- In today's video, we will restore and revive an old Late 2013 iMac 21.5" I had for years in the attic and run a recent MacOS OCLP Sonoma on it.

i am watching this video on the same imac and its still good for gaming and browsing
Still pretty good! Just need to upgrade the ram and hd and it’ll fly
These iMacs are great. I have a 2015 quad core 21.5 that I used as my daily driver last summer with a 500gb ssd. Perfectly useable and it runs Monterey natively. Now it's my backup server but they're great devices. You really need to get the fixit opener tool that looks like a pizza cutter in order to take the display off, it's well worth the money to save that screen from any potential cracks
I thought your chanel was famous, I really appreciate you and your content, wish you all the best❤
Thank you!
Awesome video so far!😁
thank you!
Nice video😊
Thanks 😊
I have an older iMac that I put in the garage that I am going to take out to see what I can do with it. iMacs are beautiful. Just a pain to upgrade on the newer models.
agreed! would love to clean the old thermal paste out but it's an absolute pain to take the display out with all the adhesives holding it
I use this exact computer alongside my Macbook Pro M1 Pro, it’s great on Sonoma with Universal Control. I get some graphical glitches sometimes though, and I sometimes have to force restart it on boot because the progress bar does not appear for some reason, and macOS won’t load. Only thing it lacks is a Retina screen!
That retina screen is really helping its longevity! Still smooth animations really help the fluidity of the computer! The 1080p monitor is still fantastic!
The tests are slow for the ssd because it can take a day or more to let spotlight index after an update, and you have to install Big Sur before Sonoma when you use the patcher because it came with a firmware update that is needed before you install Sonoma to help with certain devices.
That’s a pretty good insight! It’s been smooth sailing so far, still surprisingly snappy!
@@cynonexus Awesome, good to hear. I have the MacBook Pro 13 from the same year and they are all amazing even still. 2012-2013 was a sweet spot for upgrading and reliability. I went down the rabbit hole of updating mine but am still on Catalina. Do you think Sonoma is a good long term solution or would you keep it at Ventura if you did it again?
@@ghost-user559 I personally think monterey is a perfect fit if you want flawless performance with sonoma, there are a few hiccups here and there especially a retina macbook where it has to push more pixels unlike this iMac.
I recommend you upgrade cpu to 3rd or 4th gen intel i7
It’s a pain in the ass to open this iMac 😂
I run Ubuntu, so my 2010 model with i7 works just fine today.
Still wonderful! 2010s you can also upgrade the graphics!
I was on the lucky side, as this model has Radeon HD 5750 1024MB. Strangely the i7-870 still runs strong. I have a dell with that same chip, and it's a dog. The TDP wattage is a bit high, but $99 to get that 27-inch picture!
I have the 27” 2014 model and I use it for modern gaming, I personally find it concerning how apple would stop updating such amazing and powerful devices
anything 2013 can definitely support at least Ventura with ease! Sonoma might be on the slower side but still, perfectly usable regardless!
I got one for free. Won’t connect to App Store. Latest os that I could get on there is X
i use to have 2009 iMac it died on me over year ago
Probably just the graphics card! It’s user replaceable
