  • Like the Panamera in Part 1, The Audi A7 is a car we've driven and discussed on our Podcast, but haven't ever put on camera. Now that used prices have brought them down to Everyday Driver levels, we found a 3.0T to pair with the Panamera 4. In the end, it gives the guys a chance to talk about buying used German luxury cars that are now "Affordable" because they are less than half their original price.

    A7! Every time I see one, or ESPECIALLY an S7, my heart stops for a second and my mouth drops. A7, S7, and the RS7, my favorite sedan. Ever.

      whats maintenance costs like

    • @actorartistmusician
      @actorartistmusician Před 8 lety +6

      +matrixlone depends on the deal. If you can get a Certified Pre a owned one like we did - maintenance costs are lower, cause the car is basically covered for everything but the MMI- it's a good idea to splurge on cleaning. So we spend about 300 per year on cleaning, and about 1000 at any major milestone checkups - we've only had one of those so far. Pretty affordable in our opinion.

    Same results I would have concluded with. The Panamera is a great car to drive and thank goodness you don't have to see it while driving it. The Audi is a bit numb but I love it! Fun fact: the A7 is just as fast 0-60 as the old Ferrari 355!

    My friend just bought a 14 model with Prestige package. It is a lovely car for sure, Prestige package adds S-Line body which goes on S7's. Prestige pack and 20in wheels really do add even more curb appeal to already a beautiful car. He bought a CPO with 26k miles for $48k.

    I just got one, I also have a A8, A5, and S4, and this car is the prettiest. I have this color combo….only downside is, I drive I “gently” because of my fear of the mechanics. My S4 just went through engine mount issues, flex pipe broke which led to it pouring out coolant and over heating, and now the catti May need to be replaced. I also have a GS350 fsport/GX 460….those are my real go to’s….but this thing is just so pretty.

    I read somewhere that the panamera originally had a similar sloped roofline, but when a bigwig at porsche sat in the back (he was over 6' tall) he said this won't work-make the roof line higher so that form would follow function. odd that I think that is audis slogan but it doesn't always apply for them (a7 and the q7 rooflines pop into mind)

    Excellent! If I had to choose one, it would be the Porsche. Even though its ghastly, it feels like the better package of the two. Its more focused, more unique and the interior is beautiful. The A7, though better looking, is simply boring, like most Audis.

    I'd choose the Porsche. Mainly because we have a panamera 4 and you don't see them everyday. But all the Audi's look the same. I see at least ten a day and they all look similar. When you see the panamera you stop and appreciate it. And the interior of the Porsche is muchhhhhh nicer.

  • @youdollpete
    @youdollpete Před 9 lety +1

    Great job as usual guys but I guess the topic of reliability is taboo. Statistically the Porsche wins hands down over the Audi as far as number of problems vs miles driven. This must be factored into the decision if we're focused on overall price. Note to trolls- please don't reply re how reliable your Audi has been. Reliability is a measurable statistic. Math trumps personal experience.
    Keep the great vids coming.

    • @jwj500
      @jwj500 Před 9 lety

      youdollpete Please review the latest Audi quality reports. Audi was in 4th in overall quality last year. Only 4 points behind the leader... So, when you look at the problems vs miles the Audi is very dependable. And yes, I have 4 Audi's, (one with 275,000 miles on it). With that said, I'm sure the Porsche is reliable too and both offer a good bang for the buck.

  • @iSOBigD
    @iSOBigD Před 9 lety +3

    I don't understand how a giant company like Audi and Porsche with lots of experience behind them and known for fast cars get 310 hp out of a N/A and even supercharged v6, where as companies that others look down on like Nissan and Hyundai get 333-350 out of a N/A V6 from years ago. Also I love the A7 look but the interior is not as impressive as I thought when I first saw it years ago. It really does not look better than that of a Maxima or a Genesis which are half the price. I think they need to step it up, it's getting a bit outdated.

    • @lilannikootani
      @lilannikootani Před 8 lety +2

      +iSOBigD The difference is Audi is not a Nissan or a Genesis when it comes to technology or style. I dont' think either of them handle as well as the Porsche or the Audi - I have had a Maxima. However, the Maxima is fast but lacks the same control as either car...just sayin'

    • @iSOBigD
      @iSOBigD Před 8 lety

      +lilannikootani well you're also talking front wheel drive sedan vs a Porsche that costs 2 or 3 times as much. Any fwd car will feel different to a rwd especially when it's not meant for sport. I had a 6th gen maxima and loved it, but my rwd genesis sedan is faster and feels more fun despite being even bigger, heavier, and having softer suspensions. Its mainly because I can let the back slide or turn the car easily.

    • @iSOBigD
      @iSOBigD Před 8 lety

      +lilannikootani oh and most people with audis have the 2l turbo which are slower than the average v6 sedan so they're not "fun" at all. My brother has an a5 which looks great but couldn't keep up with either of my big sedans

    • @lilannikootani
      @lilannikootani Před 8 lety +1

      +iSOBigD It is true and I agree. When I test drove the A5 after i drove the a7 it was a huge difference. It was like finding a man behind the curtain and not the mighty powerful Oz. The A5 has incredible styling but doesn't hold a candle in look interior exterior or performance as the 7. The a4 2016 looks okay but I have not test driven it. I would hate to be disappointed like I was with the 5.

    • @iSOBigD
      @iSOBigD Před 8 lety

      +lilannikootani well they're the entry level cars along with the new a3 so they'll never have nice materials, but the new displays make them look more premium now which combined with nice exteriors make them sell. For sure though you need to go a6 and up for a luxury car, same as with Mercedes and bmw (e class and up, 5 series and up). Unfortunately most buyers buy the low end and think they have a luxury car just because of the brand, but really they'd get more for their money in a fully equipped accord, avalon, maxima, low end infiniti, lexus, high end Hyundai, Kia, etc.

    @ItsumiSensei Před 9 lety +5

    If we are talking about price/deals you have to go Porsche all the way.
    They may both be 50k or 40k (Porsche a bit more) now but I can assure you that the Porsche won't drop much more anytime soon. The audi? it's just another audi so like all audis in another few years it'll be worth 10 dollars lol (exaggerating a bit here)

  • @theCycleReport
    @theCycleReport Před 9 lety +20

    I love this. I like and respect both companies, but admit that I am a Porsche-holic...
    To me, the A7 isn't as good looking as everybody says. I have never seen the point of the coupe-sedan thing. I realize that the hatch can be more convenient for cargo than a sedan's trunk but if I paid for a 50-80k car that was 4000+ lbs and couldn't seat four adults due to the lack of headroom, how is that better than an A6? Plus, the back of the A7 looks like a dog scooting it's butt on the carpet.
    The Panamera is indeed the ugly girl who knows how to party. It's hideous from every angle but the front, but a better car despite that. However, I can't imagine the buyer caring about the handling and dynamic advantage all that much to justify the cost. It's great that Porsche made their big fat ugly sedan a "Porsche" in motion, but it was a nearly pointless exercise done extremely well.
    If backroad handling or track duty is any sort of priority, there'd really be no point in buying either of them for anything other than a superb dd/distance machine/etc. given that the A7 is better looking (no real winner here imo, just a bigger loser in the Panamera), nearly as nice inside, has a better smoother engine and costs 10-15k less? I'd buy the Audi and have 10-14 to buy a fun inexpensive sports car for when I really wanted to carve corners or track it.
    Leave the fat kids at home for that.
    Love you guys, the videos, the podcast, the lot. Keep up the good work.

    This is the reason the government wants to them to pay higher taxes because they talk about 50k like it's nothing. I must be super poor. 50k is 700-800 a month not including insurance if you actually want to pay it off. Most people are going 84 months on these cars to get the payments down. This is a easy win for the Panamera.

    I am watching this now because you can get a Panamera with 50K miles in the high $30s now. I feel the interior of the Panamera is miles ahead the Audi. And I gotta disagree on the styling. The panamera is beautiful and unique. The audi is honestly forgettable. Also Porsche is known for making rock solid vehicles whereas Audi/VW dos not. Then there is the badge effect. There is a vast different between saying you drive an Audi versus saying your drive a Porsche.

Just to give you an idea of how low 310 horsepower is by todays standards, a 2002 Infiniti Q45 has 340hp. 350z's have 300hp. 2016 Nissan Maxima has 300 hp. Old Japanese sports cars from the 90's had 300 or more hp stock (300zxTT, 3000GTvr4, Supra, GTR) Mustang eco boost has 300hp and Camaro has 300hp. So I agree with Paul, even the base model A7 deserves more than 310hp.

    • @hyperlogos
      @hyperlogos Před 9 lety

      branzilla Probably true. If you want affordable, go back to the D2 (first-gen) Audi S8. You can get a good one under $15k. It's way lighter than either of these cars. Get one with a rebuilt or replaced transmission, and a recent timing belt job. You also want the sport seats - all the seats are Recaros, but the sport seats have more support. The D2 S8 is several hundred pounds lighter than these barges.

    and i like A7 but is pointless as ( sportback ) sedan
    as X6 it pointless SUV or R35 GT-R is pointless sport car
