Family Dog Ditches Daycare and Rings Doorbell at Home

  • A family got quite the surprise when their security camera app alerted them that someone was at the front door of their Kansas home - while they were 1000 miles away on vacation in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was their pooch Dexter! He had escaped doggy daycare and made it all the way home, several miles from the kennel. But just how did this clever canine know the way? Dexter may know, but he isn’t talking.

    Dexter knows three things:
    - where he lives
    - how to get there (without GPS, by the way)
    - how to ring the doorbell to announce he's outside
    Let that sink in for a minute, people... 🐕

    My dad once saved a dog from the streets; he’d whine when he was inside because he wanted to be outside, but he’d whine outside because he wanted to be inside. So one day my mom told my dad he had to find a new family for him. He did and he drove him about 1 hours out of town to his new family. 3-4 months go by and as I’m walking to school I see him running towards me. This dude, walked and walked until he found our house!! It was so nuts, so we ended up readopting him.

      The internet was supposed to make yall smarter...not do the opposite. Here is a tip, whenever you're speaking on something that you're not educated on, ask polite questions--that way you have an opportunity to LEARN something. Dont make bold assumptions.
      What kids fail to realize is that, people EXPECT kids to ask questions & not know everything so its normal to ask questions in order to learn. Take advantage of being a kid & ask away! You're ONLY a kid a short 21yrs...then its ~80yrs of being an adult😐

    Two of my fogs did this exact thing. Except they weren't at a real doggy daycare. My grandmother was caring for them while I was moving. She lived about a mile and a half from the house we were moving from. The blue nose all gray pit bull name was Nikko and a chihuahua mix named Simba. Anyway, I got a call from my grandmother TWICE, two different days saying that my dogs were missing. We drove to her house, searched her neighborhood and near by neighborhoods, but nothing, we couldn't find them and no one had seen them. So just a thought randomly came to me and said let's go check our old neighborhood where we had just moved from. We started driving up and down the streets, and finally came to our street where we lived, and low and behold, BOTH Nikko and Simba were sitting on the porch wagging their tails when they saw my car. Lol. I wished I could've gotten this on camera. Nikko didn't give me time to open the car door, he jumped through the window, and Simba tried but was too short, all I saw was his head every second as he jumped to get a peak at me. Ahahaha. They both got in wagging their tails so hard and fast, I drove them back and gave them a pep talk, and said stay with grandma until we get settled in and mommy will be back to get you all. They did it again, and I knew exactly where to look and they were on our old porch again.....Rest in peace to both Nikko and Simba who passed away about a year apart. We had them both for about 11 years.

Turned out his owners had boarded him at the Vet's office while they were out of town. They had tied him outside and didn't supervise him and he escaped. When I talked to them they wanted to pick him up and I told them no, I would keep him til his people came home. I didn't trust them to care for him. He spent the night in my spare bedroom. The Vet had contacted the family when they couldn't find him and they were already on their way home from another state to help in the search. The next morning after driving all night his Mom came and picked him up. She just cried and cried. So did the dog. My Uncle had a German Shepherd that managed to find him miles away on an Army base. My Uncle was training as a sniper in our army and he went to boot camp more than a 4 hour drive away from home. The dog traveled for about a week in the Canadian wilderness and managed to find my Uncle while he was out training (the family thought that he escaped the suburban yard to chase a coyote and they couldn't find him despite looking everywhere for him). Luckily this was during the summer months, but none of my Mom's family know how the dog managed to find my Uncle at an Army base the dog had never visited before. The dog's name was Junior and he was my very first dog friend when I was a kid. That dog was super patient and let a toddler snuggle up with him for naps on his dog bed and play with his bones. I grew up learning how to interact with dogs because of him and he was a very good boy.

    • @WildKat25
      @WildKat25 Před 2 lety +9

      @@joevarga5982 I almost didn't believe the story until my Uncle had some of his army buddies over for a visit/dinner and they all got excited to see Junior still alive (he was about 11 years old, but the incident happened when Juniors was 2) and they started to reminisce about how shocked they were to see the dog digging under the outside chain link fence and bolting straight to my Uncle from several fields away. They were all convinced that their commanding officer was playing a joke and my Uncle's family were hiding nearby somewhere to "surprise" him with a dog visit as it was a couple days after my Uncle's birthday when Junior found him (my family did call my Uncle to let him know that his dog had gone missing about a day or two before his actual birthday).
      All of the guys apparently really like Junior and because they didn't have dog food on the base they gave him meat & bread based cafeteria food for two days until my Mom could come pick him up on a weekend. Junior apparently got to spend a good portion of those days being spoiled by their commanding officer as they did physical drills all day long.
      It's too bad the news didn't report about that kind of cool dog news back in the 80s.

    This same thing happened to my husband’s dog when his parents were at a local hotel. The dog crossed several streets and ended up at the door of their hotel!

      Should had put electric wire on top of that 6 ft wall. That would had prevented Dexter from escaping. 😉

      Yea they should start put electric fence and prison like barbed wire all over the compound..

      @KaleidoscopeEffect Před 2 lety +55

      @Christopher Burse They should actually keep an eye on them. Having a fence is not enough, plus being so late at night makes me think they were making the dogs sleep outside... And not even counting if they had all of them.
