  • Graco 9.5 HVLP finish pro sprayer demo.
    Check out this video, Graco Edge 2 Plus gun and variations • Graco Ultra Cordless H...
    This was an out the box first test so im simply showing it in use before I got to grips with the unit. I would normally be using the larger needle and also slightly thinning material. I used the needle and tip that was already in, this was a 3. New videos are on my channel now with it in use with different set ups.
    I had the old model Graco 9.5 turbo force and the machine was great but bulky although the gun let it down. The new Graco edge 2 plus gun is great and very easy to use with plenty of settings.
    A quick demo of me using the Graco Finish Pro 9.5 hvlp, 5 stage unit. Using Caparol Haft primer unthinned. Spraying 2 doors, then at the end i spray upside down just to show you it can be used in any direction. Great machine with alot of power, and easy to use. The smart start is a great addition to the machine. You can connect 2 x 9m hoses to have an 18m hose if you needed. It comes with a 1,2m whip hose and a 3,4 and 5 tip and needle set.

    It all improves when you use the right needle and tip size with this HVLP. Too many people try to spray it at package
    consistency with too small an orifice. Go to the # 4 0r 5 orifice to spray heavier acrylics. Turn up air to full, have fluid/fan pattern full size.
    You will move faster, get better hide. Regulate how close to the surface you spray, watch it go on to avoid too light a coat or how much orangepeel your getting. Stop tinkering spraying it like some airbrush, put it on in layers. One quick light coat at first, have good air circulation to dry out some of the water in first coat. When the acrylic appears about 60-70 % dry, then spray another
    medium coat. The water in this second coat will melt into the first and they will smooth out to give a nice finished look.
    Some paints need 10-15 % water. Spray a sample card that is glossy paper, see how much material you can spray on it, stand the card vertical, see how far you can apply material until it runs. Never spray a full door to do this test with a water reduced waterbase paint. Remember, layer these materials and see how your hide of the color works for you over a primer or previous darker base color. If you thin right, put in on right, it can work out better than trying to squeeze out too heavy a material with a small tip size.

      hugot12 thanks for the reaponce. this was just a test to try it unthinned and it worked well. i used the 4 and 5 later that week with the satin top coat. if id had air on full and fluid on full it would have been abit too misty in the room and i didnt want that. i normally dilute around 10% to 15% with my 4 stage and this 5 stage.
      nothing wrong with doing these door like that. it kept overspray to a minimum and a nice finish on the doors. if im in domestic properties again i wouldn't have air on full id move slower to let there be less overspray.
      alot of people moving from airless to hvlp i think dont like the process of thinning or playing with settings as airless is near enough point and shoot.
      but yes alot dont think to move up needles, instead dilute too much with water, i think its because standard guns come with the 1.3mm. so do you have this machine, guessing youre in the states?

    • @hugot12
      @hugot12 Před 7 lety +10

      I have the 9.5 Graco , usually to atomize the heavier acrylics you usually still need most all the air you can. But if as you say trying not to get too much overspray , a smaller fan pattern but more passes
      is of course best as you say. There always the best balance between tip size, air/fluid pressure material viscosity, type of solvent or waterborne material, temp, distance from work. You know the drill.
      I,m in Calif ,I,m 42 yrs a painting contractor, mostly spraying it all.
      I,m not going to do much production with HVLP but the new FFLP Graco tips may solve alot of problems.
      I use this setup HVLP with the remote cup and Graco Pro Comp kit
      You know seperate air supply for fluid and cup free gun setup.
      Kitchen cabinet doors ,furniture , wherever you dont want less control and need a fine finish without spits. Thats where these HVLP shine.
      If you want to add a specialty to your business try the countertop coatings that go directly over worn formica . (multispec)
      looks like granite. 80% less the cost of countertop replacements
      Go to www.hawklabs.com under countertop refinishing coatings
      Before I close my website www.countertopcoatings.net look at the samples. This is a great business if you need something new
      The HVLP turbine is all you need to apply these durable coating and its more fun than regular painting (no more baseboards)

      Great advice and your comments are spot on. whats the best color sample card for the poly waterbased. I having a tough time seeing the poly pattern, driving me nuts. And I was using it like a airbrush so I moved from a #2 to #4 and added 10 percent water and got even finish. Now Im trying to learn to put heavy coats on without drips. Seems like almost anything with GRACO HLVP 9.5 needs to be thinned. When you say air full and fluid at gun where is the machine set at?

    • @carlewa224

      EL GRINGO LOCO ! The hose it comes with is like your whip hose length, it matches the length needed to hook a strap over your shoulder for the quart cup , or hold the handle in your left hand if using your right hand to spray. I like it for finer work and having separate cup air pressure that won’t steal air from your main air hose which diminishes air volume for paint atomization. Those graco fflp airless tips are so nice, very low pressure needed. 50% less , almost no overspray. I will only use hvlp for painting bathtubs, automotive spraying and multi spec countertop coatings and furniture coatings. Hope that helps

    Hi, please tell me which device is better to buy for painting stucco, ceiling and floor skirting boards, small areas of walls and ceilings in apartments. There are two options and this is Graco Procontactor 9.5 and Fuji Mini Mite 4. Graco costs more in Russia, and Fuji is cheaper, but if you buy additional needles, a flexible hose, a system of disposable cups from 3m, then the price will be the same. Which one is better to buy? A little later I want to do restorations of wooden furniture and maybe this information will help you advise which of them to buy

      Edgar Gutierrez yes i have for the last few months just been using the 4 and 5 needle. So much better and yes you can go at some speed aswel.. i did a few demos last weem comparing speed to airless and it was interesting

    • @hugot12
      @hugot12 Před 6 lety +3

      latex extender isnt meant to be used at 10 % ,mostly we use acrylics to be thinned with water 10 %
      You should be using XIM extender a clear material. Using these wet edge extenders leave the paint more succeptable to runs as they arent like water. They were meant to leave the drying window open longer than water.
      Best to use more air at closer to package consistency. Larger tip size for heavier acrylics. Latex is for walls , not durable or smooth spraying like a fine ground acrylic resin material for trim.
      Latex sprayed over tape when removed can pull the layer off as a sheet, acrylic is not made that way, it will seperate cleanly. Layer your topcoats if using 10% water, overspray is expected especially if doing doors with a wider fan pattern. Thats why we are painters, we cover up the area for overspray anyway. If your wanting to do production with waterborne products, I suggest air assisted airless. I,m 42 years a painting contractor, I was spraying with all these sprayers before anyone knew what they were. I now spray multispec countertop granite like materials with catalyzed clearcoats of acrylic urethane. Bathtubs as well to get a porcelain finish with GRaco HVLP Procomp remote cup.
      Having the gun free of any cup is so nice

      Dariusz Skowronski hi mate thanks for watching the videos.
      well i use both. i like the Q series fujis. the Q stands for quiet so on domestic jobs its a lower hum noise so not as loud. the q4 is a 4 stage and the graco is a 5 stage. tge 4 stage is 9psi. the 5stage is 5stage but has a power adjustable dial. it has a longer hose and the new style gun.
      both great machibes and i use both. graco mainly in the workshop and q4 out on jobs. a 3 stage is around 6psi to 6.5psi generally so its a big jump in power to a 4 stage. also the graco has the smart start like in the video so shuts on and off. great feature. it also has great air flow due to the massive air filter. id always say get the best if money allows. so the new graco 9.5 but the fuji Q4 and Q5 are brilliant also. i like the fuji Gxpc gun which you can select as an option if you bought fuji. fuji sell at axminster tools if youre in the uk. and the graco from your dealers.
      so ye both great units but i ooce the graco. both need minimal thinning

    that new edge gun is suppose to be able to adjust fan width, how does that work if you are using a heavy material and want to narrow the fan ? Does it put too much material on ?
    I was thinking that might be helpful with lighter viscosity materials and a smaller tip size
    so as to put less on on more detailed surfaces where you have to spray at many angles
    to get coverage while having a smaller fan pattern . Let me know how that works out
    I own 3 of the original edge guns and know its all about tip sizes and spray distance for the surface area. Wonder why Graco would make this new gun just to please the fussy guys that dont understand all the factors when needing that extra adjustment on a new gun. I,m in Calif 42 yrs a painting contractor mostly spraying everything over those years
    I actually painted a few cars with my 9.5 Graco I have the Pro Comp kit , you know air comp seperate to supply fluid to a cupless gun. Cabinet doors , furniture , where a fine finish ultimate control is needed. The Graco FFLP tips solve almost all airless spraying problems, especially spraying doors at better speeds and a great finish.
    If you want to see where these HVLP's shine look at my countertop coating samples
    www.countertopcoatings.net before I close that website. Granite like durable coatings sprayed directly over worn formica in 4 hrs. Really fun and profitable specialty to add to your painting company. 80 % less the cost of countertop replacement.
    www.hawklabs.com where you can see countertop refinishing materials
    I would actually spray the inside of cabinets with the airless pressure closer to 1000-1,200 psi with the new FFLP tips, then spray the outside doors and frames with the HVLP .
    I'll have to tell you back in 1981 Graco came to me and another fine finish painter to setup a mock air assisted airless unit. I was using a binks gun with flat tips and a wagner gravity fed bucket diaphram sprayer with a 2 piston constant air flow compressor.
    That was mostly oil base industrial enamels, not waterborne materials.
    We had too much fluid fall off for our wider fan pattern while spraying doors with this
    Air assisted airless system. So now the Graco Finish Pro with an air pump and smart control piston unit is the result of us pioneers out there. The best unit of Graco
    is using their Mercur air driven airless pump with the G-40 gun with the internal mix
    spray nozzle and flat tips to spray acrylic paint un thinned. The G-40 with the air mixed outside with the reversable RAC X tips dries the acrylic paint on the cap too much and fouls up the spray pattern eventually. Problem is if you get flat tip plug ups , its more time consuming to clean them out. I.m looking to use my knowledge in spray equiptment to possibly be a Rep for a company called TrItech industries. American made special airless sprayers, check them out. Ok for now hope the best for you, let me know how that fan adjustment on the new gun goes before I need to buy another gun.

    I had one of them for a while, but in the end its far too slow, and a lot messier than airless. You'll find a lot more mess to clean up later using one of them. They look good at the graco show, but inside houses, just expensive, slow, messy. Airless with the FF tips you have next to no problems, and if you do its usually filter / tip or pressure related. Those HVLP's there are so many different problems you can have. Then there is the noise factor, which if you're in a customers house you dont want that thing running all day.

    • @sprayaholic
      @sprayaholic  Před 7 lety +3

      Wes T paintninjagc never had an issue with mess. you can dial the pressure right down to practically zero over spray for doing spindles etc. its quieter than older models and is great for fine finish work. if youre creatinh alot of overspray your airs on too high. perfect for use in house's where people are living as it is less messy than airless. again you just need to know how to set it up. agree its slower than airless obviously but theyre not that slow. thin the paint a little or heat it up. alot more to know when using #hvlp as its not just point and shoot

      @marc7983 Před 6 lety +12

      Not saying anyone else is wrong or right, but to me airless and hvlp are two different tools for two different types of work. I couldn’t use hvlp to spray a stack of doors, it’s just painfully slow. That’s what fine finish low pressure airless tips are for. And I wouldn’t use an airless gun even with fine finish tips to spray kitchen cabinets, that’s what an hvlp is for. I’m not sure why people try and compare them when they are completely different tools. Someone who paints for a living should really own both hvlp and airless (plus air assisted and cordless if you really are into spray work) and learn how to use them properly. If you spray as part of your living, buy the right tools, not just one gun and hope it can do everything for you. They are tools that make you money, use the tool that does the best job at the correct speed and that should make you more money, right?
      Just my opinion, use whatever you’re happy using.
