Power Commander on if the ECM isnt in the stock configuration cause it could make the bike run terrible. So, will this trick you showed reset whatever the guy did to tune it in the ECM? I think what he did was flash the ECM. The fuel/O2 dongle would get rid of the O2 sensor and the Power Commander also does that but it causes the bike to run richer through the entire RPM band while also adding nice power gains. It also adds longevity to the motor because it runs cooler and richer. Its a good step toward protecting the engine. What are your thoughts? Would your trick reset the “flash” he did to the factory settings? Thanks man.

    • @JohnHowerton137
      @JohnHowerton137  Před 6 měsíci

      Who knows what “Tuned” really means. Not kidding, that might mean different air filter and chain lube to one guy, and a hot cam and timing change to the next. I have one buddy that it basically means pressure washed and the filter cleaned 🤣
      The flash is totally different than this. It’s a different map stuck in the box. Not sure who even offers offers that service on a stock ECU (generally illegal for road use) except maybe a dealer. I know they have a tune if you buy the full Powerparts Akrapovic exhaust system. Sorry, I’m not an authority on ECU stuff by any stretch of the imagination!
      This guy www.ktmforums.com/members/kevxtx.14810/ has a lot of experience with 690 ECUs. I have his dongle on my bike and it seems to work. Maybe you can message him through ebay or this forum. Otherwise maybe Rottweiler has some better advice.
      Good luck my man, and congrats.

      Yes they’re great machines. I’m glad I have full fledged dirtbikes too, but it’s been one of my favorite bikes I’ve ever owned and I’ve owned a lot. It’s also the longest I’ve ever owned a bike (outside my Moto Guzzi that’s been unridden for 15 or 19 years). I can depend on the 690 to do anything I need.

    Hey really like the channel. Thought I would ask if your 690 runs f'-in HOT? I have a 2021 Enduro R and I have done everything I can think of to get it to run cooler. Went to "Ice" coolant, fan works fine, switched back and forth between stook exhaust and Wings. No luck, this thing just runs between 102-110 C/ 215-230 F. When it gets around 230 I just have to shut it down and let it cool down. Really can't find much on line other than others having the same issue.

    • @JohnHowerton137
      @JohnHowerton137  Před 11 měsíci +1

      I don't have the actual temp numbers, but it runs pretty hot. There is a lower temp thermostat you can get...and the fan should also turn in at some point. It does get pretty damn hot in slow going conditions. The fan runs a lot. Most of my riding isn't slow stuff, so hasn't been an issue for me.
      Evans coolant might help too.
