  • In this video I'm showing a simple trick on how to properly take off and re-install bicycle pedals. It's very simple and easy to remember, just be careful with the threads :)

    really helpful video for non bicycle people, to remember the rotations direction. for people who in bicycles know, its wrong explained. the driveside pedal ( right side) has a lefthanded thread and the non drive side( left side) is righthanded threaded. means crosswise..right pedal- left handed , left pedal-right handed...
    or with other words, when you face the pedal ( equal which side) loose the pedal with rotate the tool in direction to the backwheel.

    Great video - especially the bit about Right & Left pedals having opposite threads - so tightening and loosening require different directions between the two pedals.

    Jeez just loosen towards the rear, tighten towards the front. Don't have to explain how the threads are reversed on one side.

    Thank you so much. Your video was very helpful. Change my factory pedals out to wider ones.

    If only mine were as easy to remove as that.

    I had a nightmare to remove a seized pedal from a dura ace arm. I finally managed to do it using a high torque impact wrench with an adaptor for allen key. Someting similar like the ones used in a garage. Just make sure that you turn it in the correct direction as it might destroy your crang... has over 1000Nm of torque..

    Thats not the only way to remember it. Pedals: R pedal - R hand thread, L Pedal - L hand thread. Explaining reasoning for why the threading on the majority of bikes is reversed on pedals, bottom brackets and some fixed gears on hubs would be better, that way if you forget, VISUALIZING how the bearing spins and puts an opposite spinning force on the opposing bearing surface will help you figure out which threading each component has. Hub bearings are all normal R hand threading because dropouts can't spin and axle nuts/skewer is tightened to dropouts so bearing cones cannot loosen. R pedal bearings spin counterclockwise, L pedal bearings spin clockwise, R bottom bracket bearings spin counterclockwise, L BB bearings spin clockwise. So visualizing the direction the bearing spins and knowing its opposing surface with spin opposite direction, even if you forget you'll figure out the threading direction on each component. On fixed gear hubs where cog is threaded on, the cog lockring is L hand threaded so when backpedling to brake (skid) the cog/lockring threads tighten together, cog being R thread, Lockring being L thread. Its all about visualization. Heck just google search it if you're confused, everyone has a smart phone nowadays. Just remember Italian BBs are R threaded both sides. How to figure if you have an Italian BB is a different story.

    just say the left pedal has left hand thread. you have confused a whole bunch of people

    • @anthonyscander959
      @anthonyscander959 Před 2 lety

      confused you
      Left Pedal = Left thread = TURN LEFT TO TIGHTEN (anticlockwise)
      Right Pedal = Right thread = TURN RIGHT TO TIGHTEN (clockwise)
      Easy L = L = L and R = R = R....
