Restoration KHEVSUR Rusty Sword

- Hello folks! Today I am restoring the Khevsur sword. Khevsureti is one of the mountainous regions in Georgia. This sword was made at the factory in Soviet times, it can be seen even by the dales on the blade that were made on the machine. Most likely the year of manufacture is the 1960s-70s. But the item has apparently been in a damp place for a long time. The strange winding of wires and insulating tape surprised, however. Well, let's start the restoration.
The first duty is to dismantle the old aluminum handle. By the way, the shape is very good, but alignment and cleaning are required. The first duty I took apart the sword, the handle was almost not fixed. The old rivets broke and it was held on wires and duct tape. I completely cleaned the handle with a sandblaster. I put the sword in the middle to remove the rust, but after a few hours the rust remained.
The blade had to be sanded for a very long time with sandpaper. The handle of the Khevsur sword, I darkened by chemical means, corrected and cut out various ornaments on the back of the handle (trying to do everything in the Khevsurian style, at least approximately). I attached the handle to the sword with new rivets, as well as the empty part in the hilt I filled with epoxy resin with sawdust.
Next, I made the scabbard of the sword out of wood, glued it with natural leather of medium thickness and made the fittings of the scabbard out of copper. And of course I conducted a very big and fun sword test for you! I hope you enjoy this sword restoration video!

Здравствуйте. Очень нравятся Ваши видео, смотрю Ваш канал со времени его сотворения.Вы не толькко большой мастер, но и хороший актёр. Вижу как Вы мучаетесь с ножнами. Попробуйте после изготовления первой половины, обвести изнутри примерный контур готовых ножен.Засверлите по контуру тонким свёрлышком насквозь.Далее, склеиваете обе заготовки и обводите контур ножен используя просверленые отверстия как точки.Можно пилить не опасаясь испортить заготовку. С огромным к Вам и Вашему творчеству уважением.Удачи Вам.

Работают не только руки ,но и логический ход мыслей.Уважуха .Сам немного кудесничал ( сначала "реставрация " ржавого немецкого штыка ,на рукоять использовал "красное дерево ", позже ,для себя,охотничий нож ,лезвие клапан ,рукять "козья ножка " ,навыков и знаний немного не хватало в области "химии" Смотрю с удовольствием и интересом ! The restoration is nicely done I only would add to wood or leather to the handle for the weapon because the metal can overheat or got electricized. Also for the hand a leather covered handle is great to save your hands. Other than that the whole restoration was great and the blade looks really reliable and strong. Sharp and it cuts very well. I like also the small parts and details on them, nicely done and it makes the weapon 1000% more personal and talkative.
Greetings! You're right, I also wanted to add a guard and a wooden handle, cover it with leather and add a couple of rivets, but then I would have moved away from the original and this made me leave the old handle. Thank you for your attention. ps I don't like the old handle either)
@@ScrewsAndTools Well I have no problem with the old handle and a restoration is restoration because you save as much as much you can but you did it an amazing work with it. I am happy you see my point and we share a common one. Hopefully your next restoration will have some wooden handle and leather. Cheers mate!

Hi! Thank you for your interest and advice. I made all the engraving cutting tools myself from different grades of steel. Modern ones are extremely expensive)
the tool is in the steady hand of a master, I don’t think that cuts are a big problem for him, also watching previous videos I understand that the author strives for authenticity and original technologies
