We're taking delivery of our's at the end of the month in Brisbane. Looking forward to sharing some Aussie owner reviews. Great vid TT.
Congratulations! Can’t wait to see more reviews too! 🙂👍
another great video! Thanks for giving us a POV aussies!!!
Thank you! 🙂👍
Thanks so much for the review Tom nice drive to Akuna bay aswell ! Looks like another awesome Ev is added to the market for people with a less budget which is awesome (:
Pleasure Toad! This car will open up the EV market to a lot more people 🙂👍
Great video Tom! What a great little EV for our country. I’m sure this car will do well for people wanting to get their first EV! Well done MG!
Thanks Adam! Looking forward to seeing more MG ZS EVs on our roads!
Excellent video ! Did anyone else notice the Audi at 5:47 ? I think it is the Audi E-tron Sportback, like the same on Tesla Tom reviewed a few days ago. If it is, then it's amazing to see it on the road.
Good pick up Kev, that's actually the very same Audi that I reviewed - little easter egg there 😉
15:58 it's AM band radio 'channel spacing' 10kHz to 9kHz rasters
Ok sure
Great review, Tom. Love the fiddle with the knob and see what it does technique! It is great that there is an EV option in this price range. Australia needs cars like these. If you get the chance, it would be great to see a bit more - exterior, rear seats, boot, frunk?
Thanks Michael! That’s how I roll - push, pull, twist, turn 😜
- make sure you check out my walk around vid 📹
Sorry Tom, I hadn't realised you made that until after I commented. Thanks
All good! I saw your comments in my walkaround vid 👍
- Thanks for always being a great supporter of my channel 🙂
My pleasure, Tom. You do a lot for Tesla fans in general, but Australian Tesla fans in particular.
I find this type of video difficult to watch as an owner of the MG ZS EV since March and the reason for this is I did my homework for 6 months prior (Sep 19) to receiving the car so when I sat in the car for the first time I knew it inside out. There are so many unnecessary comments in relation to you not knowing how the car works e.g auto hold is on the car plus numerous other points you mentioned. Apologies for comments but if this was me and I had your audience I would want to present the car in a positive light by highlighting all its features and pointing them out as opposed to fumbling your way around whilst driving. If you contact me I’d be happy to chat to you and answer any questions you may have.
Thanks Jake for your feedback. The intention of this video as with all my EV test drive videos is to present what it would be like for the average consumer. I had done some homework but clearly not as much as you had which is great to see! Overall I had a positive experience with the car and I’m very thankful that MG are bringing this affordable electric SUV to the Australian market. I’m glad you are enjoying your ZS EV and I hope to see many more of these on our streets 🙂👍
@@LudicrousFeed Thanks for the reply. I appreciate you don't have long with press cars but I would recommend going forward to watch a lot of UK reviews (James and Kate/EVM/Drive Electric/Which/Carwow) as they do tend to give the cars a rigorous test but also offer a fair objective review by clearly working through the tech inside although i appreciate your video was slightly different and on the move. Keep up the good work and I only meant my post to a constructive one.
Thanks Jake and I do appreciate the feedback. I do watch a lot of the other guys and I’m always in awe of their style and knowledge - something I hope to improve from my humble beginnings given this is my first official media day with an auto-maker! Something I’m very thankful to MG for giving a small-timer like me a chance to showcase their car ❤️🙂
Spot on. At least a reviewer should know the price of the car they are reviewing if nothing else. This turned out to be more a non review really. Hilarious really.
The camera reads speed signs and displays them. It can also not allow you to go over speed limit displayed.
Thank you 🙂👍
Well done mate. This will be a coup for small families.
Thanks Nash! That price is certainly very attractive
I hate being next to any car that looks like mine. I always customise something. I would die being in a train of lookalikes I couldn’t talk. Good first review.
👍
Nice budget EV but I find that there is a problem that this car isn’t that popular in Australia “YET” but good job MG!
I think in time it will be popular for those looking for an EV at this price point
There IS a rain sensor RTFM
There IS a brake hold in the centre console next to the park brake
Thanks
You did everything I would do on a first drive test the radio, is is any good? I won’t swap my 2010 Lexus unless it is
Sound system is fine, does the job
Excellent price Australian EV, can get it for well under $39,999 driveaway if you know how to haggle
Always worth a shot 🙂👍
Great to have an Aussie doing these reviews. I find it interesting as a Tesla 3 owner who wants a cheaper car for my kids.
Thanks Craig, really enjoyed the day 🙂👍
Is it P-plate legal? No Tesla car is.
@@PCLoadLetter I once saw a Learner driver driving a Tesla Model 3 with his family in Noosa, Sunshine Coast Probably, taking it for a spin with the family. :)
@@kevs3209 L platers can drive anything under supervision. P platers can’t.
@@PCLoadLetter Oh ok, Thanks for the information. Didn't know about that.
You didn't setup the audio, it is actually pretty good when spatially set for the driver.
Thanks
Amusing that you spending the whole trip trying finding out how displays/buttons are working, LOL
Glad you enjoyed it 🙂👍
The A button is auto hold to stop creep at the lights.
Thanks 👍
That range would even get me on my pilgrimages to Moree, now that NRMA Scone is open. Not bad! Getting back is more iffy but things are changing! It might be a good Uber car too. Maybe 4-5 hours of city driving and rapid chargers are popping up everywhere for a combined meal and bathroom break. Provided longevity is good. Though it is made in China, so...
Agreed PC, more chargers on our major roads will make this car even more attractive 🙂👍
Actually... What’s the battery management system like? Active cooling & heating?
Liquid cooled
Boot is significantly larger than the Kona :) The ZS isn't much smaller than a Tuscon.
In hindsight yes I’d agree! Would love to put it side by side with a Kona 🙂👍
Can someone tell me if it has auto steering which we would want. Does it track straight or is it a ping pong device to simply keep from straying outside the lane ?
@@LudicrousFeed ahh good. The sales guy said it wasn’t included, but seeing they haven’t actually got one to drive I suspect he is mistaken.
Our SR+ has made us picky now.
Actually I stand corrected - I thought you were commenting on my e-tron video.
No, the ZS EV does not have auto steer (at least not the car that I was given to test drive)
@@LudicrousFeed Doh !
29:02 total coincidence that MG chose to take their new EV convoy past Hyundai HQ in North Ryde (Macquarie Park)?
Hmm interesting isn’t it! 😉
The beeps you heard in the tunnel are warning you of a speed camera
Good to know thanks 🙂👍
5:46 2020 Audi e tron Sportback 55 Quattro (on left side of screen)? Small world
👀
😆
11:17 What was the first car you ever bought for yourself? Brand / model / year manufactured
White 1981 VH Holden Commodore sedan. Great first car. I was very sad when it got rear ended and written off after 7 years of ownership.
@@michaelfink64 Blue 1988 Holden Camira sedan (manual), love it as a first car was a good a size and could easily fit 3 big adults as passengers plus driver. At that time people around me had Nissan Silvia's and Nissan Skylines but found them too low too the ground and cant fit multiple big adults in it when traveling together either. 2nd car after that was a 1992 Nissan Pulsar hatchback (auto) as I wanted an auto as the area I was living at that moment was in a hilly city and manual was a bit of a nightmare at traffic lights
Used ex-fleet white 2010 Subaru Outback. Loved that car. ❤️
Great car... I get 369km range on Eco mode..top notch!
That’s pretty good!
369km that’s pretty good.
@@MrHsv123 Is that with a quick charge half way>
Long overdue for Australia - an actually affordable EV.
Agreed!
KERS is the F1 term, you changed to sport so the range estimate changes...DOH!
Thanks
Range is my biggest limitation on this vehicle
Good point, hopefully our ever improving DC charging infrastructure will go a long way to offsetting cars with shorter range
I understand it's an EV, but does the tech justify the double in price compare to an ice ZS. Want to buy but really hard to get over this pricing.
That’s certainly the big question isn’t it, does the price justify the convenience of owning an EV ... 🤔
It’s only about $5,000 dearer than the equivalent spec MG ZS petrol version.
There are 6 speakers. Virtual sub
Thank you
Good to see cheaper EV options in Aus, the Kona EV looks like it's out of business with this vertically integrated MG company.
Personally Im just waiting for my tri motor cybertruck which I would keep forever, pay more for quality that's my moto. Always buy the cheaper thing then later but the expensive thing just best to buy best.
Indeed, always good to have more options available for EV customers 🙂👍
I agree with the pay more for quality Pumba. Have that argument with the wife ever purchase.😅
The best I've had at a charger is 77 kW, the camera does read the speed signs, and btw RTFM....
Thanks
Love the car. But the laggy infotainment screen seems like it could become extremely annoying
Overall it’s good value for money
I agree
Price is compelling for an EV but range is a bit low and still looks like a "hybrid" EV with lots of hangovers from it's ICE sister car.
All valid points Rory but at least there’s a feasible option now for those who don’t need that extra range 👍
I’m still driving my old leaf around everyday. Kids school drops offs, shops etc. charged off solar panels. 130km range with AC on. 30kwh battery if I have to drive further I use the old Kia 12 L/100km.

Hi Tom ,I bet it will be a nice feeling when you get back in your Tesla .
It will fit like an old glove ❤️👍
Next time read the menu first, surprised you still have a driver licence learning how to use the buttons of a new EV car taking the focus of your eyes off the roadway dangerously
I’m a quick learner
I couldn't watch the infotainment screen while you were fiddling with it. I was too busy keeping watch out the front and hovering my foot over the brake pedal. Please familiarise yourself while stationary.
Ok thanks for the feedback
Why were you watching with a brake pedal in front of you?
@@theairstig9164 Imaginary brake pedal, like a backseat driver. When the driver is not watching the road I take over.
8:26 223 km WLTP and 409 km NEDC / RDE? 409km X 54.5% = 223 km
I’ve since been informed that the bigger number is the odometer 👍
Yep, basically real world vs best case
pretty pathetic efficiency, I am getting 250kms range on my 28kw Ioniq
I think the size of the vehicle in each scenario also needs to be taken into account
Measure it as kms per tonne kwh for an apples to apples comparison
Wow no climate control? Even my 2004 ssangyong has climate control! But a great price. I think I will hold off for Tesla's $25k usd vehicle.
That’s one drawback unfortunately - hopefully next gen will correct this slight oversight
Nope. Bargain is as bargain does
Over rated feature and if it keeps the cost down keep it that way
Seem to spend most of your time fiddling with that irritainment thing in the middle, just switch the dam thing off
Switch the car off?
I got bored. The review was taking far longer than necessary. Why not work out what everything does off screen and then tell us about it in half the time?
Ok thanks for the feedback
I agree. It would be so much more informative for viewers if the basics were ticked off first. Good effort though.
How you don't have an accident I'll never know......stop fiddling with the infotainment screen.
Must be hard to watch for those who can’t do multiple things at once!
If we played with things whilst driving in the UK we would receive a hefty fine.@@LudicrousFeed
Big fines here in Australia for fiddling with phones while driving. Not so with car built in screens ... yet
Hello play radio !!!. Fool
Thanks for your correction, much appreciated wise one
Uneducated review , Car seems good value though.
Thanks for your educated comment. It is good value, I agree 🙂👍
