Roobarb (diff spelling) and Custard was an animated TV series from the 70's about a Cat and Dog. Quite fondly remembered.
Hi Temeraire! Thank you, we didn't know that about the TV series. Just looked it up, appears it was one season, about 30 episodes from 1974 and came back in 2005?
Also loved
sherbet fountains as a kid, my fav was raspberry flavour.
I bet we would both love raspberry.
Quay is pronounced key, so quayside is keyside :)
Thanks, we would have never guessed that one. Just when we think we've learned a lot of British pronunciations, there are always new ones!
Americans would call it a wharf.
@@neilgayleard3842 What does wharf mean in UK?
an area like a wide wall built near the edge of the sea or a river where ships can be tied and goods can be taken off them: The crates were unloaded onto the wharf. Compare. pier.
yeah a geordie .....from newcastle upon tyne nice one neil
It was really nice to get the postcards and see more of that area.
I've not had a sherbet fountain for nearly 60 years, I always ate the liquorice first and then poured the sherbet in my mouth ( it always seemed to get up my nose) old Jamaica is one of my favourites, a great selection of sweets from Neil
Hi Michael! We're reviewing the proper sherbet eating protocol/procedure, seeing that it could possily be messy. We had something somewhat similar in our childhood, I think our parents frowned on it (those darn grownups!) Love the old Jamica choco, just fantastic, seems as though any rum-flavor in our chocolate here is not the easiest to find. Very much appreciated from Neil! Happy Tuesday!
Bet it made you cough! Can't remember if you were supposed to suck the sherbet up through the liquorice (ineffective), or dab it?
Love 💯💯💯🔥🔥🔥❤️❤️❤️😍😍😍
I think you guys tried the milk and raspberry before same as the drumstick they do different flavours apple, rhubarb & custard also banana (minion ones)
Hi Domm! You're right, we had the milk and raspberry as well as sour green apple/cherry squashy drumstick candy. Really enjoy the drumstick candies, they're something we can't find at our local World Market (at least yet anyways) Happy Tuesday!
What is the difference between Newcastle and Newcastle-under-Lyme?
Newcastle upon Tyne is a Northeastern city in England and home to the river called Tyne river. However, Newcastle under Lyme is a town in the West Midlands of England and home to the river Lyme.
Newcastle grew up in the twelfth century around the castle which gave the town its name, and received its first charter in 1173. The town's early industries included millinery, silk weaving, and coal mining, but despite its proximity to the Potteries it did not develop a ceramics trade.
We haven't heard of Newcastle under Lyme before.
The UK now have a competitor for smelliest cheese its called Minger it may even beat stinking bishop Minger is currently exclusive to asda UK, would put the meaning of the word minger on here but your best off looking that up on your own as some may find it offensive.
Hi James, we're definitely intrigued though we haven't been able to try Stinking Bishop yet. And we have a new British slang word to add to our vocabulary. 🙂
Torquay's name originates in its being the quay of the ancient village of Torre. In turn, Torre takes its name from the tor, the extensively quarried remains of which can be seen by the town's Lymington Road. The original name was thus Torrequay, then Torkay, Torkey and Tor Quay, before the words were joined in Torquay.
During World War II Torquay was regarded as safer than the towns of South East England, and played host to evacuees from the London area.
Torquay (/tɔːrˈkiː/ tor-KEE) is a seaside town in Devon, England, part of the unitary authority area of Torbay. It lies 18 miles (29 km) south of the county town of Exeter and 28 miles (45 km) east-north-east of Plymouth, Yes that Plymouth.
Nice at whitley bay hard think it's few miles from Newcastle some beautiful coast up there my colleagues n friend lives up in Blyth he loves being on coast.
Daimn flavours always nice, really lovely parcel from Neil A
It looks very beautiful up there. The postcards made the beaches look warm, but not sure how long beaches stay warm up that far north! Even in northern California, the beaches can stay cool most of the year.
Riesen is a confectionery of chocolate and chocolate-flavored caramel produced and distributed by August Storck KG, a German confectioner that also produces Werther's Original.
We see Werther's quite a bit here, but haven't seen Riesen for a while.
Chewits are a bad idea if you have fillings! I loved them when i was 10 however 😂
The Rum and Raisin Bournville smells exactly like my late grandads car. Which is weird.
Hi Marty! You're right, I was actually wondering if fillings may loosen from the chewits goodness, so far so good but it was in the back of my mind some dental work may get undone :) Ross here - Years ago I used to work on the computers inside police vehicles, all the cars were pretty much the same except for a school resource officer, I kid you not, the inside of that car smelled like store-bought snack cakes every...single...time...I had to work on that car
No exactly how u feel like toffee I have avoid anything really chewy expensive going to dentist have back in again.
Good evening Good video keep up the good working 😊
Thanks Daniel! 🙂
Och Ross they are only wee chews, you both seemed to enjoy them.xx😊
Hi Jackie. It would be easy to eat a bunch of those chews in one sitting! 😃
Hi both. Hope you're well. Today marks the 3rd week since surgery on the 14/11/23. Got another 4 weeks till i can come off the cast into a boot. Have had good days and bad. We had snow this week which has briskly melted away. Winter is holding tight with it getting dark mid day. Anyway, hope you all have a good week. Love leon 🇬🇧. Xx
Hi Leon, sounds like you are almost at the halfway point for getting your cast off. Hope you have more good days than bad. How early does it get dark where you live?
@@FinnLovesFood hiya. Hope you are well. 😊 . It starts getting dark around 3-4 pm and then by 5-6 pm it's black. I live in the west midlands so not in a major city. Though it is known for pottery, old mines and lots of takeaways lol. I'm originally from essex (south of england) but lived 10 years in scotland as a child. Lol. Been at my current location for 13 years. we get ALOT of rain with the odd bit of sun and lucky if we get more than a week heat wave in the summer. Oh and a flurry of snow that melts and turns into black ice. Plus neighbors 4 corners of your house. I do miss being in the countryside. Happy hump day. Leon 🇬🇧. Xx
@@lovelifeandcrafts5003 the sun is setting here around 4:45. Pretty soon it will be the shortest day of the year and we can start heading back the other way.
woodentie does remember(still have disturbing/erotic dreams of Ross bathing in a bathtub of rum and raisin😁). A couple of weeks ago I bought the chocolate bars I sent, which I'd not had for yonks - Cadbury's fruit & nut and rum & raisin - f&n was good, still to sample the rum & raisin.😊
Apologies for traumatizing you with those images! 🤣Hope your week is going well and enjoy those Cadbury bars.
Another good selection, I am sure you will love all of them. As a child I loved sherbet fountains but I made such a mess they were banned from the house 🙂. Not sure if you have young family who would love the chews, but then again would they get a chance? 🙂. All the best to you both (Tina - "we could try both of them" made me smile,
Hi Jeff. I'm afraid we're going to make a huge mess with the sherbet fountains and possibly embarrass ourselves. 😅 It's just us and Finn, but I have a feeling the chews will go fast. With chocolate I'm usually filled with a few pieces, but I can keep eating the chewy stuff!
Refreshers are also a type of sweet a bit like love hearts.
Just suck not blow with the fountain 🙂. Ross - interesting you used to work on electronics, I did that for 40 years, mostly small mainframes & periferals fo an American company.@@FinnLovesFood
@@jeffmarriott Hi Jeff, Ross here - interesting YOU should say that! My first job was that of a mainframe computer operator back in the day (glorified tape monkey, get the tape, load the tape, run batches, rinse, repeat) ahhh good times
Hi Ross, cutting edge stuff in those days ( you look too young for that stuff 🙂) Started repairing terminals, personal computers in the early 70's & worked up to mainframes & large servers in the early 90's - loved it. could have moved to Canada or South Africa with the company but chickened out. @@FinnLovesFood
Hope you guys are well
We are, thank you. Hope you are well too.
Quay is pronounced key
Hi TruBrit, Happy Tuesday! Thank you, now we know :)
It's funny, we don't have Creeks here in the UK, just streams, rivers, becks, burns, goits, rills,
dykes, leats & flows. There may be more that I forgot or don't know, that's all I can recall just now. Have you ever had actual real rhubarb & custard? It's great. Sorbet is like ice cream, sherbet is a powder, it comes from the Turkish. It's a Cinema, not a movie theatre. Sherbet dabs were for us kids when I was young. We would cut the top off the liquorice tube & suck the sherbet up as with a straw. Another type had a lollipop which you licked & dipped into the sherbet powder repeatedly. I think health & safety laws have changed this now. American chocolate could not pass as chocolate in Europe as the cocoa content is too low. Also the fat content etc is different, even between Cadbury's in the UK & US, making the taste quite different. British Cadbury chocolate is not considered good in Europe, Belgian & Swiss are rated better. Check the producers & ingredients of the items sent to you for the difference.
We use stream and creek interchangeably here, but when given a name, it seems like the word creek is always used, like Arcade Creek. Don't you also use slough? We use slough, but I think we pronounce it differently.
We've never had real rhubarb and custard. It's not very common here, but some regions have strawberry rhubarb pie. We also have sorbet, but sherbet here is much closer to ice cream as it has milk or cream in it. It will be interesting to try the tube of sherbet! Neil also sent us Dip Dab. Is that like the lollipop item you describe?
Great British puds Eton mess, key lime pie and lemon merangue I think are the others, I bought a could of bags a year ago and regretted not buying more
Couple of*
Hi Nick, Happy Tuesday to you! Ohhh those all sound good, especially key lime pie. We do that as well, regretting not stocking-up on 'where did that come from?' items we'll come across, such as the recent cheese advent calendar we came across. That same shop we found some Mr. Kippling Unicorn loafs, package of 4 for $2 (oh yes, we stocked-up on those) If it's Mr. Kippling, it must be good! :)
