    Statement from Zenvo:
    At the first visit, the clutch of the car burned out after an hour of extreme drifting by Top Gear drivers. At the second visit,a faulty intercooler fan caught fire after more than one hour of intensive high speed testing and 50 liters of fuel used. The source of the fire, has been traced back to a defect in the fan delivered by an acknowledged automotive supplier. After this incident Zenvo Automotive are conducting thorough testing of all fans before mounting them in the cars.
    The car unofficially reached 304 kmh (189 mph) which was the highest speed measured on the straight of the Top Gear test track in recent times. This information did not air on the show. Also not made public was that Top Gear clocked the acceleration time from 0-100 kmh (0-62 mph) at 2.69 seconds on damp tarmac.
    Instead Top Gear brought a lap time with the Stig conducted on a day where driving was not recommended in many parts of Britain due to low temperature and extreme rain. The weather conditions and the amount of water on the track severely reduced traction on the cars 345/30 ZR20 rear tires resulting in a lap time that does not reflect the real potential of the car in dry conditions.
    Zenvo Automotive is looking forward to making a more realistic lap time in dry weather conditions.

      Yep, and their job to keep the car safe before anything. If there is a part that could heat and potentially burn, there should be a sensor or something to keep it away from burning.
      This means this car never pushed to its limits and they never see what happens when its overly used.
      Cheap city cars made that years and even before has temperature sensors in cluthes and brakes when heated too much warns you to slow down or rest. That cars warn you even a side turn signal bulb not working. This car has very big good elecronic screens and not capable of showing the cooling failure?
      No one say anything, unless it's a rally or lemans car, to cut some power when heats and warns the driver when its overused.

    It's a shame really, because they did try. Most B movie low budget supercars have seats and steering wheels from MOMO and Sparco, buttons and switches from Ford or Audi, and dials from a Porsche. Everything that you see and touch on the Zenvo, all the way down to the in-car computer system, was made in house by Zenvo. This, I think, shows a level of commitment that the car's dynamics, and rearlights, sort of lets down a bit. But we mustn't judge to harshly, after all this was our first real attempt at a car. The second attempt won't be from Zenvo though, as their rep is tarnished now :(

    • @MrAnas1987
      @MrAnas1987 Před 8 lety +35

      +Kristian Brandt i wonder though.if thats their first attempt...and they arent a big company with limitless recources...why they decided to make a 1000+hp car.making a good one with that enormous amount of power is much more difficult than making a supercar with say 400-500hp

    • @kristianbrandt3012
      @kristianbrandt3012 Před 8 lety +67

      +MrAnas1987 Because what Clarkson said was true. Who's going to buy a supercar made by a company no one has ever heard of, from a country with zero car heritage, over a Ferrari? They needed the 1000 bhp, the zillion dollar pricetag and the Mjolnir badge to create a big enough "WOW" effect. It's the same thing Koenigsegg, the other Scandinavian hypercar maker, did. Not even sure all of the gills were necessary, I think most of them only serve to draw in the sort of oil billionaire who buys this type of car.

    • @rorschach775
      @rorschach775 Před 8 lety +13

      +Kristian Brandt Yeah this is the way to break in but the market is kinda getting crowded. The standards are very high and people demand a lot. It's expensive too so they can't sell it as a bargain. I wonder if making an exclusive "affordable" super car would've maybe been a better approach. I wish it worked out though. It's gotta be heart breaking to get the car that far, put it on the show and see it burn up. Pagani had a car burn up also I think in an episode but it's still respected for some reason. So hopefully they can make another attempt. I always root for the underdog though.

      +Sam R True, and nor did they use SSC's approach. You know, their Tuatara car which they insist will do 455, but they haven't actually done it. Actually the Zenvo is quite a humble car. I know this is an odd thing to call a hypercar with both a supercharger AND a turbocharger making more than a 1000 horsepowers.... But they never came out and said it'd do 480, they made it very clear that this car will "only" do 375kph.

The Top Gear team clocked a 0-60 time @ 2.69 sec WET, and a 304 km/h on the straight of their test track which is among the very fastest ever in the history of Top Gear. The clutch broke down after an hour of hard drifting, and the fan broke down after 45 minutes (and 50 liters of fuel) of 0-300 km/h testing. Stig's lap time was made in a day where driving was not recommended in many parts of Britain due to low temperature and extreme rain. Considering this, I think the car is fantastic. just because zenvo told clarkson was crap at driving after he drove it off the track, and when the zenvo got back to uk from denmark they told that there was a problem with the fan so he should go easy, but because they said you needed to be good at driving not to glide around on the track, he just gave it all it could take so the fan and ventilation system broke, and it went up in flames.

      a < $100k Tesla can do that. the ST1 is a failure. They shouldn't have aimed so high without the technology to tame that 1000hp engine. and for god's sake. not even the new Korean cars have that issue on their lights. it's just proof that they didn't care much for the whole package. they cared more as to how they can put a thousand horsepower in a car.

    • @starvalkyrie
      @starvalkyrie Před 8 lety +2

      no more so than another amg power plant. A company could spend an awful lot of money and not develop anything near as good as the LS series. If your passion lies elsewhere in car design it makes good sense to source the engine elsewhere. Who made the block really isn't the end of an engines story anyway, so there can still be some theater added by the production team. Super and turbo is just fun to say.

      it be better off with a coyote hear me out (massive boost so dohc has more valves so more air flow smaller so easier to cool higher rpm red line and responds much quicker than a push rod ls

    • @starvalkyrie
      @starvalkyrie Před 8 lety

      The engines static airflow is less important in boosted engines, not more. When running above atmospheric pressure the air is going in with little regard for restriction, though restrictions could ultimately lead to additional back pressure this does not seem to be an issue in modern engines. I'm sure the coyote would work great but so does the LS, cost and availability may have tipped the scales. Or just simply the recognition and popularity of the LS, this is a new outfit afterall.

    And when that is said, I think that it is miserable that Top Gear gives gives people the impression that the car is bad. These guys should have a helping hand instead.
