- Justified is the tale of Raylan Givens, the Stetson hat-wearing, gun-toting cooler-than-cool US Marshal. Wherever he goes, he leaves a body count, because when he has to pull out his gun, he shoots to kill.
6 seasons and 78 episodes are enough to show us what Timothy Olyphant's character is all about. Along with Nick Searcy as Art Mullen, Walton Goggins as Boyd Crowder and Joelle Carter as Ava Crowder, Justified is a marvel of casting and scriptwriting.
This video is going to show you the little known facts about the show that takes no punches and shows no mercy.
Raylan Givens is reassigned from Miami to his childhood home of Harlan County in eastern Kentucky after he breaks protocol and kills a gun-wielding thug. He had promised to never return but alas now he has to face the wreckage of his past.
The show is created by Graham Yost and it's based upon a short story and a trilogy of novels that all center around the life and career of Raylan Givens. The show received extraordinarily high ratings and has amassed quite a fan base. Additionally, it has received numerous awards and has an 86 on Metacritic.

Hi
My favorite series of all time.
@@susiedurr9067, DITTO
I was hooked loved this series, i want more, I love all the characters but Raylan and Boyd equally, both the most charismatic characters who worked so well together, the ending was brilliant, not many series have a good ending but it could lead to more series im hoping.
Justified is One of the best tv shows of all time. Please do Longmire next.
I just finished the series. Walton Goggins portrayal of Boyd Crowder was completely captivating. As much as I liked Timothy Olyphant as Raylan Givens, Walton Goggins was beyond charismatic.
The directors figured it out very early...Goggin's Boyd was indispensable !!!
In my opinion no one could have played Raylan better. In 2012, I named my youngest son Raylan. I own all 6 seasons and love rewatching it.
Only one I can think of who could come close would have to be Anson Mount, who played Cullen Bohannon in Hell on Wheels.
My favorite show of all time..I also said if I ever had a son he would be named Raylan
Eric Stonestreet
@@cheefussmith9380 lol nice
@@speed150mph I agree. After watching hell on wheels series there were many times Cullen reminded me of raylan and justified
One of the best shows ever on TV .
Best neo western
Just finished my first watch of the series. So good. Gonna miss it
Absolutely
Second only to dexter
Yup, and I'm currently binging it again 😁
Raylan is #1 to me. But the entire recurring cast was outstanding from Tim to Art to Wynn to Loretta to Limehouse. Amazing job by all.
Limehouse!!! Mykelti Williamson was so perfect for that role!
When you finish this show you'll continually look for a show to be as good as Justified. You will fail.
What's your favorite episode of the show, Jemoore76?
Yes!! There will never be another like it. I just watch it over and over
@@FactsVerse Pretty much all of season 2. Watching Mags is like being mesmerized by a cobra.
Longmire came close.
Yes sadly you won't so I watched deadwood after this to get more of TO
That last scene with boyd and Rayland was everything
Completely agree. I watched the first couple seasons and picked up the last few later. I am so glad I did.
"We dug coal together."
Walton goggins lines were some of the best writing anywhere. I am a huge Tim Olyphant fan but these 2 playing off each other made the best chemistry. During a shoot out Raylan says to Boyd "your teeth glow in the dark".... that had to get a retake or 2 I'd bet.
Glad they're making another season. Hope they bring Walt in for a few.
“Wonderful things can happen when you plant seeds of doubt in a garden of assholes” was my favorite line. I’d watch it again and again.
To me, Justified is still my all-time favorite. It had all the right amount of humor, action, characters development, and storyline. The ending was the most satisfying wrap. Even down to the last conversation between Raylan and Boyde through the prison glass. That line "We dug coal together" brought tears to my eyes.
Sadly, the last episodes were rushed almost to being non-sensical. Far below serie's standard. Foolish things like let Boyd be seen, then be chased by helicopters, dogs and dozens of men. Let him go out of the cover against shooters who reliably performed under pressure for 6 seasons... and not be hit. And then let him teleport for the final shootout - sounds familiar? Here is one million dollar idea - how about not let him be seen if you want the shootout? Problem solved, send the money.
@@tomasmrazek8506 i actually felt that boyd was out of character the last season in many ways. Most profoundly when he killed the hillbilly after using his truck, boyd wouldn't have done that, he might have threatened but he would have taken another fellow mountain man's word he wouldn't tip off the cops. OR boyd would have just tied him up. No way he would have opted to kill the guy. That really tainted an otherwise great last season, (for myself). They did sort of bring it back around when they had the last scene between R &B
@@AtSafeDistance Yep, that too. But one might argue he was losing control and his violent side, that was passed to him by his father, finally took complete control.
I thought about the writers’ motivation for having Boyd kill the hillbilly. I thought it was a stroke of genius. Up until that point, we knew Boyd as dangerous but affable. This singular act reminded the audience that Boyd was a stone-cold killer. It swept away any illusions of what Boyd Crowder is all about. I felt that killing added intensity to the conclusion. Anyhow, that’s my view of it, although others are welcome to disagree.
Justified, one of my all time favorites, I only wish The charter who played his boss, the chief deputy of the office would get more credit in these return looks of justified. His role as Father figure/boss/ even loyal friend at times really added to the series.
Right? Like "Raylan, I really want you to succeed"
@@carlamarlene2927 Right! You get it too!
Considering he turned out to be a Qanon nutjob, I'm cool with him not getting credit.
@@chand911 he’s probably had his beliefs and way of thinking for most of his life, so if in your mind his personal life has to bleed over into his fictional characters and the “credit” the character should get, I guess you can move on from Justified as it celebrates a man such as him throughout its entirety
@@SwicksterJ you're conflating Nick Searcy's extreme political views with that of the character he plays, which is silly. Nicki has made statements about "deep state" which would directly put him at odds with the character he played. Political extremists, left or right, also tend to make terrible coworkers as they don't keep their shit to themselves.
I loved this show! Boyd was my favorite character because of his intelligence and the way he spoke.
Always using 40 words when 4 will do.
And the way he walked
I found myself more empathetic to Boyd than Raylen. And really enjoyed Boyd's vocabulary.
"I've been accused of many things, but being inarticulate ain't one of them." - Boyd Crowder
@@trenaesumter2902 & I really dig the ain't being in the sentence. I also really dig Boyd.
Justified was a great show, I have rewatched it over and over.

@@EricTheBroBean that money will go a long way in Mexico. Millionaire lifestyle. One of the best series next to Yellowstone
The writing was brilliant but what really made this show work was the casting of Olyphant and Goggins - I can't imagine any other two actors who could have played those roles better - AND the very wise decision to NOT kill off Boyd Crowder in the first episode, instead converting the character into Raylan's arch-nemesis.
I never get tired of re-watching the very first scene in Season One and hearing Raylan say, "He pulled first" - Right, it was justified. :)
What he 👆 said
💞👵
Jack Maverick the short stories also left Boyd Crowder alive also. Have you read the stories because they're great.
@@jameretief8327 No, I've read a number of his novels but not the short stories - thanks for the recommendation...God, that was a great show - although I actually wanted Boyd to get away in the end, ride off into the sunset with millions, just barely escape Raylan's grasp...oh well. :)
Jack Maverick maybe a TV movie like they did with Deadwood. Premise: Boyd escapes prison, Raylan goes after him, in the end Boyd seemingly is killed, last shot shows Boyd in a South American bar with a beard wearing a hat just likes Raylan's. Well a man can dream can't he?
@@jameretief8327 Works for me. :)
"Damn woman you only shoot people when they eating supper".

I don’t think there has been any series better than Justified. I love Raylan and Boyd, they made the show!!
It was so good! What was your favorite season, Michelle?
There have been many better series, but Justified was outstanding.
I think Longmire is a close 2nd to Justified
I love justified great show. But if U haven't watched "Banshee" yet have a look at that. It's pretty good
This show is Addicting!!! Can't stop!!! There is not a weakness in this show. WOW!
Great story telling, great acting, memorable dialogues, believable conflict...what is there to not like...terrific series!!!
I have to say my favorite villain was Robert Quarrels. Loved how he scared the he'll out of Wynn Duffy. Neal McDonough played a psychopath perfectly
That was awesome especially since Duffy is a sadistic and psychopath himself
@@Appalachianasshole41 Even Theo told Duffy in reference to the bounty on Quarrels. 200k alive 100k dead. If you know Bobby you'll take the 100.
He was definitely different 😂
Hot Rod Memphis but only because I loooooove the way Boyd says his name.
How did he didn't won an emmy for that?
I loved Raylan, but I absolutely adored Boyd. I am so glad he stayed on. His character was so nuanced.
We totally agree, Gayle!
Boyd is what you get when you mix good ol' boy common sense with a high IQ........and a drive to make money. Hell, all of the best capitalists are also sociopaths.
One correction: if you watch the interview with Goggins, he says that he didn’t want to play Boyd because he didn’t want to be another racist, and he was tired of where he came from being portrayed like that. He even stipulated that if he came on as Boyd he wanted there to be a moment when Raylan called him out on it, and told him that he know Boyd didn’t believe what he was saying.
Yup. Boyd was as much a white supremacist, as I've seen him described, as he was a Christian--for him, both were just cover stories.
He sure could walk the walk and talk the talk for both, though. Goggins was perfect in that role.
DEFINITELY BOYD. Too Cool. Too Smooth. Too Smart. Too Talented.
Loved him in this series. BRING IT BACK!
Yes Boyd was the best villain in tv history and Raylan was great, but you cannot forget the amazing acted characters like Dewey Crowe, Gutterson, Dickie Bennett, Winona, Art, Jonny Crowder, Ava, Wynn Duffy, Markham, Colt, Quarles, Mags, Devil, Wade Messer, hell even Constable Bob was brilliant. Truly great characters.
Absolutely!! Really sad it didn’t continue any longer. I would have watched it for years and years and years.
@@SouthernMelle what’s truly sad is the new show has some quality actors, some not-so-much, but the writing is so bad compared to the original show. I watch each episode and get mad at myself for watching it during the 10,000 commercial breaks lol. They did the original show no justice. It’s worse in every way.
@@buddhastl7120 I agree 🥲
People underestimate Bob at their own peril
One of my favorite characters besides Raylen and Boyd (Thank you for not killing him off)
Is certainly Art...he's the gift that keeps on giving.
One of my favorite series of all time. While Walt Goggins was a brilliantly cast Boyd, I favored Olyphant’s Rayland Givens. But my favorite characters were Rachel’s (Erica Tazel) diminutive pit bull character and bossman Art Mullen’s (Nick Searcy’s) one liner wit. He cracked me up every time. “You might wanna think about not gettin’ yourself concussed”. That line got me going for days!
...and "Let's start with winging..." when he held off the bad guys with his sharpshooter deputy (can't remember his name, but he was very cool!)
Raylan and Boyd...two sides of the same coin! One more step left and Raylan would have been Boyd. One more step right, Boyd would have still been Boyd. LOL
Raylan, not Rayland.
I hated to see Dewy Crowe go.
Eh, I beg to differ. His character got to be an annoyance. He was too stupid. He was great when he showed in reoccurring bits, but making him and his family part of the "main" cast in S5 was a horrible decision.
I can't even see there eyes really
Common Name!
love dewey!
It was a really strong way to open season 6 (I know it was like the second episode but still)
Justified was in that great period of time of shows for me. Along with Psych, Burn Notice and Person of Interest, it was excellent for prime time viewing
Definitely on my Top 10 all time tv shows.
Raylan was definitely my favorite character. Love this show! I’ve watched it over and over. It’s the best show ever.
What's your favorite episode of the show, Elaine?
This is the ONLY series (well, apart from Deadwood) where I can still watch enthralled and be thoroughly engaged by every single minute of it. Even if tired, exhausted, and sleepy, I never dozed off or micro-slept through any episode. Even though Season 5 for me was weaker than the rest, it still kept me awake. Same thing couldn't be said for any other thing I've watched
What's your opinion of Season 5? While it had its fair share of highlights, I found myself constantly annoyed how the blasted stupid Crowe family *ALWAYS* got the best of Boyd & Raylan. I feel like Season 5 would've been better if the main villain was actually smart and cunning, as they usually are.
@@ComedyBros5 I wasn't very fond of S5 mainly because of the Crowes too - they weren't as compelling as the other antagonists and I really didn't feel "invested' in their issues since I found them straight annoying and was just looking forward to them getting their just desserts. So there's a lack of empathy, plus the social worker romance seemed a bit forced and frankly, boring. But the overall journey and sub-plots made up for what the Crowes lack, so this season imo is still better than most of the other shows out there.
@@JadeCordova Agreed. I'm just thankful it really backed off of the overly gritty, dark tone it was setting up for in that first episode (that chainsaw torture bit felt so out of place)...and why the hell did they feel the need to splatter blood on Boyd's face 200000 times in this season?
It definitely could've done without Allison as a love interest, but then Raylan wouln't have been given much to do.
And even as annoying as the Crowes were, I still found the scene where Boyd brought them in to beat up them neo-Nazi's, the scene where Danny tries the "21 Foot Rule" with Raylan, and the Daryl & Raylan elevator chat after Daryl was cleared at the end of Episode 12 to all be really really well done. It's aggravating, because just a few tweaks in character elements would've made Season 5 just as good as the others.
@@ComedyBros5 Yep, those little bits - especially the 21' rule falling-on-your-own-knife death - were just perfect, very David Milch-y in an Elmore Leonard world, TO 's influence in Justified is sooo underrated.
I can't really blame Rapaport since I'm very sure TO brought him in (based on their Dinner for Five episode back in 2005) and at least the overall season arch was good. And this season had Eric Roberts - enough to balance out the little nitpicks I have too. Heh.
@@JadeCordova I agree. Honestly, that scene is one of my most favorite Justified scenes. All it was missing was a better "drive" behind Daryl's actions, and some charm/likeability to his all around character. That's all Season 5 needed!
Eric Roberts' cameo was indeed great. He's always like a breath of fresh air in everything he's in. And Art getting shot was such a great sequence.
Fans are always quick to dismiss Season 5 as terrible and unwatchable - but if you really step back and look at it, we see it's actually pretty good!
Plus, those final two episodes of Season 5 beautifully setup the incredible Season 6.
Raylan for sure but you have to love Boyed both have strong personalities, and that's what made this series awesome
It was an amazing show. However, it was meant to be a throwback show. He was an 1870s character set in 2015. The writing and acting was A+
Boyd was the best “bad guy” ever, in my opinion. Walton made you feel for Boyd and as the seasons progressed you can see his “spirt” become more and more jaded. But in the final moments you can see the real Boyd.
We're very happy to know that you're a fan of Boyd. Which episode of the show appealed to you the most?
Of course Raylan and Boyd were the stars of Justified, the character that I wished had gotten more screen time was Tim Guterson. His dry humor and playing off of Raylan was spectacular. If Tim and Raylan had been partners, the series would have only lasted three seasons. They would have shot all the bad guys by then. "But I don't miss"
Agree, Tim was awesome. "Boss, you might want to sit this one out, Even their dog is in the pound."
This show is the best! I have the entire series on DVD. Best scenes are between Raylan and Boyd. I love their banter. Wonderful writing! I watched The Unicorn recently and the lovely actress who played Winona is now Walton Goggins love interest. My first thought was "Now Boyd you know Raylan won't put up with you messing with Winona!"
My favorite character, mostly for the comedy he brought to the show, had to be Dewey Crow. From the first time Raylan smashed Dewey's face into the dash of his car I knew Dewey was in for a bad run in the show. I was a little disappointed when Boyd killed him.
And he lived with no kidneys :)
I was really surprised that the actor who played Dewey is a ridgey didge Australian. He’s in a show on STAN called “The Tourist”. Can’t miss him he’s the only bloke in a three piece suit and is a cop.
@@bearpitt he had four.
@@greyhoundfivemedia812 🤣🤣🤣
Tim was definitely my favorite. Needs to be a spin off show for him. Put him in a big city somewhere working law enforcement as the Kentucky boy he is. Give some references to Justified throughout the series, along with some Cameo appearances from Art, Rachel, and Raylan...maybe even Boyd. Not a continuation.....but just for nostalgia.
You called it. Great prediction.
"Justified" stands as The Best Series, Ever.
Thank you for such an excellent video with the great back'story'!

Archie Bunker Tony Soprano, Raylan Givens. 3 overwhelming TV roles.
Best line ever "The next ones coming faster!"Raylen Givens
For some reason I never knew the show existed until about a week ago and I've literally binge watched every second I've had free. I'm on the last season and it's become one of my favorite series ever. I loved him in the mandalorian as Cobb Vanth and I love his portrayal of givens. Honestly the entire cast of justified is just magnificent. What a fucking show man
Omg I just finished watching this for the tenth time. The greatest love story ever told Boyd and Rayland lol
I love this show. I've watched every episode twice. Gave it a few years between the two watchings. I loved every character. A lot of depth in all the characters. Not everyone is purely good or purely bad. Great dialogue.
Thanks for watching!
I've watched the entire series 5 times and it never gets old! Love both Raylan and Boyd! Loved how they both spoke and the stories.
One of the best TV Series I have ever had the pleasure of watching. Excellent cast. Raylan and Boyd, it doesn't get better than that.
I loved Raylan but it was the villains that made this show. Boyd, Duffy, Quarles (first 3 episodes were magic), Mags & Limehouse- brilliant writing.
Who else loves when Boyd puts his hands in his jacket pockets 😂
Boyd's silver touge captivated me from the start. I love this show. My grandpa's name was Boyd and I grew up real close to Harlen County.
My favorite line "It was in the glass"
Justified is one of my all-time favorite TV series. Right up there with The Americans, Grimm, Warrior, Dexter, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, Deadwood, Soprano's, Fringe, Bosch and True Detective.
And Longmire.
Loved them both…. Couldn’t imagine the series without either one of them. Both great actors. The entire show had a multitude of great characters and actors.

My wife and I binged on “Justified” like no other series. While we loved the characters of Boyd and Raylan, the supporting characters were all incredible. In the last season, we were so impressed with Loretta, the teenager who asserts herself and strives to be a kingpin of her own. Her dialogue was fantastic.
We're happy to know that you and your wife love Justified. In your opinion, what is its best episode?

Fantastic show. Boyd, Raylan, and Art were my favorites, by far. And all the villains throughout were perfectly "hate-able." 😀 Especially all the Crowe cousins.
What about Gutterson!
@@ComedyBros5 Absolutely. He was so straight, but dry humor was on point. Another favorite.
@@jonathandaniel7424 I'm thankful the writers finally started utilizing him more in Season 6. I loved the "buddy cop" bromance him and Raylan had in the final season. I feel like Justified missed some golden opportunities not doing that sooner, and if this show as to ever get picked up again, I feel like the only option would be to center it around Jacob Pitts as Gutterson.
Boyd Crowder is on my Mt. Rushmore of favorite TV characters of all time!
My all time favorite tv show. I just finished rebingeing them again. I always thought that a spinoff on Tim would make a good show.
Tim Gutterson was the unsung hero of this fucking show, and he damn well deserved a show
I loved it so much I recently re-watched the entire series. There has never been a great collection of quirky characters, brilliant non-stop dialogue, and cringe-inducing - the good kind - twists and turns. Then there's the best bad guy ever in Walton Goggins' Boyd Crowder and his brain-dead cohorts, incredible guest stars, and Timothy Olyphant as the best TV detective ever. And Joelle Carter as Ava Crowder. Wasn't a bad episode or dull moment in all of it.
One our very favorite shows. A while after we streamed season six we adopted a pair of rescue boy kittens. They were rescued from a field in rural West Virginia. Their names are Raylan and Boyd and their personalities match their names.
Love Walton Goggin's work
This is one of the coolest shows ever made!!!
Here is a rip-roaring fact for you. There were 6 seasons of Justified, not 5.
I had never heard of the series ( don’t watch much TV) until I saw season one at the local Goodwill.
Looked interesting; bought it; watched 3-4 episodes and I was hooked. Went to eBay and bought the whole series.
Raylan done by Tim is excellent. I’m a big fan of his now.
First saw W. Goggins in The Apostle. Thought he was excellent in that. The two characters intertwining the whole series was excellently done.

I never got to watch Justified when it originally aired. But for the last couple of years, I've just been so enamored of it!
The writing is just so well done and the acting is superb. Picking just one or two characters is almost futile. Raylan of course, and Boyd, but Dewey is such a rich vein. But then there's Ava and Tim and Arlo, Megs, Quarles and Limehouse and...it goes on and on! Great characters and great actors with lines like Ava's "Can you hear me now?" Or Guttersons "I can't carry a tune, I don't know how to shoot a basketball, and my handwriting is barely legible, but I don't miss!"
Or Tim; "I love this shit, this shit gets me hard!" Raylan: " Well, we've both been warned then!"
But by far "Outlaw life's hard, ain't it!?!"
A very deep, rich vein of gold!
Got the DVD box set for my birthday, well worth it. Standard DVD was less than $40. Just finished the last episode last night. So pumped to know it's coming back for an 8 episode run.

One of the top 5 series I've ever seen, and I'm 70.
We're glad to know that you love the show. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. If we may ask, which episode did you like the best?
The Stetson Marshall is around $145 and it's a close replica of the hat in the show (there are some differences, and it's the one damaged in the series finale). But the hat used in the show is made by Baron Hats and a replica of that costs $1100.
Another little factoid is that the character of Mags Bennett was based on the life of Margaret Magdalene "Aunt Maggie" Bailey aka Queen of the Mountain Bootleggers who lived between Benham and Everts in Harlan County. My grandparents knew her.
I found it interesting when they showed mountains in the background of Versailles during the bank robbery. 🤣
Every Wednesday at 10pm on FX we never missed a episode. The best story telling and dialogue I have ever witnessed. We were very sorry it had to end but it happens.
I remember the show being on Tuesdays at 10:00.
Bring back Justified with Raylon as the boss...My favorite series of all time. so many off the wall characters he dealt with..I"m sure Stetson's sales were great, he wore that hat well..
Exciting to hear that this show is coming back this 2022...fans didn't get enough of Rayland and Boyd and their cries were heard
I’m a huge fan of Justified. We needed twenty more seasons.
