The CX9 makes sense in terms of value, reliability, technology and comfort.
LJ It makes sense in value but in all over the other regards you mentioned the Audi is as good or better but then it should be too, don't get me wrong, I'd be happy to drive the Mazda, they've done a good job with the CX9 but the Audi is in a more luxury market segment an it shows
NZsarge1 technology and comfort are actually extremely similar between these two. Interior quality as well. For Audi you'd practically be paying for a stronger engine, and undoubtably a more recognizable brand name. Pretty much.

Josh The dude There much more going on in the Audi than might seem so on face value, there's a higher degree of engineering right down to the smallest details, if you spend a decent amount of time in any Audi these days you'll come to appreciate all the small touches along with all bigger more obvious ones.

the rear of the cx-9 does have 2 high power charging ports in the arm rest, full climate controls. plus when compared to Audi quattro which is a permanent AWD system, the cx-9 is a one of a kind predictable AWD, The turbo system in the cx-9 is also one of a kind and brand new design that puts out 310 ft lbs of torque at 2000 RPM, for reality driving, its all you need.
The Mazda is friggin' cool looking! Great fuel economy with a fast torque engine. Even Dads would look good driving this.
Forget price...actually a very unbiased review from a a Mazda Dealer. Excellent job! We just got an Audi Q7 premium + optioned out to max. Unfortunately, Bill Gates will have to show me how to "use" the car. My Wife loves it. V6 makes a huge difference....I would think the Mazda v. Volvo would be closer to apples to apples. Audi is introducing a 2.0 4 cylinder Q7 in the Spring. Nevertheless, this was an excellent video & Mazda looks terrific & the value prop on it probably blows any competitor away.

The 2016 CX9 is really difficult to compete with in terms of quality/styling for the price. Mazda really knocked it out of the park with that one. It's not perfect, but if it's any indication of where they are going, it's only so long before their cars start demanding a higher price.
Weird comparison but tbh, the CX-9 Looks way better. This gen's Q7 looks so bad imo.

You are right. If it were possible to pile a load of cow excrement high enough slap on 4 wheels and an Audi badge some folks would still think it's better.
Before you go running your mouth about the Audi being better you should go and sit in the range topping CX 9. It's very nice and I wouldn't waste money on a German shitbox.
If I had to drive the Mazda I wouldn't be mad about it but I'd choose the Q7
I have to rescind my previous statement, I drove a CX9 the other day and it pissed me off, poor design meant the sides of my knees were constantly in contact with hard parts on the door and centre console which quickly became uncomfortable, that and it felt quite claustrophobic. The Audi is more comfortable and it feels positively cavernous inside in comparison

I drove both and I like Mazda much more than Audi, but if I had money for Audi, I would buy it anyway. It's all about your feelings. You drive Mazda and still thinking that some day your car will be Audi. Just because of the name of it. But I still have some years ahead and I would prefer Mazda to get pretty much the same quality and options for less money. And I love the torque of it's 4 cyl. It's fun! After all, who cares about the details under the hood. It just runs in any situation.

I have a 2009 Mazda6 with over 160,000 miles on it. I have been in about three car accidents with it and it still runs perfectly fine. I have not had to do any repairs at all(besides body work). I would gladly buy another Mazda. I have a 2016 Mazda CX5 as well and i get compliments on it almost everyday.
The CX-9 has improved drastically and should do well in the 3 row segment. It will fit most people's needs but for me I would rather have a Sorento. Similarly priced, just as equipped, best warranty and better styling (subjective). Oh and u still get that lovely panoramic sunroof in the Sorento..
Forrest Jones better than sorento but if cannot beat pilot or highlander or even maybe even explorer. Signature model doesn't even have rear heated seats or panoramic sunroof. Also you'll have to use premium fuel to get the 250hp. The third two is practically useless. It's a good try tho. The materials used in cx9 are really nice and leather looks decent.
I completely disagree about Kia quality. Completely disagree. We have owned 3 and they have been fantastic cars. Have a '15 Optima now with 45K on it. We've had a 1st Gen Sorento and a Rio for my lil sis. Longer warranty means they'll cover it for longer...how is that a bad thing? The Optima would already be out of warranty with just about any other mainstream manufacturer. Resale value..u have a point, but Kia isn't alone there.
I am a big fan of Kia and Huyndai. I owned several Kias and Huyndais (still own Sonata) and can say only good things about their quality and reliability. That said, I got CX9 signature, just because it is so much more fun to drive than Santa Fe or Sorento.
I think kias and hyundais are ok cars, with some issues on materials and construction, still behind mazda. I think mazda is the middle step between econo segment and entry level luxory cars (bmw, audi, mercedes, lexus and acura intro series), the problem is that from a mazda to a bimmer (lets say a 2.5 mazda to a 2.5 bimmer) there are more than 20k bucks, and thats a lot on todays economy, but from a 2.5 kia to a 2.5 mazda prices are very very close, so why stay into korean inferior craftmanship, materials and design if you can own something better for quite the same price?. About mazda cx 9 and audi q series, well, very different market segments, but again, i believe many ex audi owners would not matter goimg a couple of stairs down and saving serious money instead.

Mazda, poors man bmw. Actually i own a mazda 3 grand touring 2016, i wanted a bmw but dont want to spend 20k more (ok, i cant) and the insurance was to high on the bimmer, apart from the service cost. The mazda if more than ok for me.
samuraifugitivo Our similarly equipped CX-9 at 1.9 apr plus some dealer options came up to $53,xxx. Hardly a poor person's car. Maybe a Mazda 3.

my previous car, buyed 3 years ago, was a BMW Series 1 hatchback (not sales in Usa) 2.0 diesel, same options cost 36.000 euro....
the price difference between Mazda and Audi Bmw and Mercedes is very small in Europe...

Yes if you have a pocket full of cash no doubt you'll buy an Audi not just for the badge but if you just want a value for money a bit of luxury and want to enjoy good driving with your kids, definitely Mazda is the right answer. I like the interior of the Audi it's more elegant but it cost a lot but the exterior design I prefer the Mazda it looks gorgeous.

the cx9 looks nice but its big, heavy and under power.
have u guys all noticed that once a mazda gets used past the 3 year mark, it just doenst look that good anymore, inside usually falls apart. compared that to audi, after 10 years the car still looks beautiful, inside is all in one piece. now that's the difference.

Having driven one, it can't effectively put power to the pavement without the front tires squealing! AWD is slow to kick in and cabin noise is quite loud!
Elisha Jesudason you must be talking about the Audi because we own the signature shown here with nearly 2000 miles and no squealing tires or loud cabin. Ours also cost $53k.

Audi Q7 is a hideous obese looking thing. the shape has no cohesive design. it's just lacking and for you to mention the Bentayga is actually a criticism. in this segment, the car has to look great foremost, then be comfortable, spacious etc. i'd go for a Range Rover

No, just no. CX9 is for when you can't afford the Audi, BMW or Mercedes. The CX9 has real competitors to go against, some of which may even be better. So try and top that group first and then come for the luxury segment. Until then let's not pretend it's close, because it isn't.

Josh The dude It's not just about brand name. The quality is not the same, there is no comparison with these two. Just for example the VW version which is the Touareg is still miles better than the CX-9 in quality and equipment.

The Stulla King The Stulla King if you've sat inside a CX-9, you'd realize how well equipped it is, and the materials used for the interior are also really really good. You can tell cheap materials right off the bat when sitting inside the cabin. Audi's interior is always top-notch, so that's a no brainer. But Mazda actually hit the bulls eye with the CX, enough to compete with the Q within the interior design/quality aspect. Branding is a whole different story, can't compare them. Design & quality, is a much closer margin.

This comparison is pointless. You can compare the Mazda CX-09 with the Dodge Durango.
Some of the CX09 shortcomings are: an unrefined 4 cylinder engine (compared to 4 cylinder engine in Volvo XC90), poor infotainment system, and inexplicable large centre console.
Actually the infotainment system is very nice. I have the 2016 CX-5 and it's very pleasant and easy to use.
Rida Al Osman When I got into the Mazda my knees were immediately irritated by hard contact points which quickly became uncomfortable, a deal breaker on this alone, I only had a shortish drive and I was already fed up with those hard point. Disappointing piece of design in what is other a pretty nice vehicle

I'll take the Dodge Durango over both of these. For the price, the Durango is bigger, the 3rd row seating has PLENTY of room, it's luxurious and it's great on gas. This car has been nothing but reliable to me, love our Durango! Btw, there's no way I'm paying that much on a 4-cylinder vehicle, hell no!
