    Lastly, if you're a new nurse and you're struggling to find your feet I know exactly how you are feeling. It's awful going to work every shift feeling this way. To help build confidence and resilience I have put a lot of work into building a New Nurse Survival Kit and it could be just the thing you have been missing. Check it out here -

    I have kids that I homeschool and my hubby works from home. We put blackout curtains in our room and I bought a sleep mask and ear plugs😂. I come home and stay up till noon and then I go to bed. I eat a zero carb snack like an egg and definitely no coffee! When I wake up I eat my big meal.

    aluminum foil works great for blocking out light. use a fan for the sound. Turn the temp down, and go in 4-hour shifts. 4 hours when you get off shift, 4 before. Never deviate from that schedule.

      Totally understandable April. Physically tough job I can imagine. Maybe on the "weekends" whenever that is for you, try and get your heart pumping a little? Reformer pilates, though expensive, I'm really enjoying even after a big shift at the hospital. The class goes for about 50 minutes. Amazing stretch. Have you tried something like this?

    Any tips for a night shifter who takes care of her kiddos (ages 5 & newborn) during the day! Hubby works day shift and I work 3rd shift because daycare is expensive & so one of us is always with the kiddos! Also it's just us, so not a lot of help from friends or family. I am lucky to get around 3-4 hrs of sleep total and that was before our newborn arrived! Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated 😊 thanks

    Hie. Please throw some words I'm suffering due to night shift: 1) breakfast has become a myth to me!! I want to have it but always fail ! 2) I'm hating weekends as i just finish them in jet lags! Thankyou in advance.

    • @theothershift
      @theothershift  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Shivani, thanks for checking out the video. 1) breakfast - why are you wanting to have it? Waking up feeling hungry? Have oats/eggs/chia pudding ready and available as soon as you get home. Making it easy for yourself works for me. (Not eating too late in your shift can help make you want it too). 2) Check out this video as I think it will help with the adjustment. czcams.com/video/ycHYBWTfnPg/video.html (I have also done one from days to nights too). Exercise, sunshine, healthy foods and not sleeping too long on my final night really helps me adjust. Best of luck Shivani

    Since we recently starting to work night shifts (also known as being nocturnal), we sleep with transitional objects during the day just to improve our quality of sleep. For nocturnal shifts, we sleep with stuffed animals that are nocturnal; those are bats and red pandas since those animals are awake at night.
