This Is EXACTLY What Nintendo Needed

- Metroid Prime Remastered is now out digitally for the Nintendo Switch and while I have a lot of fond memories of the game from the early 2000s, this version is significantly upgraded looking more like a remake. With the state of the Metroid Prime franchise in general, this is exactly what Nintendo and Retro Studios needed.

I’m so glad to see a anticipated game come out without a controversy of issues and instead a work of love
I've been having the Metroid communities I'm in bitch about it all day the last 3 days lol
Literally the only things to critique about this remaster are 1. Certain objects are no longer reflective. 2. A couple of bugs from the original weren't fixed, like the Ice Shriekbats disappearing forever after you progress to a certain point. 3. They seem to have used version 1.1 as a basis, so a good chunk of sequence breaking techniques from the original release don't work. Those are the only things to nitpick that I can tell. Everything else is about as good as it could be.
@@JacobNintendoNerd99 Metroid Other M, maybe next ? 😏

@AstroBlaster16 I've got a feeling they're redoing all of them. You don't put this much effort into a single remaster.

This is my first time ever fully playing through this game, and wow what an amazing way to do so. Retro Studios and their support team did an amazing job on this Remaster, and I’m so thankful I get to play it in such a beautiful state.
If this was a way for Retro to see if they still had what it takes to work on this series again than I’d say they passed with flying colors!
How so? The game is was already there. It's a graphical makeover (a massive one yes) with a new control scheme put into it.
@@thedarkside3899 that’s the thing, if they put the game online with no changes only a handful of people would probably play it because of nostalgia. Nintendo would be leaving a huge amount of money on the table if they did that. And Retro hasn’t touched Metroid since 2007. They most likely saw what Bandai had done with 4 and wanted to make sure their skills were still up to snuff before going forward.
QUIERO MOVER EL BOTE, QUIERO MOVER EL BOTE,, QUIERO MOVER EL BOTE, LE GUSTAAAAA! MUUUUEEEEEEVVEEEE!!!
@@thedarkside3899 I get what you're saying. It doesn't demonstrate everything, but it at least shows the quality of execution on the things people assume are simple to do... yet many other studios manage to mess up or just do the minimum. No matter how easy or simple things can be conceptually, quality is a very different matter.
We do need to keep expectations in check in terms of the game design, story and new gameplay for MP4, but this is a great start for us to know they are keeping a certain level of quality that is representative of the old Retro Studios.
@@DanX_27 it still counts. The kind of stuff they had to do, to make all the changes they did to this game, they had to really get into the weeds of the code as well. So they really know this pretty well , in and out, with this remaster. They will indeed, be on top of what is working and how it’s working.
The fact this is running on an upgraded Gamecube engine is nothing short of incredible.
I'd say its how well the game engine built and its versitility. Just look at Doom '93 it has more ports than any game i know and it runs on the same engine it did when it was on DOS (old text based OS before windows) on most of those ports.
It does make me wonder if Metriod Prime 4 will use a heavily modified version of the engine from the remaster to retain that look and feel of the trilogy.

Looking at the GameCube graphics vs the remastered version it honestly reminds me of Halo CE anniversary graphic wise. Both looked so revolutionary back in the day but the upgraded versions are night and day and it shows the love developers had for these games. I can't wait to see what else Retro Studios has in store for us
Though theyre both a night and day difference, metroid kept the atmospheric feel of the original where CEA just made every level super bright and even took away visual/environmental story telling aspects. So glad Metroid did it waaaay better.

@@youtubesucks1821 MP3 was great. Loved the risk/reward of using hypermode (on hard mode the boss fights are genuinely intense), and it was the first of the trilogy to actually have free-aim. I also like the first two better overall (mainly due to world design), but I prefer the combat in 3 to the beam selecting of 1 and 2. Same….I’ll busy myself with persona 4 until it comes out
It's incredible how they managed to update all of the assets while still staying true to the original art style. And there's just little things that demonstrate that this wasn't rushed out the door, it was given the proper care that this game deserves. And now it can be played portably, which is something that seems to have been overlooked.
The graphics upgrade for this is pretty much exactly what Xenoblade Chronicles DE got and it looks amazing
Yeah, no. Xenoblade changed the textures and character models, Prime changed almost everything: Lighting, 3D character and environment assets, select animations. They're not in the same ballpark, and Prime's improvements are unanimous which wasn't the case as to how the characters looked in Xenoblade.
You've convinced me. I'm picking up the game. I remember the vary first Nintendo direct I watched was where Prime 4 got delayed. Just seeing all the sadness and excitement over the Metroid series online over the years has peaked my interest. Now it's time for my to jump in and see what this franchise is all about.

The visor makes me think Metroid prime 4 would be a perfect match with a VR device. Maybe the next Nintendo device might have VR capabilities
@DaoTzu I usually play VR with quest2 but since experiencing Heretic in VR in the 90s I've seen the potential in immersion.
The only issue with this is the beam shots no longer light up the environment. That's weird because everything else does. I wonder if it's a bug. I have to wait till the 22nd since I'm getting the physical version...oh well, it'll give me time to finish Dead Space.
I've noticed a few other game play differences as well
It's not a bug. They removed it from the Wii version because the motion controls broke that aspect of the lighting with the ability to move Samus' arm in many more directions. This game seems to be based on the Wii version, and also includes the motion controls. My guess it that they decided to include the motion controls over keeping that part of the lighting.
@@dobrozner7784 You're talking about something different. You're talking about the particle effects on the gun with the charge beam. That is what was removed from the Wii version, and it is restored here. The shots lighting up the environment was in the Wii version.

The care this game has to immerse you into the world is incredible. When i played it back in the day, i mostly ran through it and only scanned things when i needed a hint. Replaying it now, i took my time and scanned everything. It's amazing how it has in-universe reasons for enemy behavior. It makes the world feel like a diverse ecosystem I'm moving through instead of just a game level. Instead of having a barrier, you have to use a certain use a certain upgrade to break, they're built from unique materials with unique properties that make it weak to certain things that you have to figure out on you're own. Mechanically, it makes no difference, but these little details feel less of a game and more of a space adventure across an alien planet with its own history. I cannot sing the game's praises enough.

This will be perfect to company with my AR glasses on the go.
Looks so awesome that Im waiting for the physical release on the 22nd
I haven’t played it yet but it looks great. I might have to wait until I knock out the backlog and get some things done but when I do get to play it, I have no doubt it’s gonna be a great experience.
For anyone who plays Splatoon with dual stick + gyro, you can do this with Metroid Prime Remastered. When Dual Stick control mode is activated, go to options, controls, camera, and select gyro + stick. I don't see enough people talking about this. The game also works great in handheld mode.
Game has dual analogue with gyro for fine-tuning but is not enabled by default. Have to choose dual analogue and then enable gyro in the setting below.
It runs and looks so good I forgot I was on a Switch.
It’s so surreal to actually see this on switch, especially since there was literally no official build up. Of course I’m buying the physical so I still need to wait a few weeks but until then, it seems like the hiatus is finally nearing its end.
