Swimming in the pool during a storm in the Caribbean is not a good idea. look out for lighting. Caribbean folk say indoors . you never know when a roof may come flying in your direction during a storm.

I’ve been in Martinique for the last 40 days. Here’s the good and the bad-
The bad-
It’s expensive. A pound of chicken breast is 20 Euros at the market
There is very little fresh fish. Chinese factory ships have decimated the fisheries and you will find the fish cleaning stations in every town abandoned and only frozen fish in the market
There is little produce to be had other than bananas and 6 Euro a pound apples despite the fertility of the island
Downtown Fort De France and every other town I’ve visited has few restaurants, bars or shopping. All the towns I visited have no life at night and nowhere for tourists to go. Many seem shuttered.
You cannot ride a bike or walk comfortably around Martinique. The roads are narrow and dangerous for walking or riding a bike with no sidewalks A car is a necessity.
The Good
Incredible nature. Fantastic, uncrowned beaches. Great hiking opportunities but many of the trails don’t have switchbacks so you have to be in great shape to use them. Good surfing and warm water to do it in.
The locals are incredibly friendly and polite
There are some incredible bakeries that offer affordable sandwiches and French delicacies
The rural landscapes are incredible.
The crime rate is low
Thank you for the notes! Those roads are definitely narrow. I’m surprised every time I see someone riding a bike. Next time I’m going to do fat tires on the beach! 🏝️ I hope the rest of your stay is awesome!
