- A 48-year-old woman was arrested after yanking down a 19-year-old’s skirt at a Utah restaurant. The teen was identified as Avery Leroy, who was dining out with friends when the incident took place. She says the encounter "startled" her and she "felt violated." After the video went viral, Ida Ann Lorenzo called Utah police to explain what happened. Lorenzo was later charged with misdemeanor sexual battery and was released on bail.

Furthermore from what I observed for the past 35 years, concern over propriety was usually about immediate persons, especially their daughters.

As someone who really does have a government job, I highly doubt this woman will keep her supposed government job for much longer. Government agencies take their reputation VERY seriously, so the misdemeanor sexual battery charge she got slapped with because of this incident is a major problem in and of itself. It is possible to touch someone's clothing without touching them but this girl's skirt was so tight and short that it was pretty difficult to do that

just for argument sake. lets say this girl had below the knee skirt that the old lady grabbed without being in skin contact . I'm 99% certain that is classed as you touching the person as the skirt is part of them.
to illustrate my point more. when you yanked the skirt the skirt would have had to rubbed of the skin. so you still give the impression that some body touched you. it's this impression and sensation that you feel violated of someone touching you.
but regardless. once you have a piece of clothing and someone touches that clothing. they by law have touched you. otherwise I can go around looking for people with long skirts and grab the skirt and yank them off and say, I didn't touch you so you can't say that sexual assault

She HAS been arrested and charged - with sexual battery. And I think that's probably the right charge. Sexual battery in Utah, involves touching somebody inappropriately (and causing them alarm).
But sexual assault, requires the motive to be sexual gratification.
And obnoxious and inappropriate as this 'Karen' is, I don't believe she was trying to gain sexual gratification. She just thought she was in charge (like a typical 'Karen'), and couldn't tolerate it when somebody wouldn't obey her.
So 'Karen' tried to 'enforce' her demands, that the young woman 'cover up' more. Alcohol probably played a big part in her disinhibitation, too (though no excuse). If you want a charge to stick, the evidence has to support it. A sexual battery charge will stick far better, than a sexual assault charge.
She was charged with sexual battery, which is a misdemeanor. It's a lesser charge than SA.
She was the one who was harassing the men and women around her showing off her body. Nobody wants to see that. And if people do that's uncivilized behaviour. Hope she was humiliated and won't try that again.
She was charged appropriately. I do hope it gets plead down to misdemeanor battery down the line. She may be a good candidate for probation.
