AMT International Transtar 4070A kit compared to the old Ertl kit

  • I just did a comparison video showing some differences between the old and new retooled kit.
Both are great kits. AMT/Round 2 did a great job reviving this kit. It made it affordable to all builders.
It did de-value the originals some. I like others took pride in owning originals saved from my youth.
I have several of the originals. I may by a few more of these in time. I also noted some detail issues with these kits but not really a big deal. Thanks for watching and please subscribe.

The deflectors on the cab pillars were there to break up the airflow so when it was raining the water would not be held on the door glass by the air pressure and obstruct your view to the mirrors at highway speeds.

I'm so glad this kit is back and improved as it is my favorite kit as well. I bought three new ones so far and will probably get a few more before they're gone. I only opened one since I needed some parts to finish an original kit I'm almost done with, but it was missing the windshield and air cleaner for some reason ( it was sealed when I started it). The open horns and added wind deflectors are nice upgrades to an already well detailed kit. By the way, my kit only has the 2 frame rails so someone is going to be pissed when they find they only have one in theirs! Look forward to seeing what you do with yours.

I do think these are the greatest model trucks ever. That is what got me into this when I was a kid in the 70s. I was disappointed with AMT back then but got over it. Ertl really thought things through. Not sure about the extra frame rail. Probably like you said someone will get shorted. It has happened to me before. I got one with out a cab shell once. Not happy when that happened. I will build it likely this fall. I will buy a few more mainly for the decals and chrome trim to complete other I have waiting for parts. Thanks

I suppose this new AMT version drastically shoots down the collectible value of the original Ertl Transtar kit (I still have an Ertl shrink wrapped Transtar II). A lot of us figured it couldn't be re-issued. Nice comparison of the old and the new and thanks for sharing!

I am right with you on that. I guess withe 3D technology anything is possible. I have several sealed old ones that I thought would be worth a lot someday.
