You’re the absolute best pure fisherman I’ve ever seen. Anytime anyone asks about a new you tube channel for them to watch, you’re channel is always mentioned. The scenery, the fish, the information, just everything on your channel man. Absolutely amazing content.
I cannot believe how good/confident a caster you are. Just an absolute machine throwing trebelled lures way under trees and near cover.
I fish for smallies back home for hours and can hardly figure them out.

I’ve learned watching your videos that bass and pike will eat pretty much anything thrown at them, from a worm to a duck to a chewy or pecachu, which has always amazed me.

The smallmouth rivers you fish are so cool! I'm jealous. I think if I lived there I would become a smallmouth junkie and my family would have to stage an intervention to get me off the water.
Backroads, I have been to Minnesota a few years back for a two week vacation & man it's like this all over there. Awesome fishing everywhere. Matt grew up there so he knows his shit for sure. Lucky as hell to know all these great spots he goes to.

@@wstn7938 Hey, When i went i was with friends one whose parents owned a small cabin in Itasca County. From there we fished where they knew & we had gotten a map of all the rivers & lakes in the area. All were as nice as where Matt here goes & all were easy to reach. No names i can say as it was a few years ago but i still have that map. Most of the lakes were around 40 acres & as i said all are free to fish as long as you ave the means to get out on the water & your licence. . All the ones we went to were not far apart either. I know you want names but i would & can find my map if you want & get the names of the ones & they were many we went to that had Smallies , Pike , Musky's Walleye, Crappies , Bluegills Large mouth bass , & even Rock Bass . I would if your living anywhere near Itasca County get you boat ,Kayak or there are places to rent small boats & pick any as they all are great fisheries. Matt is lucky to have grown up there as well so he has learned all the spots you see in his clips. I know you want names but i can't recall all of them without my map. You can't go wrong in Minnesota it's possibly just one the best fisheries in the States. If i can find my map i will get back to you with some names but a map of that area will give you what you need. I'm from Maryland & i will be honest i had fish withdrawals when i came back it was so good there. . Minnesota is one awesome place once you get out of the city. Hope this will at least give you some help. Matt usually doesn't seem to answer questions or you could ask him but he has so much going on i don't think he has time to answer questions as i don't see many on his clips. I would say good luck but out there you won't need much to catch some quality Smallies or any of these fish .
@@paullevine1813 very cool! I grew up in Hagerstown born and raised on smallmouth on the Potomac. I'm fortunate to have lived in Grand Forks, ND for 10 years and had Minnesota right next door. I sure do miss the fishing up there

@@mynameisnotcory for me it depends on what I am throwing. Casting is more accurate for me once things get heavy, but I prefer spinning gear for simplicity. I'd rather fish than fool with gear.

Part of me feels only those of us up north can really appreciate a 5lb 8oz largemouth bass. The growing season is shorter and in my state at least, fishing pressure is heavy, no matter how remote you can go. That makes catching a lunker either pure luck or figuring out what no one else throws. My PB last year was 5lb 5.4oz. My PB of all time for largemouth was 8lb 6oz, that was about 23 years ago...
What kind of idiots would give a thumbs down to videos like this, probably someone that can’t fish as good and likes goofy music and would rather listen to some wiener trying to sell their products with fake smiles like on those fishing shows. This guy is down to earth and “real” about fishing. He doesn’t edit his videos when he gets tangled or snagged or cutting his finger on a pikes tooth, this is reality, not fake and it happens to every angler. Another thing I alike about his videos is that he’s quite and peaceful instead of jumping up and down in fake excitement like other videos saying “did you see that, did you see that ???”. Great videos and I’ll always give a thumbs up.
I bought a couple of savage gear snakes after watching your videos, been using them the last year all over the Midwest. Caught me some 5+ pounders in the Ozarks. Awesome lures.

I am 70 now, fished most of my life, what amazes me, besides how good you fish, is that there is never other fishermen or women around, !!
I go to a lot of spots without boat ramps where dragging a kayak in is about the only way to access the water. Most people don’t want to put in the extra work when there’s a dozen easy launches on other lakes within ten miles. The fishing is always better at the quiet spots though!

I took our double seated kayak on pine lake in mid MN this past week, the water was flawless , caught a small mouth with my mouse lure and a small catfish with a night crawler. Had fun with the kids and wife.
Your video made me laugh because while mowing this past week, I witnessed a Gardner snake cross my path evading the chop of the blades.

I spooked a snake off the dam of our private pond one time and watched a bass nail him a few seconds later. It was about a 2 foot water snake.
Yeah dude. I once saw a video of a bass caught on a lure, but with a snake in his throat.

The mark of a good smallmouth lure is when the front treble is the one they consistently get hooked by. I usually cut the back treble off when that happens. Better action with the lure, and you'd never believe it without seeing it, but you almost never miss them.
