- With 2023 almost here it looks like one publisher is finally set to reveal a game that's been a long time coming. Nintendo is set to have one of the biggest releases in all of gaming next year with Zelda, but some recent rumblings could be pointing to a slower year overall for other major releases.

We’ve been hearing rumors of a remake of Metroid Prime 1 since 2019. Don’t expect anything from that franchise old or new this year
It's already for pre-order on Amazon
FFS, how people still insisting this exists? These leakers were pushing that it was coming in November and even now, still insist that exists "it's just that Nintendo doesn't want to release."
I got mine
@Eric Raymond my man you got scammed. The only official listing are for prime 4 (which has been up since 2017) and dread
Don't forget that the "insiders" already moved the goalpost from Metroid Prime trilogy to only Metroid Prime 1 in the meantime. It's the same BS as with the Zelda remasters or Game Boy games for NSO, if you predict the same stuff long enough, eventually, you're probably going to be right.
A tears of the kingdom expansion could slot in as a holiday/end of year release. Not really a major release but it would juice sales
I could see them maybe announcing dlc at the game awards just like in 2017 tbh
Pokémon DLC is a given as well
@@okapi_q That i can see coming out like in the summer
Xeno 3 expansion drops late 2023 as well, which is basically a brand new game and will have it's own physical release.
@@TimelessSnake first half of the dlc in summer and second half in fall like sword and shield
I've had a few toxic relationships in my life and dragon quest localization is definitely towards the top
If Metal Gear Solid 4 ever gets remade, Psycho Mantis will need a new reaction to the DualSense controller.
Imagine instead of just rumble he uses the haptics to play death sound from mgs1 or something like that.
You know why Sonic is having such a renaissance? The fact that they gave Frontiers more time in the oven is undoubtedly a huge factor. I really wish Pokemon would follow suit and start prioritizing quality over quantity.
More like all of their games are bad and sonic fans are in denial so when a mediocre game comes out with some serious amateur design elements, the fans explode.
When you expect trash that you called gold, then something that’s just kinda meh may as well be a pure diamond.
Still doesn’t make it a good game or explain the incredibly “first time developer” elements to that game. Looks like some indie devs unity game
@@MysteriousStranger50 you're just a hater. A. not every Sonic game has been bad (ever hear of Sonic Mania? Sonic Generations?) and B. Frontiers is fun. Is it a 10/10 masterpiece? Nah but it was still fun and the sales reflect that
Are you serious ? Like are you serious . Sonic is literally the dictionary definition for undercooked glitchy jank. We accept jank as core part of experience at this point
Once again the best way to start the day and end the work week….Spawn Wave gaming news…just got my new Steam Deck and playing the whole long weekend!!
Sounds like a good weekend. I’m deep into my PS1 catalog on my Deck right now. Currently playing Legend of Legaia (for like the 75th time lol)
You should have went with the GPD Win 4 is beyond better than that lame Steam Deck.
it’s not a major release, but i would love to see advance wars come out after tears of the kingdom, or even just a shadow drop. i just want to try these games out soon, they looked fantastic!
The rumours making the rounds is the game is delayed in response to the war in Ukraine
I think they're trying to going to LoZ: TotK as a means to extend how long the can sell the switch. If they started talking about new hardware before the next Zelda is out it could hurt sales of all software as people would be just waiting for the next one to come out. As Zelda is coming out in may I wouldn't expect talk of a new system until at least TGS so that Zelda could have some time to breathe on the market
Good take because now we have leaks of a TotK OLED
“Long awaited”
With all the love revengance has received (both old and recent) and the fact that it left on a cliffhanger this gives me slight hope although i know its not going to be
Dragon Quest 10 Offline was released about two months ago in Japan. I'm really hoping that's what's going to be translated and released in the US. I've been seriously thinking of just getting it in Japanese and fumbling through.
It wont be translated. I own it on steam. The 2023 update was for those who bought deluxe version. It includes extra content. Like dq 2.5 was basic. 3.0 after new content.
I got it and it’s awesome. But without knowing any japanese might not be too enjoyable.
I’d be surprised if they don’t release the offline version in the west since it’s basically just another classic main line dq jrpg with chibi graphics.
@@Lock2002ful I think enix ips cant launch. Since its offices failed in USA in 90s or 2000. Hence most nes snes ips not left Japan. But a smart phone can translate it. Same for pc software.
@@sagepirotess6312
What are you talking about?
SQE released a ton of games this year alone worldwide.
@@sagepirotess6312 How did you get it on Steam? I didn't see it there.
I think the approach Konami is taking that is being a Disney and giving licenses to their IPS to individual developers for them to make is going to most likely work for them and I hope eventually they return to the games market under a new direction and start making brand new intellectual properties as they have the talent to do so...
About that SEGA things, yeah, for one example, I'd love to see a port of Condemned: Criminal Origins on the Switch, among some of their other titles of course. And branch out from Digital Copies only, also include the option of physical copies; the entire game(s) being completely on the cartridge.
Happy New Year to you and your fam, thanks for be consistent and organized
Would love a sequal to mario odyssey announced in 2023...with a end of year release!
That’d be sweet!
I am shocked they didn't try real DLC at least
Galaxy 3 would be better
@@novustalks7525
I’d be happy with a Galaxy 2 port first tbh. xD
@@Lock2002ful hopefully lol
You always have a good variety of video game news
ok tico
Hey dude! Great job on news wave this year!
Happy New Year Spawn Wave
Would love a Mario + Donkey Kong 2.5D platformer crossover, to capitalize on the Mario movie and bring something fresh to both franchises
I’ve had game pass ultimate for like a year and I don’t even bother checking gold games anymore with the exception of like one game months ago
Pikmin gets another entry and it already got a switch port of 3. Meanwhile F-Zero hasnt had a new entry since the gamecube, not even a port of GX or an emulator wrapped release of it on switch. Not to mention Mario Kart 8 is coming up on it's 9th anniversary in May (but at least Mario Kart 8 deluxe has been getting "new" content).
You know what'd be really cool. If they dropped F-Zero 64 on the emulator and added the DD support for it since I know a lot of people actually enjoyed it.
Pikmin is Miyamoto's pet project. F-Zero, aside from the fact that every entry in the series sold worse than the last one, doesn't have any higher-up at Nintendo championing the franchise.
I love Iris Fall! It's a very interesting puzzle adventure with a beautiful style. I actually paid more than 20 euros for a physical copy on PS4.
It's a dark style puzzle adventure right bud?
For at least the last 3 years I've heard the same two things said about Nintendo "The hardware is too outdated now so a Switch pro has to come out!" and "Nintendo has no games coming out next year!" And they've never been true. Are people just going to keep saying these things until they're eventually true? Because here we go again.
A Mario baseball game seems very likely for 2023. Seems like a no brainier rumor at least.
I want a Burning Rangers Remake. Or most Saturn hidden gems.
I almost forgot about that game. That would be amazing
Here at work and the first thing that popped up in my head to get the day started was news wave let’s go!!! Thanks for a great 2022 John!

Sephiroth amiibo pre-orders seem to already be sold out here in the UK. Anybody in other regions noticed this over there?
Not at all, but I'm from the UK too and I'm not too surprised to see it honestly.
In general Amiibo releases have been getting scarcer and scarcer and when you see one as badass looking as Sephiroth I sort assumed it might happen. I think the same thing happened with Joker as well didn't it?
I would like the original Metal Gear to get a remaster, I think it would be interesting to say the least
How about a remake
The last Newswave video of the year. Thanks for all the gaming news SpawnWave. I'll tune in for all of next year. To anyone who sees this comment have a lovely rest of 2022.
4:31 They're just gonna release a new tv in the shape of glasses!
For the billionth time, Nintendo didn't strike the video CZcams's algorithm struck the video for them. Nintendo then did a Fair Use review and decided not to pursue it. This is how CZcams works and how it has worked for more than a decade.
Your content is my first go to for everything video games. Always delivering great news and speculation. P.S. the glow up was inspiring.
Always waiting for 8am to come.
Konami, here is the pitch: It's Contra, but it's Fall Guys. MMO Contra, all the classic stages, new stages, user stage editor/creator, all the sprites from all the classic games, mix & match. Jump in with up to 100 people at a time, stages randomly generated, last man standing wins. Imagine the waterfall stage but you WANT to kill your friends? Mayhem & hilarity. We do not need 3d Contras with Pandas & lootboxes. Konami won't do it but we can dream.
I would love it if dragon quest X would get released outside of Japan and have it in English so I can continue playing the Japanese version o got lost in dragon quest I used to hate but when they released dragon quest heroes 1-2 I loved dragon quest and gave dragon quest X1 one more chance it didn’t fail that’s why I bought dragon quest X now I’m still waiting for dragon quest 12
DQX offline is also awesome. If you understand japanese to a certain degree completely worth it but I’d be surprised if they don’t release it in the west.
Especially since they released DQ treasures worldwide at the same time.
That's quite the run-on sentence lol
5:01 Perhaps there could be some nice 3rd party AAA ports? Maybe more Assassin's Creed, or PS3 era Farcry, Fallout, Oblivion, Call Of Duty, or Red Dead Redemption ports? maybe?
I played the demo of the offline Dragon Quest X. My Japanese is still isn't great but I enjoyed it and I think I'm going to buy the full game sometime
Zelda and Pikmin 4 are enough for me on the Switch!
4:46 we definitely are getting ahead of ourselves. I'm sure there'll be a Direct in January or February. They still gotta show off more Zelda gameplay, and they may finally lower the price of the hardware - Nintendo would be insane not to at this point.
Where’s that rumored Donkey Kong game?
StarFox?
Mario movie game adaptation?
And then of course Pikmin 4 and Metroid Prime 4.
All I know is whenever Nintendo releases whatever their new console is, it better have backwards compatibility with the switch.
This drought is when they release the Zelda WW/TP doublepack
Random unlikely thought, TotK doesn't mean mourning, but rips (tears/tearing/torn) in Hyrule's history. Same spelling, different vowel sound. Hyrule's history, gaps, fractured timeline, etc. are certainly fragmented enough to have giant tears in their own records. Perhaps this game pieces it back together a bit.
The Japanese title writes it as tiazu, so crying tears.
Ah, well. Nevermind 👍
Metroid Prime 4 is likely not considered a "major release" in that "major release" implies a $10+ million seller (Splatoon, Zelda, Mario, Animal Crossing).
Except for Zelda and Metroid prime nintendo usually reveals games really close to their release dates. FE feels like it just got announced and it''s about to release, Kirby, Metroid dread was kind of the same so I wouldn't be surprise if we got a huge announcement around April or E3 for their holiday line up. maybe including the next gen system... I can see a new remake for Starfox or new Pikmin, Luigi's Mansion 4, Paper Mario, even SM Odyssey 2 as a Switch/Switch 2 cross gen as they do for Zelda or something in the same random unexpected titles being announced out of nowhere.
Im 23 and my only exposure to metal gear had been meme clips of the senator and liquid snake.
Getting a lot out of GamePass Ultimate and Playstation Plus Extra. Both are great deals!
See u next year!
Been eyeing the wonder boy the dragons trap for a while now and want to play it on my switch... but it never gets a discount on pal region. Every single good game has a discount on NA region.
Year 6 selling 5 million consoles a year is crazy to me. 🤯🤯
I assure you, Nintendo will publish at least 10 games next year. It will be fine.
So like basically every year. =P
@@NuiYabuko yes, basically taking the average. Could be more, could be less. It was significantly more this year so actually next year could be less and still be fine because everyone has insane backlog from this year.
I'm not gonna get excited about Metal Gear rumors anymore. We've had two of them this year and nothing happened. The disappointment was too real. If it happens, I will be beyond excited. But I'm not expecting it anymore.
I keep my hopes very low when it comes to Konami.
I really would like to see if nothing else a MGS remake and then the HD collection get re-released somehow.
I find the best policy is to not get excited about anything related to Konami. The upcoming Silent Hill games will be a litmus test on whether they can be trusted. If they turn out good, then maybe it is fair to be excited about new MGS games. If they turn out to be trash, then we'll just have a repeat of Metal Gear Survive if they touch the MGS franchise again.
A long awaited thing is set to not be revealed but it gets us clicks
At this point it's basically 100% guaranteed that MP4 is a Switch 2 launch title.
Which is fine by me I never wanted to play MP4 on the 2017 Switch processing limitations.
Awesome to hear about DKYG winning, gotta protect that crew at all costs they're unmatched
Yea I just got a ps5 for Christmas last night 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯 they don't have words to convey my level of deep appreciation 🙏🙏🙏
Got me god of war bundle, extra player 2 black controller, miles morales on disk, and resident evil village
If I get to only buy one game all year, it's gonna be tears of the kingdom. I do not care whatever else is announced, released, or shadow dropped. My money is reserved for Zelda
5:08
... Veering of into cb there...
I used to think that these xbox one games with gold were just like the 360 games they used to give, in a way that you could play it without an active membership, but boy what a 💩 surprise when I wasnt able to play gears 5 after my gamepass(live gold) membership ended
Xenoblade is always a big release for me
I don't have any hope held for DQ10. I would love to play it, being stateside and obsessed with RPGs, but they announced it being released on Wii back in 2012 in Game informer, right beside Ni No Kuni and the release of the Wii U, but we have yet to see it. It'll be as elusive as a Kingdom Hearts canon compilation coming native to Switch.
Well we'll see with the next Nintendo Direct. Also don't forget Metroid Prime 4. Retro Studios is working hard on the title. It could be a Switch title or cross gen I have no idea. But I am just coming in with an open mind with no expectations and enjoying the present.
Expect Prime 4 to continue to be vaporware for the next decade until everyone just forgets about it altogether (just like Nintendo already has).
@@N.i.E.M.O this^.
@@N.i.E.M.O I'm pretty cynical about when it's gonna come out but it's hardly done for. Because of the development reset they haven't actually been working on it for 5 years but 3. Imo I think they'll show something of it next year
Sega giving that push for other ips? Hell no. They do have the Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi free to play coming
Yes, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe just keeps on selling...but you just glossed over the fact it topped 5 Million!! That's impressive!
Ehhh, I don't know. Nintendo keeps releases kind of close to the chest. Us knowing about Tears of The Kingdom is really unusual because Nintendo usually announces titles that launch within a years period. I would expect a summer direct to set it all up.
i think i hear shredder's revenge from this channel more than Switch pro.
March release dates for consoles is a big brain move.
I think it's highly likely that the next Nintendo hybrid console would be backwards compatible but only digitally unless their cartridges would be exactly the same. Have a great weekend man, It's been a year. Hats off to the team!
No way. As well as the Switch has sold, they’re not leaving all the MILLIONS of Switch physical games out in the cold. The new console will have a slot for Switch physical games.
@@holleringsmith3837 I hope so too man
Konami would definitely make waves if they just spent time going back and making HD collections of their franchises. So many titles are just locked to older consoles and price gated behind ownership.
I hope we get a Castlevania DS collection from Konami.
There are 3 rules to tell if a first party nintendo title is "major" or not:
1. Is it Mario?
2. Is it Zelda?
3. Is it Mario or Zelda Adjacent (smash bros, mario kart, Rabbids ect)?
If none of thee above applies, it's a flop. Only exception to the rule is a 3D donkey kong.
Animal Crossing? Splatoon?
@@NuiYabuko Flop

A new, open world Donkey Kong country would sell like hotcakes.
Pikmin would make a great VR title.
The top 10 selling games in an entire country is on your platform with six of those being from your very company. The top hardware is yours. So of course if I was Nintendo I would throw it all away to make a new system to appease some journalist and CZcamsrs.
They're working on something anyway, complaining or whining on the internet won't make it release sooner.
DIdn't Sakurai hint at Kid Icarus Uprising getting a Switch Port? Maybe not a sales juggernaut but that game was a critical darling and has a strong fan base.
If they remake MGS1, I would imagine that Sony would push super hard to put all three on Playstation Extra.
I played Iris fall at E3 years ago. From what i remember it was a great unique looking puzzle game. Just because its unheard of doesnt mean its a bad game. Check it out! Its free!
Metroid fans literally dying out here waiting for prime 4 lol
It's the BOTW of the Switch generation. Announced at the start of a console generation, Zelda Wii U in 2014 and Prime 4 in the 3rd month of the Switch's lifespan (holy shit it's been so long) to potentially being a cross gen title with a new system someday.
At least it's coming though, was announced a decade after Prime 3, with nearly a decade of development till release (7 years if it drops in 2024). Dread made the wait a lot less painful though for me.
We’ll probably get a code name for the next system for Nintendo next year. With a release in maybe late 2024. the Wii was revealed as the revolution in 2004, two years before release, and the switch was revealed as the nx in 2015, two years before release. I don’t think they’ll do two years because the switch did so well they wouldn’t want to lose out too much on sales. With the GameCube and Wii U, both consoles were duds so they didn’t lose much by revealing it when they did
I'm waiting for people to start accepting the fact that the Switch successor will NOT be a 4k system if it is a handheld. You need to start preparing yourself now.
I'm hoping for a powerful home console with backwards compatible with switch games. That would be perfect.
People basing their expectations on Xbox and Playstation, are bound to be disappointed.
@@kahp1072 probably. Iv been greatly disappointed with Nintendo for a while now. So I'm just wishing. I'm not really expecting anything. I'm very much done with Nintendo. They dug themselves into deep hole...
If Konami has any sense, they'll also do a proper re-release and/or remaster of Metal Gear Rising. That game has seen a huge rise in popularity in the past couple years, mostly thanks to memes and its incredible soundtrack. Now would be the perfect time for them to capitalize on that.
2d Mario will probably come out before Zelda to be close to the movie in April. After Zelda Nintendo can just pad out the year with Mario Kart dlc, Pokemon dlc, and probably Zelda dlc as well.
MP4 and mario kart 9 would be a great launch for the next system in 2024. A great showcase of the visuals and also a push for NSOEP. Have prime remakes throughout 2023 in leadup.
@@Wave_Spawn nice try but the real guy is spawn wave.
I do believe 2023 will be the "swan song" year for Switch as Nintendos only platform on the market before going next gen in early 2024 it just makes sense
I wouldn't be surprised by this point of internally Metroid Prime 4 has moved to a planned release on the next gen hardware.
Odd that Minecraft is always in the Japanese sale chart all these years later
There will totally be a new mario game around the time of the movie release.
Mario the Movie: the Game, featuring digitized sprites to finally compete with Mortal Kombat.
Something with Mario(game) is almost for sure in 2023.
You laugh at Metal AC!D 2 but I seriously want a new game in that series. It was great at the time and really want it on the Switch especially since card based RPGs are pretty big now.
I prefer a release for Nintendo‘s hardware in March, because then people who have a hard time getting it might have an easier time getting it because of no holiday rush. 18:33
WHERE TF IS ADVANCE WARS NINTENDO?! Also MGS 1 needs a remake the most imo
You said Dragon Quest 10 and my undivided attention is yours.
12:58 yes yes yes yes 👏🏽
The last news wave video of 2022...
I'm sad 😔
I enjoy when you tell it to people straight regarding franchises like Pikimin.
I think Metroid Prime 4 will be exclusive to Nintendos next console, and made from the ground up to show off what the console can do.
Just throwing stuff out there, what about Mario odyssey 2? Heard something a bit ago then not much, maybe it's on the low to keep the second half of 2023 with something still to come and still to be awaited for
That would be amazing I love Odyssey but honestly speaking I really don't see it getting a sequel sadly. Not because the game isn't fantastic but more because the game very much felt like a celebration style game, one to celebrate Mario's career with moments like the New Donk Festival and the games incredible soundtrack. Naturally I'd love to be proven wrong on that but I think the next 3D mario game if we get one will be some sort of holiday release or Switch 2 launch.
I got my first Switch from my wife for Christmas this year. She got me the white OLED one. I'm loving it so much. Breath of the Wild is so much fun. I'm thinking it might be better than OoT, that's my favorite all time game.
You're all wrong, it's Shattered Soldier 2.
Technically PS3 is the only platform you can play the entire metal gear series in 1 place short of emulation on a high end PC
