  • This was my trip to Lundy Island where I stayed in and videoed Lundy South. I also had a visit out to Lundy North, which had been unmanned for several years and was looking sad and neglected. Also on this trip, I videoed the old Lighthouse and its Keepers accommodation which is now holiday rental. The Island is a special place and well worth a visit, you can even camp there. I also managed to get brief access to a barn housing some lighthouse relics, which hopefully will go on display somewhere.

    Another brilliant insight Peter. Thanks for all your work of filming, converting and editing. It is very much appreciated by myself and many others. Footnote for Lundy North, In 2018 the light was moved from top of the tannoy stack of the fog signal and is now once again inside the lens room of tower. Buildings were modernised and redundant equipment removed so should last many more years as working lighthouse!

    Lovely Film showing all aspects of being on Lundy Island, My Stepfather was On Lundy North from 1967 to 1974 it was nice to see where he was stationed He sadly passed away in 1998 He took some interesting pictures at the time of Lundy North also Hartland Point and Bristows Westland wessex relief etc The airport near Swansea that Phil Griffiths could not remember was Fairwood Airport. I was 10 or 11 at the time and Loved relief days at Fairwood watching the Wessex getting checked over before work started & the crew Kept me interested in everything absolutely wonderful experience to have. How did those Supertyfons on the roof of Lundy South work? I have a recording of those horns when they were still in service made by Allen Renton, but I still can't for the life of me figure out how the heck those things worked since it was mounted on the roof and there's no air hoses running through the lantern.

    • @PeterHalil

      Can't help you there as this wasn't my station. Maybe the pipe work went outside the lantern under the roof ladder?

    • @hellooldchap
      @hellooldchap Před 4 lety +1

      There is a 5 inch pipe at 10:52 which connects the air tank from the service room to the Supertyphon's above. Allen's recording is from some way off but there is a good Supertyfon from Peters Hanois video or czcams.com/video/kqYn550QccM/video.html
      On a foggy day there now all you hear is the birds and the waves.

    Sadly when I was at Lundy North in 2018 it was in a sorry state. Sad seeing the lens like that with no shine, be interested to know where it went. Early 2020 a new LED lens has been installed inside the lantern again, bringing it back to life.

    Hi Peter, just a question. Are the incandescent bulbs used, around about 1,000W? I have seen in one of your vids so far, where one light was HID, and i believe these days, LED is becoming more common. But there's nothing like the warmth of light given off an incan bulb.

    • @PeterHalil
      @PeterHalil  Před 3 lety

    • @PeterHalil
