The subject this session is about Unplated Coins. The Lincoln Cent has a makeup of copper and zinc, and they still do. Only some things have been switched around by the US Gov. Mint. TO save money the mint swapped the amount of metal. Pennies used to be made mostly of Copper and a little Zinc. Now it is turned around and pennies are made mostly of Zinc and a little Copper, but a mint error occured and some pennies get minted without the copper plating in the minting process. Some collectors like these coins and collect them. I am one of those collectors who wanted one. I have 2 and one is slabbed and the other raw in a flip. The grade on this coin is MS-64 and that is a good grade. It is not a high grade, but it is a good grade and that is what I wanted. A slabbed coin with a good grade. Plus I also still have a raw coin too.

I had trouble getting my sound on at the start, and I saw the first coin before you I heard Unplated Planchett. When I saw the penny I thought it was a steel penny from the WWII era. I didn't realize that's how pennies were finished with a coating of zinc or whatever they use now. I know you talked about that coating in an earlier video, but I though the coating was a thin see through sealant. Interesting to learn that about our friend the penny.

Hello again Stax! The 2 coins I showed in the video were Zinc pennies without the Copper coating. The transition took place in 1983 from a Copper penny to a Zinc penny. The composition of the penny today is 97.5 Zinc and 2.5 Copper. I added these 2 unplated/ 1 slabbed and the other unslabbed to my collection as examples of pennies without the Copper coating.
