These are all over ebay & I actually purchased this from a "Precious Metal" dealer!!! I ended up getting a refund so I will not give the name of the dealer. Please, check your bars. I purchased a 1 oz silver bar on eBay last year and it was fake, the first giveaway was that I had a hard time taking the bar out of the capsule that came in. Then I decided to take my knife and scrape the side of the bar and that's when I saw copper underneath that fake silver. Lucky for me that the seller reimbursed my money right away and apologized. It's getting really hard to trust anyone on eBay so I think I'm going to start buying my silver at my local coin shops.

This is why I stress so much on the importance of removing at least one of your genuine bars and handling it in your actual hand. Getting the feel of gold, feeling the weight, the density, the shape, size, color and texture. Someone who is familiar with gold will immediately realize there is something off there cause the fake bars are larger than the real, also thicker. Gold is very dense, and almost no metal can match its density, thus the fake bars will either be off on the weight if they have the right dimensions or will be off on the dimensions, thickness, width, length, if they want to match the weight. The color of the fake bars is also dull, gold has a unique luster to it. Dont know why people are so upsest with keeping the bars in the plastic. Gold is gold, gold will not go down in value cause its not in the plastic. Infact go and try selling one of those bars to a coin store. You will see the very first thing they are going to do is remove that gold, and test the actual bar. Some will go as far as drilling right into it. So if they don't trust the plastic why should you. Its total nonsense that you need to keep the gold sealed to maintain the value. The value is in the metal, not the plastic case. By now I can be blind folded and pick up two bars, xand let uou know right away which one is gold and one thats not.

So you had those bars for 6 months before you realized they were fake? I test everything I buy the minute I open the box. My testing kit includes the standard stuff - scale, calipers, etc. plus the Sigma Metalytics Precious Metal Verifier. It cost me $850 but it's worth every cent. I have a few clearly labeled fake bars and coins that I deliberately purchased as test cases to see if my verifier functioned properly and the verifier picks out the fakes every single time.
If you're going to buy bars and coins then you MUST have the tools to make sure they are real.

Super informative!! A friend of mine purchased a gold 1 ounce PAMP Bar for herself around 12/10/16. She called me, and was very upset because it was a FAKE 1 oz. PAMP GOLD BAR. She spent $1,246.00, plus postage (registered mail) for a PAMP 1 oz. gold bar. Guess what? She decided to sell the bar to a local coin dealer, and it was 100% fake! Of course she is trying to get her money back, but nothing is happening...If ANYONE IS BUYING GOLD OR SILVER TAKE TIME TO LOOK AT VIDEOS SUCH AS THIS!!! Great Video!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you

I am sorry about the scam you went through I hope you have resolved that issue or press charges on the seller for economical terrorism.

dealt a lot in coins and bullion, and never got held up except on Ebay...
the last and final time was by the company; they said, "list for free"
and then sent a bill and demanded payment.

*WHY* would you even buy gold or silver on *EBAY?!?* lmao that just screams scam. cmon now, when i drop serious money on gold/silver its gonna be from a reputable know dealer/mint thats been around for years. Yeah you may have to pay 5-10$ more but thats totally worth the quality assurance. and beside by the time enough time has passed to make good product on your investment, or shits hit the fan and the monopoly money the banks give out dont mean shit anymore that 5-10$ will be a drop in the bucket.

Sorry to hear you bought fake bars. You have mentioned several ways to tell a fake but another way to tell is the serial number on the back of the card and on the bar should be made up of dots, not a solid line making up the numbers.

Au Rebel Yea, I know these things now, but these were my first & only bars of gold. Lesson learned & I hope some of the other people who have bought these now know what is going on.

I truly am sorry that you were taken advantage of but have confidence in ebay to make it right. I always buy from reputable sources like APMEX, Provident which I'm sure you already know. Well anyway keep us posted on them returning your money. Take care.

I'm so sorry about this when it happened. that's why for me, I only buy coins and I buy from apmex. I don't really trust ebay because I been hearing a lot that there are fraud sellers that sell fake anything on that site, not just precious metals.

buy from the sellers listed below and then test by cutting into the edge of the silver austrailian coin or other coins and bars to see the copper or brass under the silver plating

Never understood why people keep the identity of people that screwed them concealed even if they refunded your money BECAUSE they were busted. Honestly, anyone that's been around precious metals for some time, and certainly any dealer, can tell these are fakes. If he's purporting to be a precious metal dealer as you state, chances are, this seller had hundreds, if not thousands, of these and sold them to unsuspecting buyers. So of course he's going to refund your money, because in all reality he can be sued for fraud for far more than he refunded you.

I'm curious why you would go through eBay to buy gold instead of more reputable e-commerce websites...
