- Today on Modern Builds I'm going to build out a men's clothing store, on the cheap, in a week! We used simple materials: OSB and Raw Steel to create repeatable designs that can be reorganized to update the store layout without adding additional pieces. I hope you enjoy the video, and if you are interested in doing something similar, feel free to send me a DM on instagram @modernbuilds.

MODERN BUILDS

I think it works with the aesthetic the store/clothing is going for. It's definitely a streetwear style which kind of plays with contemporary ideas of fashion - aka why a lot of streetwear can look tacky, but that's why it's considered fashionable - so the contrast of an inexpensive and bare material against designer streetwear clothing makes sense
@@christian9902 Exactly what I was thinking. Industrial + minimal makes for an unfinished cheap mess. Lots of bigger name shops do this, and although it is way more expensive, its miles apart from what this ended up being.
Almost reminds me of an Off White store, considering that they focus on the works of Impressionism and a minimalist approach
It looks great, very high end street fashion look.
Beyond that, I hate this aesthetic. Not a fan.
Can someone who watched this 3 years ago tell me how much he bought the lot for 🤣
I'd paint the osb black or something. The wood looks kinda cheap. Throws the vibe off when you're looking at shoes or a hat off the plywood surface.
It matches the urban/minimalist aesthetic they were going for. All you need now is some minwaxed wood pallets and plastic milk crates for shelves.
Yeah I would have done a dark stain the use a glossy finish much better look and just for a little bit more money
Not going to lie that store is ugly
TheWarrrenator Cheap and minimalistic isn’t the same thing....
I agree
Given the final build out, the constantly trolling of the previous store's decor was uncalled for. The two layouts are far more alike than different, even from a retail merchandising perspective.
Cake Batter the previous store looked better.
Omni Media Group agreed
Absolutely agree. The store just looks barely adapted to its new purpose, it didn't change much. No need (nor sense) to trash the previous design. Anyone can begin calling names and using negative adjectives to sound like "they really know" but, honestly, it just shows ignorance and arrogance.
The previous store was way better and modern, they made it into a farm house
This exactly how a Streetwear shop should look like
People are missing the point here. Over the top[expensive] tenant improvements can doom you to fail before the doors open. I contacted too many of those pricey leasehold improvement over the years than i care to remember.......most those businesses failed in the first 5 years. You guys nailed it. Whether or not a person likes this style of decorating they should at least be inspired by what was accomplished here for the price on a cheap leather couch.
The OSB haters make me shake my head.....i love the irony of an inexpensive material carefully used to display a high end item ......heck any time you want to redecorate a piece of fabric draped over the OSB will do the job do next to nothing.....best of luck to all of you in this new endeavor..
I agree with many here.. that OSB is just not working.
Lol it looked better before than after. What exactly did you add? a raggedy looking osb ?? lol
Atif Javaid lmao
I think images in the wall or pictures or some printed or colour would of looked nice. Also in the changing room you should really hang up the mirror
Just here to say I dig the steel and OSB even though everyone's hating on it. I think you nailed the design for high end haute clothing like this.
Agreed, the people commenting that the OSB is hideous and that the store looks cheap, are commenting from the backwoods of Mississippi. I see stores like this in Manhattan every day and no one has an issue with the decor. Mind you these stores have been here at least a decade. If I were to add anything it would definitely be some mannequins and even some art on the walls otherwise they did an amazing job.
Final thought/PSA: READ THE TITLE!!! The goal was to show people how they could interior design their own store for cheaper than a bathroom renovation, they did just that. Tremendous job again!!! @ModernBuilds
It needs art high above the racks. You and your buddy should host art gallery shows and small gatherings to get people in the door. The cash wrap could double as a small stage for performers. Everybody is crapping on the osb, but like I stated below, it fits the urban/minimalist lewk you were going for. I hate to be brutal, but the products look like a consignment store with not enough stock or a half empty thrift store. I'm sure a lot of raw material for the designers is upcycled but still. Best of luck in your new endeavor!
As an interior designer, the aesthetic fits the clothes they are selling but yeah you're right. They need a little bit of color cause it looks too simple. If they really wanna boom the business, they gotta make it more artsy vibe and maybe hosts some party with people that jas the same aesthetic.
most people I know don't go into a clothing store for the aesthetic.. the only people that do that is the ones that go in and don't buy so they can stay out
@@FrancheskaZulla
If you've ever been to a high end store there is never much stock on the racks.
Its looks like store with not much knowledge on interior design and with a lot of money did this..
Exactly
Mike the metal worker. Good stuff bro!
Thanks brother! i'm trying haha
The osb looks much too cheap. I think white paint would've been nicer
Montezuma03 minimal. Aka cheap.
Jeffrey Lewis you can be minimal and cheap without looking cheap.
@@omnimediagroup5761 Yes, and they didn't get that aesthetic at all.
Or grey.
definitely stands out too much. They could've painted and the texture would've still came through. OSB texture is not minimal at all, it's really busy and overall very cheap looking.
It looks like you spent less than a grand. Investing in your business is one of the single most important pieces of running small businesses and that place looks cheap and unfinished.
I would have found some small tables instead of the plywood look or get table tops
there is the classic store
let's call it 1.0
products almost never change
the owner chooses the products
it is boring
now, there must be a new store
let's call it 2.0
products always change
people choose the products there will be via an app
on the app, there is a huge catalog, people choose the products that will show up in the store
the store is constantly being supplied with the products people chose
Dude...that joint FLIPPING ROCKS!
So I tend to agree that the OSB vibe comes across as a little spartan. Makes it feel like you're entering a construction zone. But I don't know if I'd necessarily paint it or something, that's going too far and trying to hide the aesthetic. I think there are better ways to spruce it up a little. Stained OSB can give an interesting effect while letting you keep the texture. Or if you did a thick glossy finish, you'd get the impression that the pedestals were "finished" in the sense that they weren't works in progress. Alternately just a little extra geometry can go a long way, a light chamfer would make the displays more inviting, literally. You wouldn't feel like you'd get a splinter getting up close.
Regardless of peoples comments about the aesthetic, mad respect for taking on such a big project and executing it.
Winston Moy finally, a positive, constructive comment
The store looks like it's having the "out of business" sale. Or a thrift store. And the location looks bad, especially for a premium designer store. Looks too cheap. Sorry, quite a few poor decisions have been made but I hope he does well.
It's really great to watch a local creator, looking forward to seeing that store in town!
I personally love this store and the OSB looks beautiful.
Idk why everyone in the comments are hating. I think it looks sick! Both modern but industrial. Definitely makes the clothing stand out more and this video inspires me to go through with my dream of starting a small clothing shop on a budget.
Seems like there are many people here that don’t get it. The minimalistic design and the OSB fits PERFECTLY the type of designer clothing that the store sells. Its maybe not for everybody to like, but i like it alot!
Thumbs up from the Faore Islands
I love this style, some people are saying it looks cheap, but I actually love it, I think it looks great its not about how well made or what its made out of, its the vibe it gives off, it seems like a comfortable place that would be great for photos, maybe some big leafed plants on some of the wooden pedestals would be a nice touch!
When you invest all your experience points into clothes
Looks aesthetically pleasing! Love the aesthetics
I dig how you embraced your materials instead of trying to cover them up. Inspiring!
The tv idea was cute ᧅ
What a great build out! The builds you made fits the store aesthetic perfectly! So inviting and just genuinely great looking, I will shop here!!
real nice, clean and functional.
I like !
Awesome, Its spacious, minimalist, and attractive, clean and breathtaking.
This inspires me to get back into welding and trying out furniture design
Love this design so much 👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Damn, bro. You got bars!
Best think I’ve watched today❤️
the led are dope
Could’ve simply painted the OSB boards white or gray for a 1000% better overall look. Sometimes we try wayy to hard to go for a look that’s “different” when simplicity works best. Otherwise awesome job guys!
obviously you haven’t seen mrbeasts $1 shop
Sooooooo awesome guys!!
Awesome video really helpful. Love how the store came out . Would of love see more of the store name stamped throughout the store or a logo.
I agree! I want to do some sort of sign on the back wall so you see it when you come in. That white wall is a blank canvas!
This looks incredible. Goes phenomenally with the high fashion aesthetic.
Mike, The store looks great! I appreciate your video. I am also a proud retail store owner (that shoots CZcams videos), and your video gave me some great ideas as I wrap up my renovation. I wish you much more future retail success. Chris
This is my favorite video I’ve seen in a long time! Please make more like this if you have the opportunity
Always great to see your work. Good look with the store!
Sweet build!
Awesome Mike! Love the minimal racks and the mirror lights.
Thanks Brother!
Looks Great
Love it! 👍👍
Good luck with the store !
FIRE 🏌🏽♂️

The store is wonderful. But that last little move you did as you walked out of the door was hilarious.
I really love it
I really love this video nice one keep it up
This is awesome
Congratulations brother from India. A beautiful purpose built build, really help in putting focus on the products. You have left so many blank canvases as well, saving up for the future. Wish to do some builds inspired from you guys.
I freaking love your channels and love binge watching!
Looks so good!!!!♥️
That store looks awesome. Fantastic job, man. It looks great.
Soooo dope!
'I am n investor so i didn't charge my labor...plus he's my friend so i considered as a favour'...this brilliantly rhymes....and the store looks awesome❤✌🏻
Mannnn i liked it, its like soooo amazing and cool.

Thanks for the great video. We’ve been brainstorming ideas for our moped shop and this helped a ton!
This turned out great!
2 years later and you still got 1 like... damn that shit busin'
@@Nosix lol weak af. You really care for like that much?
@@why-so-seriousx6192 why so serious
Great job. Hope the store is doing good. I love the industrial design but the only thing I would change down the road is the OSB portions into some nice recycled wood.
Graffiti would look nice on the walls imo
Amazing!
Dig the converge poster in the work space!
Good idea for pop up shops and rental store spaces. Obviously people can change the style to fit their ascetic/look.
thankyou for this vid. it was good to watch.
Damn this came out super dope, great palette!!
Spotted the Balance and Composure poster in the back!! Such a great band 🤟🏻 really enjoying going through all your videos, I’ve learnt a lot from them and your filming and editing style is really easy to watch!
Regardless of the comments, I did want to say i'm greatly inspired to open my own clothing store now. Thank you.
Very creative and inspiring. So dope!
I wish I had a friend like you 😆😆😆😆
i dont comment much but this video was great. Loved it!!
OMG BEST VIDEO EVER!!!!!!!!!!!
secretly sponsored by gorrila adhesive?
not a secret :) also have mentioned them as sponsors in previous videos and my podcast.
@@ModernBuilds sorry, will no next time. :) thank you for replying!
I love the minimalist osb and steel aesthetic. I think it's a great look for a high-end streetwear clothing shop and I really don't know why everybody else in the comments seem to hate it!
Amazing
Awesome 👍
this was really good
Love it
I love you😍 work man 👏
Loved that old tv and dvd player idea!
First time I watch a no scum vid you showed all the work im really impressed. Big like 👍
You get what you pay for. 😬
Given how long independent clothing stores last,
only a $2,500 dollar investment was wise.
It will be a thrift store in a year.
They actually just hit their 1year, and are doing pretty well
That TV is insane 🔥🔥🔥
