Great video, amazing audio!
His guitar doesn't do the silent scream of watch me dance with fancy pedals and moving in circles. The very fact he plays so efficiently, and can just stand there and make you watch his fingers says it all. He's not all rythmn, he's skill,mastery, and age, all rolled into one. You don't get a better guitarist.

Knopfler is in a very small, very elite group of guitarists....... and just like fine wine, gets better and smoother with age. Love how he just gets on stage and plays, no gimmicks, no bullshit, just him plying his craft. A pure joy to watch and listen too.

There is many guitarists in the world who have either 'speed' or 'feeling', but only handful of those like Mr. Knopfler who has marvellous combination of both - Big Thanks to Mr. Knopfler who inspired so many young people! Our ears will always tell the truth to the brain - that's what matters - and as someone already commented - you cannot reproduce those tones he played :)! NO, you can't! MARK, RESPECT! :)

This is the last 1/3rd of the song, obviously highlighting Mark's guitar solo. The entire song takes about 15 minutes. It is one of the best rockin' songs I have ever heard. It always gets me rockin', boppin', shakin' and rollin'! Awesome talent does Mr. Knopfler have!

This gentlemen is a true master of his art.. His voice, his guitar are an extension of himself, his emotions and life experiences which are expressed so vividly in his performances... just watched Mark Knopfler concert at the Atrium 2012 and it took my breath away! It is on CZcams.
As a young man, I bought "Love Over Gold" on cassette when it first came out. I'd listen to the "Telegraph Road" solo while cruising down a highway late at night. It may sound a little odd, but it just "seemed right" for lack of a better description. Knopfler doesn't get his due when great guitarists are discussed. This is pure artistry genius at work.
Dire Straits is night time music - and you cruised to the best of it.
By far the best guitar player on the planet. He makes it effortless... The only musician who plays in colors and many dimensions... out of this world.

Is it really important to decide on "who's the best"? Isn't it enough to enjoy the music? There are more than enough immensely talented musicians available and there's really no need to senseless bickering on who's better than the other, imho. With apologies in advance to all the die hard Knopfler fans, but as a guitarist for 35 years with sincerely the greatest respect for Mark Knopfler, the first things that hits me when I listen to this clip is: what a fantastic drummer!

Saw Mark on Sept. 11, 2019 in Salt Lake City, UT. Still as good as ever. Never gets old. Best song writer/guitarist ever. Can't wait for his next trip to the US.

I've been a fan since the first time I heard skate away. Have watched the natural progression of his life and how it's affected his music. Stood in silent appreciation everytime something new came out. I gotta say, he just keeps getting better. There are very few people who can make you feel an emotional attachment to a song like he can, and he does it everytime. All I can say is thank you. Glad that we lived in the same time period. His music is as close to perfect as music can be.

Absolutely GREAT sound. For my money, Mark Knopfler and Eric Johnson are in a class of their own when it comes to tone. It's like they play a whole different instrument.

Possibly the hardest guitarist to imitate. Even when he's playing something that isn't very technically demanding, there's so much fine detail in the way he plays it, you can be theoretically playing the same thing note for note, but so much is lost.

I have never heard anyone play with his ease,his natural relaxed ease , seemingly effortlessly,and he does so much that no one can copy.

Was lucky enough to see the incredible Mark Knopfler on this very 2005 tour outdoors at the Fraze Pavilion in Kettering, Ohio on a beautiful summer night. All I can say is Telegraph Road was just out of this world --- I have no words to describe the power and soul of this song Live. Danny Cummings was with him, as were Guy Fletcher and Glenn Worf. This song along with Brothers in Arms and Song for Sonny were simply phenomenal. As a side note, about 1 month later and just by chance, I ended up on the real Telegraph Road --- it is in Michigan up near Detroit.

One of the things that makes Mark such a good guitarist is, of course the notes he plays. What makes him a great guitarist is the notes he doesn't play. He plays with an understated confidence and soulfullness not seen in mad pickers anxious to show you their speed chops. On songs like this, he shows he can keep up with the monsters, but on songs like Wild Theme from Local Hero, the great live version of Don't worry with the Everly Brothers and most everything else Mark proves again and again that less is more.
