  • Which Military branch should I join? | What is the best branch of the military to join?
Which military branch should I join, What an awesome question! To be honest there isn't a true answer to what branch you should join in the military but there is a best answer for you. BUT, that answer is only known by you. In this video I explain how I believe you should think about finding which branch you want to join by comparing what each military branch has to offer to you. It doesn't matter if you're joining the Air Force, Navy, Army, Marines, or Coast Guard. What I care about is that you make the best choice for you and your life! If you're trying to decide between the Army and Air Force, Navy and Marines, Navy and Army, or whatever. I hope that you do your research to find which branch is the best for you! Be sure to click the thumbs up button if you are reading this! Remember there is no best military branch. the best branch in the military depends on each individual person!

Air Force definitely has a better quality of life but the other branches give you much more opportunity like the Army having more job opportunities and the Navy having more travel opportunities. And if you're straddling the fence about the Marines then it's not for you- only join the Marines if your mentality is the Marines or nothing.

You hit the nail on the head when you were talking about recruiting numbers. In the four years I was in high school, we had the Army and Marines come at LEAST twice a year, sometimes more. The Coast Guard came two times total, and the Navy came one time in all four years. Air Force never came to my school, but when you looked at the "Seniors Enlisting in the Military" in the yearbook, it was overwhelmingly Air Force and Army, a decent amount of Navy, a Marine or two, and the rare Coast Guard.

Other people may point out something you have not thought about but in the end it's YOU WHO DECIDES.
Another thing, decide for yourself and never say «why did I listen to you».

Kyle as an Air Force recruiter, my entire DEP is familiar with your videos. I watch them occasionally to see what my future Airman are watching.
In 2011 the Air Force was downsizing. Hence why it took you so long to join. Currently the Air Force is growing. Typically an applicant will ship to BMT three months after initial contact. There are a lot of factors that can effect your ship date, i.e. ASVAB score, job selection, submitting moral/financial waivers, if needed. Personally I have send recruits to BMT within a month of initially meeting them.

It's definitely easier to switch careers in the Army. During one 6 year enlistment, it's not uncommon to see a person switch MOS once. I met someone who switched twice during one enlistment, but that's far less common. It's also way easier to get promoted in the Army. You basically just have to not be a shitbag and put in your time.

I'm still struggling to decide between Marines and Air Force. I've been talking to my Marine recruiter lately. But my mother wants and thinks the Air Force is best for me. And my dad once told me: "Son, don't be a Jarhead... Join the Navy." I said "Why?" He said: "Because they're more 'tactical'." I told him I'm not sure about that.. My parents want the best for me, seeing I'm the only child in the family. I'm still studying as a Junior and in my 2nd semester in HS. So, I don't know yet. Sometimes I feel being a Jarhead suits me and an Airman too. I dunno though. Wish me luck!

As far as cross training in the army, once you enlist in a certain MOS, you have to complete the term for that job. Unless you go SF or something. At times of reenlistment, they will sometimes offer you an option to reclass, or change to a different MOS. It's up to your retention NCO to supply you that list of jobs.
That being said, it's easier at E4 or below. E5 it's possible, by E6 you're normally SOL at that point.

Good video. My question is what is MEP's ? And why does it take so long to get to Air Force boot camp? As for me i joined the Marines back in 75. I signed my enlistment papers and was at MCRD Parris Island 48 hours later. Different times and a different world back then.. My brother retired with 22 years in the Air Force and stayed active reserve. As for me after 4 years active in the Marines as a grunt and i got thee f&$k out of there. But my advice to anyone joining make sure this is what you want to do. It's not a game you can walk away from. It's real. And as for life in the Marines it all depends on your MOS. If you're in a combat MOS it sucks. You can be killed or messed up for the rest of your life No other way to put it. But i' m speaking from my time 42 years ago and the Marines are most likely still the same way today. And one more thing, "God bless the A-10"...

Excellent information for new recruits. It's the specific mission of each military branch that dictates the quality of life, to put it bluntly, recruits will encounter. My three brothers and I all enlisted in the military. Accept for me my brothers started out in the Army or the Marines and left that branch for the Air Force. I enlisted in the Air Force six weeks out of high school. We all retire after more than 20 years to start second careers with white-collar job skills we learned in the Air Force and/or a college degrees in hand. I don't think you get that opportunity too often in the other branches like you do in the Air Force. By the way, all three of my children are currently serving in the Air Force and each has already earned a college degree.

the advice i give is usually "one of the services is going to be more appealing, because one of them is going to be more appealing, and only you're going to know why, and not really know why. one is just going to be cooler than the others, because it's cooler than the other, and everything else will just be a compromise".
for me it was army all the way, but the idea or air force was put in my head because they would eaisly except me with a tattoo on my finger.
i ended up getting a waiver for the tattoo because i chose a priority job in army.
and as for me waiting that long time to get in, we have a different joining process in Australia to you by the sounds of it. my first email to narchin day was 13months (because of the finger tattoo) where as someone else in my platoon at kapooka had 3 weeks, not as long as you, but still a very long 13 months.

The Army does a good job of making it work for you and makes sure you get the best MOS for you as a person. Plus I am not mechanically inclined and that's kinda what the Air Force is but I am medically inclined so the Army is my own personal way to go! I qualify for almost all of the categories of jobs with the Army and I did actually qualify for a lot of Air Force jobs but at the moment they want Mechanical or Special Forces and that's just not worth being miserable over...
