  • After lots of research and planning, I finally pulled off my first manual transmission swap on this first gen MINI. Now that the CVT is out of the way, the car runs and drives like a dream. There will be lots of go fast bits on the way to make content with in the future, so stay tuned as I turn this ratty little eco-box into a dedicated track weapon.

    Damn, I can't wait to do this! This was going to be my first mod, but the previous mechanic's work didn't allow that to happen lol. I'm still rolling a reverse-less midland 5, with gearing that mimics a slipping clutch lol. Hopefully, I'll be able to do this next year. I'm so ready to have a 2nd gear worth a damn.

      Especially with undersized tires and facelift gearbox, the shorter gearing is a lot of fun for such a low powered car.

    Hi Collin. I know this is a year-old video, but hoping you still see comments here. I have officially purchased all the parts for an Auto to Manual swap and am getting ready to start planning out everything. I came across a listing on a parts seller that listed steering columns for auto and manual as different part numbers. Can you confirm if you had to swap steering columns in addition to trans, pedals, collant hoses, axels, oil cooler, mounts, wiring harness, and the other small items?

    • @collinryser
      @collinryser  Před rokem

      I did not have to change the steering column, wiring harness, oil cooler or any coolant hoses. I spliced into the wiring harness to add the reverse light connector, which I suggest over swapping the whole harness.

Drilled out empty pin #4 (see Bentley manual ELE-53) to insert a connector with wire and pin stolen from my replaced CVT wiring harness. That went to pin #8 on EWS (engine immobilizer) blue/black wire. Needed to get a clutch safety switch and a pigtail to get the proper pins and wires. Its other wires went to A. • @collinryser
      @collinryser  Před 2 lety +1

      Thank you! Your swap should be a bit easier. You already have the right pedal box and master fluid lines, although the slave cylinder lines may be different. Not sure about the trans mount, it may be different. Have a look at the clutch slave cylinder fluid lines and the transmission mount/bracket to see if they’re different, otherwise it should basically be just like a clutch job.

    • @collinryser
      @collinryser  Před rokem

      There is an oil reservoir at each end of the supercharger that can be drained and filled. Good idea for any car that is new to you if you don’t get full records with it. You can also check for scoring on the tips of the fins. A few here and there is not a problem but heavier scoring may indicate bearing wear. Inlet and outlet gasket, water pump and associated o-rings.
