  • Bob Naismith sculpted some of the very first Space Marines, and here he talks a little bit about that process, and how they've evolved over the years. He also talks a bit about his career and his own sculpting endeavours!

I hope some of the newer fans will find their way on this channel someday. These people are LEGENDS.

I like how all these founders of the biggest hobby brand in the world sit in completely normal, suburban, slightly messy houses and apartments while a company that today is run by a completely different bunch of people are making millions on their ideas and designs.

Got into 40k in 4th, left the hobby in my teenage years, now I rediscovered it as an adult. I live for these uploads mate.

  • @Bleentron

He's had such a varied career in sculpting, that he's just kept going all this time, complete with transitioning to digital, amazing stuff. Good on him.

That plastic skeleton set. I seem to remember it being 12 quid for thirty skeleton warriors, some bow skellies, plus some horsemen and a chariot. Blew my tiny little ten year old mind. Was incredible value for the time, plus the sculpts looked exceptional.

More interviews with this chap. He has so many stories and he's such an enjoyable gent to listen to.

SELL THESE MINIATURES IN PLASTIC AND METAL AGAIN! FOR GOD'S SAKE!

I met Bob in the Car park of GW's HQ (Chewton St, Eastwood, circa 1989) where he had a portacabin. It was in here he showed me the initial "Epic" scale marines that he had individually injection moulded the concept of producing these tiny minis in plastic on a vast scale, the 5mm metal minis included within the "Adeptus Titanicus" blistered titans was unsustainable (at an army level) due to the exceptional demand in production at the factory for 28mm figs. Thanks for a great interview Bob, it was always a pleasure to work & talk to you, all the best.

These will always be my favorite versions of space marines. Each figure had such individual character like medieval knights.

I want to hear the old guard sound off on the bastardization and destruction of our IP we hold MOST DEAR. For the love of Terra.

Why can I spend so long listening to old sculptors talk?

  • @ATOMTAYLOR

I could happily listen to Bob all day....

  • @DaddyPims

Always makes me happy seeing Scottish sculptors

  • @matthinton19

I love how casually Bob talks about changing the entire history of gw. Could listen to him for hours

  • @mikefoster6018

God - these massive names from early teenage years. A privilege to hear from them.

  • @flowinsounds

my favourite mini is one of Bob Naismith's proto terminators. Absolutely love it. Recently stripped it, as my 14yo self's paint job wasn't the best, and it looks totally at home next to its bigger deathwing brothers

  • @Lord_Humungus

That first space marine looked sick

  • @matthayward7889

Bob Naismith is an absolute legend. Fantastic interview!

  • @Alex-lm7cx

Bob's a humble guy, but whenever his name comes up in podcasts with other old GW heads you get a sense of how highly he's regarded.

  • @shawkorror

That Skeleton Army box was the first thing I ever got, back in the early 90's....good god's i loved those things. Thank you for the memories you let me make!
