    Radical Red on normal mode is a perfectly difficult but fun game to nuzlocke or just play through. Hardcore is just legendaries thrown at you for the sake of shock factor.

    Viva Las Vega is a newer version of Vega that makes it less grindy,more fair,but most importantly it has all pokemon from the postgame (excluding legendaries)available before the end of the game. It is absolutely worth trying,and the best version of Vega IMO

    • @Genoci
      @Genoci  Před 11 měsíci +26

      @@Genoci yeah Vega has a lot of potential, between all the references there are,the good spritework and the new region. They're just overshadowed by the amount of grinding and the bad variety in playthroughs as most people are kinda forced on using the same stuff. I think Viva Las Vega is better than Minus because the latter still doesn't have enough pokemon variety

      @Genoci  Před 11 měsíci +17

      @@Genoci There's actually 3! There's also Fairy Edition EX, which, idk if it fixes the same things as Viva, but it adds the Fairy type as well as several mons from Procyon/Deneb (The in-development sequel to Vega), which is really cool.
      I find myself struggling to choose between the two tbh, they both have ups and downs. I just wish we had a version that had the best of both worlds. Lol.

    Seeing the Prism animations reminds me of how much variety and fluidity there was when Crystal first introduced them. Then when Emerald brought them back they did some weird things like randomly enlarging Pokemon or turning them different colors...
    It would be hard to replicate that feel now with there being over 400 species in each game and on modern hardware, not to mention a Pokemon entering battle is no longer the only thing that needs to be animated in these larger scale titles.

      Me neither... it feels too forced. RR is not difficult , you just have to play streamlined to the point it's not even fun. You can't change difficulties as well, so in case an encounter has crap design you stuck until you go back and grind that one pokemon that will win you the encounter...blablabla difficult...boring af. Sure there are counters etc... but in this one has many paradoxes... pokemon 2-3lvls below, fire on fire it takes half your life, then you try the same skill with the same pokemon on the same encounter in replay and it doesn't even do 1/4... That's not ...difficulty. You HAVE TO play the counter...it's immune to any other logic.
      The QoL and pkmn variety though is outstanding... the level caps also...the factor that i have to go grind X pokemon to get me out of the X encounter... yeah ... no... too much for my time...

    In the latest versions of Unbound, the sandbox mode postgame warps you to the Battle Frontier and one of the clerks in the Battle Tower lets you buy (almost) every Pokemon by just typing their name.
    Emphasis on the word "almost" as some Pokemon who needs Key Items or Overworld Interactions to change formes are not possible, so no Therian or Rotom or Deoxys formes :(
    But having the God Stat Scanner and access to almost every Pokemon in the game basically means limitless way to theorycraft and teambuild...... in the Battle Frontier. Still worth visiting though.

I've been playing pokemon fan games and rom hacks for over a decade, and to be honest, not many of them hold my attention anymore. @@Cr3zant I disagree by a lot, it's quite the opposite personally. But I must say that Reborn E19 has downgraded its Dialogs a notch (and I don't like the post game resolution). Terra was always a character who should just not exist and the game would be better off without her. And with Ace they got another one (who got a lot better mid game). Rejuvenation though had so many other problems and cringe worthy dialog as well. The world doesn't feel edgy except the bad stuff that happens which made all edgy dialog stand out even more. I call that the Insurgence syndrome. I also can't even understand how someone could prefer the convoluted time hopping, chosen kids story, but maybe that's just me.
      The gameplay I think delivered Reborn a lot better too. Gave a unique experience without needing any fakemon. The available pokemon placements are honestly perfect and made team building so unique. Rejuvenation felt lacking there and custom regional forms and crests were just way too overturned for my taste.

      The ending also feels a bit rushed to me. You unlock the ability to take vacation days around rank 4 I think, but at that point you only have 1 or 2 days left in the gym before the game throws rank 5 through 8 at you in rapid succession.

    Don't agree with the rankings much but it's clearly because our desires in rom hacks are very different. I value Unbound and Gaia alot more because I want a hack that is polished and feels like a game Game Freak could have made (well, the old Game Freak), dont much care for difficulty/challenge hacks like you do. Personally, the most important aspects of Pokemon games are the exploration and battles. So I can enjoy completely new regions and stories, but they can quickly fall flat for me if the difficulty is on Game Freak's level. Gaia has a few interesting puzzles and a good region, but I was playing on autopilot most of my playthrough. Insurgence does the same and more, but with a decent challenge on top of it, so it pretty much strikes a perfect balance for me.

    I agree with you in a lot of entries but I gotta say unbound deserves better, the problem here is that you did not play the game like it was meant to be played, yeah the fact that you have no post game in sandbox is a bummer I think so too, but insane is a difficulty that is meant to be played after previous a playthrough in a lower difficulty with new game+ which highly improves the experience because you carry items even the sandbox scanner if you got it, but for that you gotta do the game fully and as you said it takes time and it may not be worth it
    though now when you complete sandbox it sends you to the battle frontier and you can nearly get every pokemon with the exemption of a few which really sucks, but it does let you access major post-game battles
    I believe it's stupid that people think grind equals difficulty, I guess you do get a lot of gratification after landing that strategy you have been working on for hours, but it just won't add to the experience it just makes it lengthy, sandbox it's not cheating whatsoever I hope you reconsider it on day and do post-game fights some of them a pretty crazy

    I've dropped you a sub, interesting tier list, I think I disagree on some of the much earlier rom hacks that were published and produced simply because in terms of quality, they were the best we had on offer *at the time* - As rom hacking has grown, so has the quality of newer rom hacks. So back in the mid-to-late 2000s when I first got into rom hacking, these were considered the cream of the crop. My opinion may just be biased on the fact that I grew up with some of these titles.
    Another thing, how come you haven't tried out Pokémon Fire Red Team Rocket Edition?

    Watching this made me realize how spoiled Emerald in particular is when it comes to improvement hacks. I picked up Modern Emerald earlier this week and it might be even better than Blazing and Inclement. The amount of customization is astounding, you can make your playthrough either very vanilla in a "Emerald, but better" way or make it absolute chaos, not to mention it has the modern Pokedex style which is fortunately becoming the norm these days. Also, unlike most other hacks and more importantly for me, the Battle Frontier is fully accessible and improved alongside the main game.

    Yay a fellow Pyrite enjoyer! I really like how challenging it was without having to cram every single pokemon/adding tons of over the top features. Pretty much the definitive way to play vanilla Gen II imo. Has the creator made anything else?
    Also I enjoyed Gaia a lot for its flavor/worldbuilding, but you seem to value challenge/gameplay a lot more, which I can get.

    • @Genoci
      @Genoci  Před 10 měsíci +1

      The creator of Pyrite hasn't made anything else afaik.
      It's true that I prioritize difficulty and gameplay, I always look for a challenge in my games, but other aspects can definitely also get me invested. God of War and Bloodborne are two 10/10 games for me that strike a perfect balance between gameplay, challenge, worldbuilding and story.
      For Pokemon games, I can really appreciate a well built or expanded region, accompanied by a good story, but if I don't have to use my brain to get through it, like Light Platinum and Gaia's case, then I rather watch a playthrough where the filler is cut out. The same counts for other franchises.
      Uranium and Insurgence (normal mode) are two fan games that have a pretty good balance between the 4 previously mentioned aspects, but I understand that their scores may not seem fair to some of the difficulty hacks that arguably have less time and effort put into them.
