Sending someone wide just by showing yourself in the mirror never gets old. I giggle just like you!
Sadly only the rookie servers (no reputation or rank needed) have any attendance. There are servers with required minimal reputation and similar combos, but no one drives there. Sometime the 20:00 feature 60 minutes race has some people in it, usually when it's GT3 around Nordschleife, Spa and similar.
BTW Raceroom some time ago adopted the FIA track limits, so white line and that's it :)
I like that rule then. It's clear. The race room penalty system for giving time back is perfect too 👍
I think Raceroom has seen a fair reduction in active players since LFM and others got more popular matchmaking for AC / ACC. I've been using Raceroom a lot as my entry into sim racing and love the actual driving experience but there's just not enough players.
Jim (the voice behind CrewChief) mostly races in RaceRoom. This is the first time I've seen / heard CrewChief used there so I'm pleased to see that all the recent changes are working as intended because we certainly don't want to make him mad 😬
No online experience can compete with iRacing as of now. Not talking graphics, ffb or other, only online ranked system. Well driven tho Dave!
Just wish we had better graphics, ffb polling rate, UI, and hot tyre modelling
I absolutely disagree. The FFB is "fine", would be nice with less osculation.
But iRacings ranked races are terrible. I'm constantly put in lobbies where either people are significantly slower or significantly faster than I am, they intentionally wreck all the time, and I've recently been getting put into empty lobbies where it's only me driving.
I think either leagues or LFM ranked Assetto Corsa have been the best experience so far.
LFM and iRacing do things better than the other. I highly suggest if you're new to sim racing to try everything if you can.
@@katanamd if you drive the popular series, you will not be matched with "significantly slower or faster" drivers, you will be matched with drivers right at your level and few sims can match that as they simply dont have the same playerbase that iracing has. if you end up with empty lobbies, why in the world are you racing an unpopular series then? theres more than enough highly popular series you can chose to race in.
to me, assetto corsa is rather dated by now in almost all aspects, multiplayer, netcode, physics, ffb, all meanwhile iracing constantly improves, brilliant rain model, unrivaled endurance events, a huge amount of popular series that would never be played in any other sim. of course a league can be good in any sim but most people arent interested in leagues and even those who are, people always lose interest over time. Leagues can also have huge talent gaps between drivers
@@katanamdthen you are certainly one of the few. I’ve had zero issues with matchmaking once I got IR to about where my skill level is.
One of the best intros ever… (the short one before the channel intro)🥰🤗 MX5 is the best in all of the sims. So much fun!! Have a good week, Dave. 👋
Raceroom got a lot harsher with offtracks after the latest tyre physics update, but at least it is unified across all tracks. Curbs are not part of the track, white line is the edge, if you cross it with all 4 wheels, you get offtrack, no ifs or buts. Sometimes it is annoying, especially since iRacing is pretty forgiving in some corners, counting curbs as track. But you cant say you dont know where the edge of track is, ever. :)
Yep, I like that rule if it's the same for all tracks 👍
@@davecamm it is, indeed. You can sometimes see it explained in the loading screens. There should be no exceptions at all.
Looked like several incidents where Dave would still have had 2 wheels inside the white line. Would love to see the external cameras on those...
@@RacingAnt i sometimes have that feeling as well, but my replays show a few millimeters out of bounds. So yeah.
I wouldn't like that at all. Curbs are there to be used.
Another high quality video, keep it up!
I’m a massive iRacing fan but far out the cockpit of the Mazda here just pops so much more!!! Makes you realise that although I’m use to it and find it perfectly acceptable, they should be doing better. With the new engine in the works, I’m expecting big things! 🥳
there is no new engine in the works for racerooom, trust me
Omg this video had me laughing out loud. We need more of this material Dave.
"Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity." --Hanlon
My guess is it was someone on a single screen with a controller and no crew chief who had no idea you were even there and was 'just playing a racing game'. 😂
That's some high quality racin' right there, yessir. Qual-i-teee.
Dave, you did the race during the free access, bc both car and track are paid under normal circumstances
Yes its free until 7th July I believe 👍
Nope! Free car and track . All the rookie server stuff is.
@@Bigbluemeanie44 check the store, when It's rookie it doesn't mean that is free, usually it's not
it is free now, bc of free access period
MX-5 and Hockenheim are both paid content. You can drive them for free during the current promotion period.
Adding onto that (although I'm a bit late), during free periods standards are worse than usual, normally races are as clean as you'd see on any sim, really.
I have a lot of time for Raceroom, I make sure to try and qualify well to get up the grid away from notice folks trying a free game and controller in hand, the new BMW DLC recently added is fantastic, Raceroom for me needs wet weather, night races and just more sim racers in lobbies for me its a hidden gem and just have to avoid those with less experience and race craft when you fine them out on track but as you saw they will get disqualified, great video thanks for giving Raceroom some air time
That #13 car was soooooo using a gamepad!!!!!!! 😄
9:30 its definitely a controller player who is on the chase cam trying to dive up the inside there haha
I agree with the funny accent man, track limits in RR is HARSH
Dave has the Sim-Cackles. Time for a holiday.
One of my favorite intros
Watching this race has made me have a Whisky
Graphics are way better than iRacing. Im only in week 7 of my iRacing journey and im pretty quick and consistent for not having any sim racing experience, but the racing in the video is actually way better than the 1400-1500 rating race carnage I’m in. Come down and see what those are like these days. 🤪 iRacing need to introduce age brackets.
t. Coste was the nemesis, not M. Homan
Hey, Dave. I'm too stupid or lazy to set up iracing properly for my triple screen, that's why I love my raceroom. Not enough riders is often a problem, that's true.
Takes less than 15 minutes to configure triples in iRacing. That includes measuring all the distances, screen sizes and angles. One of the easiest and most intuitive sims to configure for triples.
Raceroom doesn't even have proper triple support without having to use Surround. I refuse to use surround amd as such haven't touched RRE in years.
@@robcampbell6099 I have AMD RX 7900xt and 3x 1440p monitors, and I use AMD Eyefinity. I think it works well like in AC, ACC, AMS2...
@@RacingAnt OK, maybe it's time to try again.
It's like a drunk practice session in iRacing
I gave up raceroom for that exact same reason
yeah the laptimes showing up for everyone was a bit of a spook for me when I first experienced it. after a while you learn to tune it out but god did it throw me off the first time I seen it
Car 13 was playing on a keyboard by the looks of it
Based on the car movement I guess 13 is a keyboard user. Definitely no spotter. Also, reputation (safety rating) 60 if I heard correctly, which is very very low. Normally if you drive few races safely its not a problem to keep reputation around 90.
btw: It's a bit silly to judge the sim based on one race on rookie server during the free access period. Races in Raceroom are probably a bit rougher than in iRacing, but that's also because the contact is quite forgiiving and you don't need to leave 2m around everyone in case of some netcode shenanigans like you have to in iRacing. I've had plenty of good races in R3E, including the special 60-144m multiclass events with ton of traffic, pitstops etc.
@@panvlk I think this was fairly typical of those rookie races on Raceroom tbh. I didn't really think it was even that bad, I just expect a lot of mistakes in the rookie races.
@@braveheart4603 Yeah, it's not rare to have some very inexperienced people in rookie races, and that's fine. Usually with a weak field you can qualify in front, drive away and have some good battles with few of the more experienced guys who are there most of the time as well. Starting from the back on rookie race during free access period is just asking for trouble.
8:40 #13 silver car driving with a keyboard
Idk what server you joined but most likely you join the rookie or no requirements server. In that case it's best to qualify and start as high on the grid as possible, that way you will drive against much better drivers.
most people drive in rookie servers because they are almost always full, but you can get decent amount of drivers in AM and/or PRO servers too sometimes.
also I recommend configuring OtterHud for better hud elements.
if we exclude iRacing, in my opinion RaceRoom has one of the best online ranking system. and also no monthly subscription cost.
NOICE!
Fun to watch, but think I'll stick with iRacing. 😆 Thanks Dave
I do believe there is no spotter by default. So people don't know when cars are on there left or right.
Plz do some racing in BTCC Rf2 ! Really fun
Do you think it would help player base increase if it were added to the likes of LFM?
Following up on an older video Dave ... would you still recommend 27" flat QHD monitors? "Answering a frequently asked question... | Why I use 27" triple monitors for Sim Racing?" 2yrs ago.
You never covered why you wanted flat over curved. Maybe you could refresh the video if your thoughts have changed now in 2024? if not, can you perhaps post thoughts on why flat over curved here? I'm thinking 32/34ish and curved. 100% agree about 1ms max and QHD.
This makes iracing rookies look like A class drivers 😂 my personal opinion, #13 was on a controller ??
Yeah! This is what I always think of when people complain about driving standards being shit.
Every day is week 13 on RaceRoom.
So sad. I’m a huge fan of Raceroom but as has been said, in terms of attendance it’s a barren wasteland most of the time. And when you do get some numbers the field spread is often massive so as a lower rated player you invariably end up driving round on your own.
Hi Dave nice video, thanks, but you’re forgetting the one service you pay for now with all the NetCode issues they are having ? Also you are in a walled garden, since you usually always in top split. But even in your races and others streams I watch it’s been just as bad! if not worse than this race? now were not even talking about lower splits 😢 As usual thanks for the entertainment.
Any reason you’re using a formula wheel with the mazdas?
Because I was too lazy to stand up and grab my other wheel. True story 🤣
Your comment “there’s a reason it’s free to play, can’t charge for this shit” really makes no sense. The reason that shit is happening is because it’s free to play. But it’s also a gift to all of us that something like is even free to play to begin with. The competitors aren’t free to play. One isn’t even a 1 time charge it’s a monthly subscription. I play iracing and haven’t actually played racingroom but I’ve downloaded it (then stopped the download but it’s in my library). I can’t justify playing it when I already have the better version for racing. But I think it’s really important that stuff like this is actually free. The game is great. What is available is amazing. The average community is terrible. But it’s a fuckin good game for being free
I agree 100%
Most of the content isn't free. Base package is way more limited than iRacing's. Agree that the sim is good, but on-line (particularly in my timezone) is plagued by empty grids. Most I've seen in a race was 5 cars 😢
@@RacingAnt but you can get all the content for like 60€ in a summer sale as a one time buy when you use the vrp store to save even more. But it is a little harder to figure out. I have done that last year when it was more popular. Too bad they are not really doing stuff to keep more people. The ranked experience is not very good but after the tyre update the feeling in the wheel is amazing. I think it is the most communicative out of all the Sims I played so far.
I now only play raceroom in a community. Haven't been in ranked since new year.
At 8:30 is overtaking under yellows not prohibited in sim racing?
It is, but nobody really adheres to it. If you hold off you just get overtaken.
I absolutely love the way R3E drives. I love their version of the MX5 and I think that anyone who wants to become a sim racer should be forced to drive that thing as it teaches you so much about momentum, weight shifting and general car control, but..... The online system is just dead. The only lobbies with people in them are for any skill level to drive which means you get aliens at the front disappearing into the distance, and absolute idiots (like car 13) behind ruining other peoples races by using other cars to brake and turn in Gran Turismo / Forza style.
It's a crying shame as the sim gets a hell of a lot right. You can drive side by side without random netcode killing you and it runs pretty well on a lower end PC. The FFB is good, and the content (if you like touring cars) is unbeatable.
It really needs LFM support, or something similar.
I really wante to love Raceroom but i sucked at finding the downshift points and the track limits were unforgiving.
Track limits are pretty harsh, but consistent. Racently all the limits across all tracks were redefined to be the white line. Once you are past it with all 4 wheels, you get an offtrack.
13 looks like he's driving on a controller...
I have too many racing games like most people, and was thinking, iRacing really has all of the features of the other games except graphics and modding. So I stick with iRacing now.
mobil 1 kurve is harsh in every sim
It's a popularity issue. Raceroom needs more people to move over and populate the lobbies that require higher safety ratings.
Not sure what it was, maybe game volume but sounded like you were shouting in comparison to the usual iRacing videos
guy @ 9:00 clearly using controller
I thoroughly enjoyed RaceRoom for a week or so. Then I realized people only race the same cars and trucks over and over and over. Zero variety. Too bad because it's a solid sim
Lots of Verstappen fans in this one. Cant turn left three times into a right hander with a car on your left.....😂
It's like buying ACC,.going into public race, no practice and demand a steam refund
Iracing has the worst driving standards...except for all the others.
Dave you are really biased here.
Try a race at oulton or summit etc. in Iracing with low SOF you will see the same racecraft…
I'm not at all. If racing is poor I'll say no matter what the sim
Raceroom drives nice and from time to time you can have decent racecraft but often you feel like you are in forza. 😂
Iracing has transcended the sim genre itself. Amazing accomplishment by the makers of Grand Prix Legends
the game is good in single player for practice but nothing else as online etc are shocking just a crash fest
free week is just a waste of everyone's time. You will not get a good race. once the crash kids have f'd off again it will be fine.
This game looks terrible
Iracing is overrated, there's better sims with better physics and better anti cheat. People have just invested so much money into Iracing that they can't justify moving on. They gotta get their money's worth now that they are a few thousand dollars in the hole!
A lot of I-racers that aspire to race IRL could have built a shitbox track car with all of the money they invested into i-racing.
Iracing offers the best online racing atm, so.....
You sound like iRacing never has bad drivers (there are so many you can't count them all). I have no idea what you have against Race Room to say you would want your money back) I guess one bad apple in your eyes spoils the bunch.
I've never said there aren't bad drivers on iRacing. Not once 😳
Did you watch the race? I have nothing against race room at all and I say numerous times in this video I'm a fan of the sim and the content.
Tell me you only read the video title before commenting, without telling me you only read the video title before commenting
That’s why I racing has the numbers, the full servers. Even though the netcode is horrible, ffb is avg, tire model 😑 physics 🫤 I’m hoping LMU will venture into more than WEC. RF2 is on hold until LMU is profitable. The competition has finally made irwcing talk about their new gaming Eng,(current one is 15+ yrs old). Rennsport, for whatever reason they’re on the slow boat
Ffb in iRacing is accurate. It relays the forces acting on the steering components. So, a real life car with dead steering (GT3s and 4s) will give you very little information about what's going on. Hence, all the complaints about ffb. AC uses canned effects (i.e. it adds ffb) to let you feel oversteer and understeer. Guess it comes down to what you want from the sim. Tyre model and physics I don't have a problem with. I'm not saying they're perfect, but then neither is any other sim. They all have issues. Yep, looking forward to the new game engine. It would be good to use more than 4 of my cpu cores...
