I’m so glad that Patrick Coffin got this opportunity to further explain his position. I’m still learning about canon law and tradition regarding Benedict and Francis…. And I personally don’t have a conclusive opinion on this topic. Just that we have a pope, and things are off kilter. Yes, Francis is the worse ‘pope’ in my lifetime. What I hate is that Francis has added to tainting the moral consciences of people in the world, leading to diabolical confusion in politics and religion, as well as very skewed paths to salvation which actually lead to perdition!

Universi dominici gregis is a papal document that deals with disciplinary aspects of how to elect a pope which can and was partially modified by Benedict XVI.

@@dous1492 There are only a few foundational questions that determine Catholicism. This is one of them. Once you leave the safe arms of Mother Church, there are endless ways for error and division. It is unfortunate that Patrick has fallen for this trap and that Tim gave him platform to air his scandalous doubts about the Church. It is a massive mistake on both of their parts for different reasons.
You hit the nail on the head that Catholics reflect secular culture. One of the ways this is manifesting is in the doubt many here are placing on the Magisterium as if it is an institution of man-made origin. Fortunately it is given by Christ and such doubt is a loss of faith in Christ's promise to leave us the Holy Spirit, even when things leak as bleak as they do today.

Beautiful, what you wrote. Really. I am ALWAYS open to reconcile with Taylor, although he's apparently not. We should do so. He's a brother in Christ and the two of us should REALLY be reconciled: A) for the purposes of our own souls; B) for the purposes of our joint efficacy in tandem. It needs to happen and I want it. Your pushing for it is a grace. But it requires truth. (I'm not sure if I can hit "return" to create paragraphs, so I will do so by means of ************) *************Here's what actually happened on Easter 2020, the true version, once for all. Abby's huge, terrifying brain surgery (hemispherectomy--disconnecting one half of the brain) happened earlier that week, Holy Week 2020, and we were still stuck in a horrible situation at the hospital when the Twitter imbroglio broke out. Whole fam was living in our RV, one mile away from Children's Hospital (CHOC), which wasn't in our hometown (we lived in it for almost the entire month of the surgery/recovery, because due to COVID only one parent was allowed in CHOC at a time). It was a truly heart rending time. ***************On Easter, a few days post-surgery, Abby was having a somewhat rough day of recovery and accordingly, I was busy tending to her and the other kids and DIDN'T EVEN KNOW about Taylor's pro-SSPX Twitter post or Dave's fraternal Twitter reply to it: both happened much earlier in the day. Dave charitably congratulated Taylor on receiving the Eucharist, but urged him to stipulate that the circumstances of his SSPX reception were highly conditional, so as not to scandalize his viewership). I had no clue about ANY of it. (It didn't concern me then and doesn't much now, frankly, although, for the record, Dave was right). ***************All I know is that when I checked Twitter from the hospital later that evening--completely dispirited and crushed from the week's events, from Abby's hospital bedside--Taylor's most rabid fans were calling Dave, Steph, me (our family) the ***nastiest*** names. It was truly despicable, and Taylor was sanctioning some (not all) of it by "liking" those comments, etc. Also hurtful was the fact that Taylor--a friend--had refused to call me to wish Abby or my family well; evidently, this was only compounded by the unexpected disagreement between Dave and Taylor, the latter of whom had been (I deem) very angry when Chris Plance (months earlier) had disagreed with Taylor on Twitter about random issues which I've forgotten; but it suffices to say that, months earlier when Taylor first became angry, Chris wasn't expressing my view then, as I vaguely remember disagreeing pretty starkly with Chris. ****************Although, on Easter, I agreed with Dave, I am not in charge of either of them and prompted neither he nor Chris to tweet, as many of Taylor's blindest witnesses have falsely alleged. No matter: whether I agreed with the criticism--as I did with Dave--or not--as I didn't agree with Chris--Taylor tends to become enraged at ***any*** public dissent, blaming even uninvolved parties and failing to distinguish between fair and unfair criticism. (That issue was not new; I'd seen it arise MUCH during the previous year.) ****************The next day, as an ostensible rescript to Dave's assertion that he needed Taylor's cell number or something, Taylor let an especially mortifying private fact out about Dave's family's living situation (which Dave had shared with him privately months before). It was a truly low blow. Neither Dave, his wife, Steph, nor I could believe it (they were visited the hospital that day). Whether or not it was done vindictively, in one of Taylor's image-protective rages, is immaterial. It was VERY public detraction. Dave very charitably called him once to work things out and try to arrange reconciliation. Taylor answered, but wouldn't have it. FOR THE RECORD, he's NEVER ONCE called or answered me by phone since this incident occurred, even though he had said publicly on Twitter that "Tim and I will work this out privately." I find that quite misleading. *****************Like I said above, I am 100% willing to accept his apology for these grievances, and put this all behind us. It can happen very, very expediently and expeditiously. Passionate men, myself included, make mistakes of passion. And while I made none in this particular situation, believe me when I say I've made THOUSANDS of such errors with other folks in other private forums that I deserve a bit of suffering for. As such, I'm more than willing to bury the hatchet with Taylor. I'm enthusiastic to do so, and it could easily be done, if only he would undo the public damage and privately work out the private. I pray for this. God bless everyone involved. Thanks again for your gentle words. Peace, Tim

Add to this add the political parallels in the secular world and Covid overreach with it's compliance by Bishops, and all reactions should not surprise anyone. Shaming and blaming in the public arena is the enemy's game and a failure of charity. Truth will out. Christ loves his own and they will not be allowed to wander off, but they can be chased away by vitriol and name calling. Time to gather, not scatter.

By God's grace Benedict is still here to finish his role in the ultimate plan which only God is privy to but mysteriously is revealed to us. Another example of Bergoglio's deceitfulness: A friend was a seminarian in an Argentinian order. Bergoglio had been the spiritual director of the founder of the order for 30 years. Bergoglio called the seminary and wanted to speak with superior of the order. Instead of saying, this is Pope Francis and I would like to speak with Father..., he pretended to be someone calling from the Vatican Secretary of State. No one picked up at first on the call and Bergoglio left a voice mail. The seminarian who listened to the voice mail recognised Bergoglio and his allegedly being someone from the Sec. of State. The seminarian was quite puzzled that Bergoglio would not say who he really was in the message.

patrick coffin: for a long time i have understood the pope benedict xvi abdication situation in the same manner as you have. i thought i was alone in my view about it. thank you very much for confirming my understanding. this is indeed a holy mystery that we are slowly unraveling. regarding the papal clothing that pope benedict xvi wears: when he said 'there was no other clothing to be had' he was being silently honest: truly there was no other clothing he could consider wearing, other than papal clothing, and it was indeed a practical - rational - decision. pope benedict xvi is our pope in these apocalyptic times. and regarding the fact that pope francis has not visited nor will ever return to argentina, as he has said, it is because it is said that the catholics in argentina stopped supporting him when he was archbishop of buenos aires, and he knows that.

      @@francoisegregyi233 Objective vs Subjective:
Objective means something concerns the thing or object. Subjective means something concerns the person. When I make an objective judgement I judge facts or things or actions. When I make a subjective judgement I judge a person (which I do not want to do). Objective concerns the thing itself. Subjective means what something means to me.
      Material vs. Formal:
Material means that something is there i.e. It exists. Formal means it is declared as such. If I say "Pope Francis" is a material heretic, that means, he has all the matter of a heretic. It can be proven, that many of his writings, or things that he said, are heretical. I would not dare to say he is a heretic (formal) for no one can judge the Pope and no one can judge his intentions or conscience. I see heresy, it is there (material), but one cannot say it is formal heresy. For instance, the Pope will say “according to tradition…” and then he proceeds to say something wrong. An example of formal heresy would be if he should say something like “Contrary to what the Council of Trent says, I tell you…” some heresy. - Fr. As a relatively new (last Easter) convert to Catholicism--in part because of the wisdom, clarity, and boldness of both of these men--this thoughtful, gracious back-and-forth illustrates one of the many things that drew me to Mother Church. Contrary to the common notion most Protestants have about Catholicism, it's not a rigid structure of beliefs that have created a top-down monolith wherein the laity must "swallow and follow." Sure there are a small handful of dogmas and a carefully erected scaffolding of doctrines rooted in the early Church and reverently, gently fine-tuned over two millennia. But the structure of the Church supernaturally lives and breathes, encouraging its members to "chase the mystery" (Proverbs 25:2)...all as preparation to, for some of us, one day rule and reign with our Lord and His Mother over the new World to come.
