      By the time he did Delirious at 22, he was the sharpest thing on the planet. Very minor stumble on the Star Trek joke, other than that, he was pure danger. Best delivery ever.

      I can't believe he came in last. He was the 1st performer of the five. The order they performed was the reverse order they placed. I watched this on SHOWTIME when it came out. Granted I was 11 but still remember a lot of his routine (I think this only has 1/2 of it) but none from the other performers.

    He's better here (at 19) than several comedians I've seen on much bigger stages with higher quality production... Eddie definitely deserved success.. About 3 years after this he was a bona-fide star

      You would have been 3 or 4 years old in 1985. I'm pretty sure you didn't understand the majority of his jokes back then, but were merely laughing at how he sounded and the facial expressions he was making.

      He wouldn't return to stand up, he said so. He hit big in '79, '80, but, today is different, and he doesn't need to re-prove himself, it might not work!

    He had the gift of making the room feel uncomfortable and owning it, which only exceptional comics can do. When they say his early material has not aged well I completely disagree. This is comedy at the boundaries and he just it. Legend.

    None better. I saw Delirious when I was 15. I had to sneak into the lounge room to watch it when everyone else had gone to bed, and it was so hard to stop from laughing like a crazy person after the first five minutes. I thought, by the time I'm halfway through, the whole block is going to know there's something weird going on in our house.

    I watched it on TV with my Dad. We could not believe he came in last. Another black guy won I believe 500 bucks. The look on Eddie's face when he came in last. How ironic within a short period of time he was famous.

    He and Keenan Ivory Wayans and a few later famous comics were all applying to be on SNL back then; it was said that when EM showed up to audition he told everyone else to go home, no use applying because HE was going to get that gig. EM was younger then most of them so they clowned his young ass right on the spot. He auditioned and got the gig and the rest is history.

    Yes, he's heavily influenced by Richard Pryor! He's said on numerous occasions, when he was 15, 16...he would basically do Richard Pryor act! And a lot of toilet humor.lol But, safe to say by his 2nd major stand up special "Raw", he was all Ed. And inspired the next generation(Rock, Martin, Morgan, Fox, Chapelle, Tucker, etc)

      never saw him again. he walked out looking like a goofy looking dork and that was a big part of his routine. he sucked. I was 11 when I saw this on Showtime so I don't remember much about it. I know one of the other performers did an impression of John Wayne and told the joke about a woman going into a boat with a bunch of guys to go fishing and came back with a big red snapper.
