There aren’t too many gaming franchises that go as far back as 1996 but Tomb Raider is one of them and here I am, 26 years later and still enjoying Lara Croft’s adventures as the Raider of Tombs!

I finished this game today. Epic gave it for free a couple of weeks ago. I've really enjoyed it a lot.
Just purchased the definitive edition with all 3 games for $20 and I love playing shadow! Soo refreshing from playing FPS games, the adventure is epic
The one shot from Shadow of the tomb raider. That one shot which made the character so cool. The one shot where she emerges from water with firey background is so lit.

I liked Shadow the best of the new trilogy (better mix of platforming and puzzle with combat), but I can't say I really loved any of them. Playing Tomb Raider I & II on the PS1 was one of my most memorable gaming experiences ever (and I was already in my early 20s at the time). I loved the lonely feeling of exploring ancient tombs, the precise platforming, the sudden burst of music when in combat. I'm hoping the new one will be more inspired by the original ones rather than the Uncharted style games, as these clearly were.

We’re on the same level Zane. Totally agree about all the Tomb Raider reboots. Decent enough games but the originals charm was missing and instead, modern day RPG mechanics were shoe-horned in.

Shadow Of The Tomb Raider is my first ever Tomb Raider game and I love it. It kind of annoys me that the game seems to be so hated.
Ive played and beat them all as they were released and Shadow was my favorite of the trilogy. I might replay them all soon.
@joeyisabsb1 I played and loved TR 2013 and Rise. Naturally i bought Shadow at launch but when i started it for some reason I just couldn't get into it. I think it was the transition to a more stealth based game that turned me off. Well this past weekend I finally decided to give it a second chance and I'm absolutely loving it. And even being a last gen game it still looks amazing.

My old gtx980 couldn't handle it in 2018. So I am doing it now in 2023 with my rtx4070ti in 4k, and it is a blast! I am glad I waited. It looks amazing!
Has some jaw droping moments graphics wise.

The technical level in some points is awesome as well. Makes me salivate about The Witcher 4.
I purchased this a year ago and haven’t played it yet. I am currently playing Alan wake 2 and am planning to play this after my Alan wake experience.

I prefere Rise over Shadow.
Rise has a much better environment with cold abandoned Soviet bases/work camps/prison, research labs and the tundra wildlife.
Shadow has the Inca Paititi town but I don't really like hanging out around that place.
I have finished Shadow a few days ago on my PC but then I deleted the game.

now I started playing Rise again.
and the exotic animals in Rise are much cooler as well . especially fighting against the giant brown bear.
basically what I'm saying, the combat is why I play Rise over Shadow. there is much more combat present in Rise over Shadow. sometimes going back to a previous hub area and kill enemy Trinity soldiers on patrol and loot their dead corpses is why I love Rise over Shadow.
Shadow has more stealth but not really by much. Shadow has more puzzles. Rise has ok puzzles but combat is the main dish. and I love the combat. you basically feel like Rambo in Rise. one man army slaughtering everything in your path as Lara.
Respect what you like but I love shadow more. I was gonna replay rise since it’s been years but shadow came to game pass so thought I’d give it a try so yeah I recently started playing shadow and I feel the combat is better than rise. It’s so much fun stealth killing everyone around enemies then them panicking because the disappearing. Plus better puzzles. The caves are creepy with those creatures lol. Plus it’s the one out of the 3 when it’s her turning point of becoming the og Lara Croft. Idk not shitty on what you like at all but being in a jungle and story it’s just beautiful
I thoroughly enjoyed the "dynamic camera angles making your stomach fall out your arse!"

@@Smoothgrooves I actually disagree with that, they're all good, competently made games but Shadow actually felt the most like classic Tomb Raider than any of the others in the reboot trilogy. Grander sense of exploration, less emphasis on combat, more platforming/puzzles, introduction of underwater sections, and elaborate tombs that make you think how to solve them.

I've always thought the PS1 Tomb Raider's were simply unplayable. I beat the first rebooted Tomb Raider 9 years ago and thought it was incredible. I'm finally about to play Rise in the Tomb Raider and then Shadow.
Those Ps1 tomb raiders were gems of their time
@@snake2106 I really wasn't a fan of early 3D action/platformers of the 5th Generation of video game consoles. I also loathe the tank controls that were used in Tomb Raider and Resident Evil games. Outside of Mario Kart 64, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, and some PS1 JRPGs I like that generation even less today. To each their own.
@@TheItalianTrash Thats why i said they were gems of their time, i grew up playing these Resident evil and tomb raider games with tank controls and at that time they were really popular games. Its totally understandable if you grew up playing games with modern controls and better graphics, you will not find these games ur cup of tea at all.

My rating of the new/latest trilogy of TR games.
TR 2013 - good (7/10) I missed the old parts like more puzzles, but after playing the 2013 and later the previous trilogy (legend, anniversary and underworld) I understood why this direction was chosen.
Rise of the tomb raider - I like it a bit better good plus (7.5/10)
Shadow of the tomb raider definitive edition - it is said that some tombs were kept as part of season pass they should be in the game from the start, but as a whole I liked more puzzles, adding stealth (though AI was not great). My score very good with small minus point (8-/10).
I can't wait for another Lara Croft adventure!

For me, the 1st one was great. The 2nd was better than the 1st and the last in the trilogy is easily the best of the 3. Just my humble opinion.
I do miss the lengthy tombs of the older games.
I loved shadow, it is my favorite.
Shadow of the tomb raider is amazing the best graphics and the best balance of combat and exploration. The amount of tombs and crypts you can explore is great. The Mayan atmosphere is always present with great music score , ambience music. Still holds pretty well after its release.
just bought the definitive edition version for 40 bucks, so far the game is good, too bad it was released during the most packed year of gaming history. i mean MH World, Red Dead Redemption 2, God of War Reboot, and Dragon Quest XI, four best gamea of ps4one era
Honestly, I personally really enjoy the reboot trilogy. I was surprised when they added those BRUTAL death scenes 😂 but I found the games and puzzles very fun.
Played all three games with my mum. Great bonding moments honestly
I’m pretty new to the Tomb Raider franchise with the remaster of 2013 as my introduction. I enjoyed the first 2 games but Shadow for some reason to me wasn’t that fun. There was many times I would just put the controller down and not touch it for hours, just to pick it back up later while sighing

@@aspect359 At the time it was good and the remaster has sorted some issues the game had back then. But i wouldn't play it today it feels sluggish and the guns don't feel right and i didnt like the puzzle's element it had. But i am more of an old school gamer like the classic doom and serious sam fast paced but what looks good is trepang 2 and i liked the demo but its nothing stunning to look at more like the classic fear game

i think i''ve outgrown this series. Playing for an hour makes me too sleepy let alone solving a puzzle. The serotonin just doesnt hit anymore. Probably of how linear it is compared to other ones
I'd never played a Tomb Raider game till the 2012/13 reboot, and I was then 55 years old! I enjoyed Rise, but I really found wossisface (Konstantin) and his sister so creepy, and it was pretty brutal and a shame for those people in the geothermal valley.
It is Shadow and the first one that are my faves - I'm pushing 70 now, and they don't send me to sleep at all!

Rise of the Tomb Raider had a better setting and story. Shadow of the Tomb Raider is the better game with more refined mechanics and a graphics boost. The intro mission in this game is awful. Starting the game with a "walk and follow" mission is poor compared to Rise. And i agree with the Jungle theme gets old after a while. I much prefer the snow setting to be honest. Ghost of the Tomb Raider also had some weird glitches and bugs that as of yet still not fixed. And lets be honest: The side missions is brutally boring. Lots of fetch quests from kids and stuff. I zoned out completely from doing much of those.
Negatives:
-Lara character model was changed once again, they didn't stay consistent with her design in the trilogy, she got uglier with each game.
-Stealth combat is heavily scripted, you have to do it as the devs intended, no to freedom to take enemies in different ways, the attack prompt is way to generous, you can take enemies down from far away. gun combat feels weird and enemies just run straight to your gun.
The only flood with crystal clear water sequence as terrible.
Neutral:
-Puzzles are ok at best, not too challenging, again it feel that to solve the you have to follow the script if that makes sense
-Music isn't memorable, its decent enough.
Positives:
-The outfit variety is good and you can play as the old character models and the first Lara in the trilogy is great, a classic outfit for modern Lara would've been nice.
-Visuals are also great, the ambience and tombs look stunning, most if not all character models are well done and animated.
-Cut scenes are mostly great.
My score 6/10

Combat was OK any way you slice it, whilst stealth was very badly done, with insta spotting, whole base immediately alerted and everyone knows where you are.
Can't really agree on the skill of not pressing a button - very welcome addition to the button mashing galore of the previous one, also there is a setting that disables mashing whatsover - good efing riddance.
Other than that its very fun game.
While I liked the video, Idk what the problem is with a gay romance in a sequel or what kind of agenda it pushes. TBH considering how sexualized the character already is, it makes sense that she wouldnt just be straight.
Why does that make sense exactly ? Why cant we just have a straight Lara ? Past devs have never included any hint at all shes gay/bisexual and Im pretty sure the guy whom created Lara didnt feel the need to push that oh so 2023 diversity box ticking nauseating agenda. In oast games shes flirted with male characters, not women. Its telling that today, having a straight male/female character feels fresh/unique and going against the grain. Its ok for RPG games though as most you can pick ur gender and romance whom you can choose. Id have zero issue if they put that option in a Raider game. Just dont force it into a linear narrative that doesnt need it.
@Mark Walch Well, there have been many Lara Croft entries since the first one and they haven't all been the same character. I'm not really sure what's "nauseating" about her being gay or bisexual. It just makes sense to me because she was pretty popular with lesbian gamers and if they want to make her a very sexual (which they obviously don't have to), it would be interesting to have her be flirty with men and women.... yknow, gay people have existed before 2023 right?

Its nauseating because nowadays its an agenda ticking trend to take well known established characters then diversify them to keep up with whats currently cool and trendy. Christ! They put pressure on Barbara Brocvoli to make James Bond bisexual. Her answer was a sten no. Not now not ever. He was written as a straight women loving character and hence he shall stay as thats his appeal. Same should go for Lara. If.....its to continue in a linear story telling fashion. Otherwise......
@Mark Walch yknow, the vast majority of fictional lead characters are still straight. They made the decision not to make James Bond bi, and these creators are making the decision to make Lara gay/bi. The Bond series also heavily features straight romance, whereas the Tomb Raider series does not. It's continuing a reboot of the series. I don't see what's wrong with this change? What agenda is being forced on you?

its a game you barley play. Its comes down to holding up on the joystick and REALLY easy combat. TONS of loading and cinematic traversal. (which means you do nothing almost more than you actively play.

The most useless game with useless glitches,The worst game ever.
Tedious fetch quests, broken game mechanics and frustrating boss fights made for an awful experience. This wasn't a Tomb Raider game, it was an Uncharted/Rambo/Indiana Jones mix of garbage. The reboot as a whole was ridiculous, they turned Lara into a killer and destroyed a video game icon in the process.
It's way too cutscene heavy. Uncharted is way better than any of the tomb raider games in every sense.
One of the most boring games you can ever play. It's nothing like the 1st one. I was falling asleep because the pacing is terrible and Jonah is so uninteresting as a sidekick. It's a terrible game. Lol I swear.

This is nothing against the cause of equality for everyone, it's just that the way they are doing it got kind of predictable.
Nowadays it seems the only way to fight for the cause is take a popular character and turn it gay.

had a lot of problems with stuttering and lag on pc. i was getting 10 to 15 fps, it was pretty bad. got it on ps4 and enjoyed it for the most part. i've always liked tomb raider, all 3 versions. but man if the leaks i've been seeing are true then it'll be a hard pass from me from now on, so tired of western game devs pushing all of this sjw progressive bs in all the franchises i love. even worse is that all of the people on twitter etc who attack anybody who has a problem with it, they don't even buy or play the games, and then developers are dumb founded when the games fail.
