    If you used another hammer and it worked fine, then that is great! You can definitely do so. A rubber mallet is gentler on the metal and decreases the risk of harming the bottle cap in the flattening process.

  • @beadaholique
    @beadaholique  Před 11 lety +4

    You can experiment with a hammer versus a rubber mallet, just make sure to have a dish towel or something between the hammer and the bottle cap so that the finish on the bottle cap is not marred.

    Hi, I have not tested this method on bottle caps that have actually come off a bottle. I would assume that it would work but you might run into difficulties if the bottle cap becomes misshapen at all during the removal process.

    I agree. There are bottle caps everywhere, lying on the ground. See a penny, pick it up. all day long you have good luck, and a penny. See some bottle caps, pick 'em up, make a charm bracelet, sell it for nine dollars. Buy a half dozen eggs, some juice, some butter & bread. You have dinner.

    Just an FYI
    If you are having trouble removing bottle caps from a beer or a soda bottle without bending or destroying the caps shape, learn to pop off a a bottle cap using a bic lighter or similar piece of plastic.
    Once you get it down its a very easy process... just hold onto the bottle with your top index finger near the bottom of the bottle cap, wedge the light inbetween your finger and the bottom lip of the cap. Clench your hand holding the bottle tightly and leverage the lighter or similar tool to pop off the bottle cap. The cap will have its shape perfectly intact every time. Note: this method does not work well for twist off bottle caps.
    If my explanation isn't good enough I'm sure there are plenty of youtubes out there to show you how to "open a beer bottle with a lighter".

    • @ryeweskey
      @ryeweskey Před rokem

      Put the square end of a key on the lid, then carefully use a bottle opener. The metal on top keeps the cap flat by dispersing the pressure over the whole surface. No damage to The cap.

  • @Nisafish
    @Nisafish Před 11 lety

    You will need a pair of flat-nosed pliers to fan out the crimped edges. Once the edges are facing outward, you can use the same process in the video to flatten the caps.
    The tops will be slightly bowed inward and not PERFECTLY flat, but they still look really cool. I've been making large mosaic pieces with bottlecaps (both recycled and bought), so trust me, I've had a lot of practice!
