  • How can accepting this moment improve our relationship and our health? Tolle explains the concept of a "pain body." A pain body is where our suffering comes from and includes past suffering, not just our own personal past suffering but also the past suffering of humanity. To overcome pain, it helps to realize that our pain isn't personal; instead it comes from the pain body.
    In addition, there is a collective pain body that comes from sub-populations by race, geography, gender, etc. For instance, women have an extensive pain body because of past sufferings in history and it especially is present right before menstruation. He explains how to live in the now by surrendering and accepting it. Now and life are one; there is no life outside of now. Once you live in the present moment, letting go of a narrative full of anger or resentment, you open yourself up to healing.

    I love the distinction between surrendering to the illness and surrendering to the current moment in which I am experiencing whatever pain or experience. It can be very remarkably healing to take this approach. Eckhart is a very wise dude. :-)

    I don't find that moving my mind into the future causes fear necessarily for me. I think of it as excitement -- it depends on the future I am mentally creating. I agree that the ability for being fully present is incredibly powerful, but I think the idea that some might get from this that you should not think of the future or past would be a mistake.

      If you havent read the book, he clearly explains that we obviously need to think of the past and future from time to time in order to operate, but the excessive thought isnt really beneficial. The book is brilliant.

      Robert Taylor I've read the book and it is very good. He does say that in the book, but I'm not commenting on his book. :-)

      but if you think of the future of as exciting you neglect your present and create some kind of "I will be happy if that and that happens". thats the illusion

    • @wealthychef
      @wealthychef Před 8 lety +2

      Not necessarily. It's possible to think the future is going to be awesome and still fully appreciate the present. I reject any sort of clinging to "now is better than then" just like I don't buy that "the future is going to be better than now."

      In Dante's Inferno there is a scene where Dante and Virgil are taking the ferry across the river into hell. Dante notices that everyone is smiling and excited. Dante ask Virgil why everyone seems so happy to being going to hell. He responds that in hell, fear becomes desire. They are two sides of the same coin.

    I just saw a video of a young woman being raped in a truck by Hamas terrorists in 2023. I had such a painful and intensely sad reaction to a video, nothing like I have ever experienced before in 30 years, that I am here now trying to figure out what is going on me

    Has anyone here experience the oneness, connectedness, consciousness that we're are? No matter how much present, awareness I have in the Now, I can't seem to experience this. When I'm present, I maybe feel a bit of peace and relax but that's it, nothing else.

    • @AlexanderDanje
      @AlexanderDanje Před 6 lety +2

      Maybe you expect it to be A Big Thing. I'd say it's very common, simple, uneventful, but the point is it that the peace and relaxment gradually never leaves, whatever the experience may be. Simply put: Peace is ever present - no matter what.
      Do you know how rich a day can be from that? I don't.

      Yes, I've experienced that two times. I understand what he means with enlightenment because the feeling of the experiences were very light, peaceful and energized. They lasted only one or two seconds, but they were probably the most impactful events of my life and still work as a relief against the suffering of life. I've become a happier person since the events, and along with listening to lectures or tapes like this.
      So he's not talking shit 🙂

    You can tell she is merely waiting for him to stop talking so she can talk. She isnt "listening", therefore, Im reluctant to believe she read the whole book because of this.
