Any advice on how to winterize this engine?

I know it is per the manual but do you know why you have turn back 462in instead of just of working from TDC?

Did you get this engine fully running and installed back in the boat? Working on a ‘97 engine myself. Would love to touch base.

Doesnt the manual tell you to go counter clockwise 0.462 plus an addition rotation of the needle then rock back clockwise to 0.462 (to get the slop out)?

      2. Turn flywheel in a clockwise direction until No. 1 piston is at top dead center (TDC). Set dial indicator at "O" (zero) and tighten indicator set screw.
      3. Tum flywheel counterclockwise until dial indicator needle is approximately 1/4-turn beyond .462 in., then turn flywheel clockwise so that dial indicator reads 462 in. (11.7mm ) exactly.
      4. Reposition timing pointer (a) "if necessary' so that timing pointer is aligned with 462 in. mark on timing decal. Retighten pointer attaching screws
      “Straight from the manual “.

The little extender you mentioned 0:22 into the video, did that come with the kit or did you buy that separate. If separate, can you tell where you got it. Great video by the way. I watched and felt confident I can go time my 2.5 240 EFI

Sorry for the late reply. the little extension came with it.

I 3D printed an extender for my dial gauge. :)

For the newer 2.5 efi motors the heads are little fatter then original posters above. I had to order a 1-2 extension with this dial indicator. Just did this on my 96 200 efi motor.

Why did you have to reset timing?

What is the adapter part number? I have been looking for one but not having much luck.

I bought the whole kit which came with a few adapters from Amazon. Fowler 52-520-747-0 Timing Gage

@@ck7129 Thanks. I’ll check it out. I got a cheap dial gauge and was gonna knock the core out of an old spark plug and jbweld it in but never got around to it. Would much rather have a kit so I can use the dial for other stuff.

@@wmkess yea the other adaptor in the kit is even smaller. Assuming it fits lawnmower or weed eater size engines.
