    I have been working an eight hour, 7 day staggered rotating shift (overtime means a 12 hour shift or a 16 hour shift or a split 16) for the last 25 years at a power plant. Lots of your tips for getting decent sleep are pretty on point. The one tip that is a MUST is having a "sleep cave". A place that "feels" like sleepy time is a must! The week I am on days (6am-2pm) is best, pretty much normal life. The week on pm's (2pm-10pm) I absolutely detest, since I get to see no one. Midnights (10pm-6am) isn't bad, I have breakfast with the family see everyone off for the day, get my sleep In, than I am up before the Mrs. gets home, help my 3 boys with homework, get them to sports practice and back home before work. Did all this typing on midnights...LOL

    I have just accepted a NOC position again. It's been a while so I really appreciate your awesome tips! You're floating through these nights so seamlessly. I hope I can transition as gracefully as you have. Thank you so much for this video! 💗❤

    Thanks for the advice!
    Tip for a tip: when you were doing push-ups I noticed that your elbows are 90 degrees to the right and left, which can put more strain on your joints rather than your muscle. Try keeping your elbows closer to your sides for not only better development, but also wear on your body!

    Ill try this advice!
    I work rotating shifts. My big issue is inability to sleep during the day. Ive tried to follow alot of the common advice; blackroom, cold room, melatonin, etc. Im around the point where im considering seeing the doctor for a sleep aid for sleeping during the day. I have no issues at all sleeping at night or rotating backto day shift. When i do sleep during the day its always very light and usually less than 3 hours. Its not uncommon for me to go 48-72 hrs without any sleep at all. Benadryll or zquill kinda work but often just make me feel even more exhausted and still cant fall asleep.

    Thank you. I’m a single mom in nursing school. This semester my clinical is night shift, and jumping back and forth between days in class and nights at the hospital is killing me.

      Yay!! You will love them. Please let me know what you think. It took me about 6-7 days to get used to them at first but now I can't go to bed without them.

  • @thebarefoothipster8718

    Can you make a video talking about your favorite foods to meal prep and make when working on a night shift schedule?

    • @theothershift
      @theothershift  Před 2 lety +1

      This kind of video has been in the works for a little while now. We did this one (czcams.com/video/i8nENeh_G68/video.html) about meal timing but I agree we need more about what to actually bring along. I'll let you know what it's published. Thanks for the kick up the butt to finish it!

    I currently work from 4pm-12:30 or 1 am. In about a week, I'll be going to day shift. I'm used to going to bed around 4 am but soon I'll have to wake up at 6 am. I'll have a weekend to try and get my sleep schedule readjusted but I think I'm still gonna have to use caffeine to pull through.

      Hi Mega, thanks for your comment. You may find this video and little more relevant as you moving to say shift czcams.com/video/ycHYBWTfnPg/video.html.
      Let me know if you've got any questions. As an alternative to caffeine, I am also having great success with this sleep device from BonoSleep. bonowellness.com/theothershift. It's a bit bizarre but seems to be working great. May be a good drug/caffeine free alternative?

    I’m starting a 12hr nightshift job this week, by the time I get home I only have 8 hours before I have to go to work again, should I go for a sleep as soon as I get home or stay up for a bit then go to bed???
