__________________________________________________________________
The Fryette Power Station® - a new amplifier attenuator and re-amplification solution, offering players intuitive and precise control over amplifier volume, distortion behavior and a wide range of highly refined tonal qualities previously unavailable from any single attenuating or re-amping product.
Built on decades of experience producing the finest all-tube power amps available, the Power Station is a practical and highly functional tool that solves problems frequently encountered in live playing and recording environments. It beautifully accentuates the inherent qualities of any amplifier and allows your amplifier to breathe and dynamically respond to your playing technique the way a great guitar amp should. The Power Station is designed to be transparent, user friendly, reliable and ultra-responsive to a wide array of guitar amplifier and speaker types. It also integrates seamlessly with any combination of internal and external speaker configurations.
The Power Station also excels as a power booster, something that no passive attenuator can do. Just as you would connect a big amp to reduce output volume, the Power Station can also be used to boost the output of a small amplifier. Imagine taking your mini-amp or small vintage combo to a gig and having enough power to be heard without sacrificing feel and tonal quality. It is not only possible, but easy and fun!
Finally, your Power Station functions as a versatile silent reactive load for direct recording by simply connecting the Balanced or Unbalanced Line out to your recording interface.

Finally a clearly structured and focused explanation. Thank you. Great stuff from Fryette.
Excellent video! Clear and concise comparison of the PS-2 and the PS-100. The Fryette responses in the comments section show the quality of customer support this company believes in. BTW, Loving my PS-100!
Great job talking about these devices. Well done.
Thanks for the detailed explanation of each unit.
Very neat, glad to see some videos from you guys. I love my GP/DI for bedroom rocking but have thought about picking up a Power Station to give it an effects loop and make it louder for the audience I like to pretend to play for, lol.
i feel you, man! 🤣
Ive been using a PS-2 for a few years for most all activities requiring my amps (gigs, rehearsal, practice) and I could not be happier with this device. Ive used attenuators for many years to manage stage volume and this is really the first and only load box that is totally neutral and flexible. The effects loop is the bonus as delays can be after the power amp now (clean delays, reverbs, chorus) rather than in front of the amp. Yeah, occasionally delays sound good in front of an amp, but generally I want that stuff after the amp.. (especially live). Although my gigging days will be ending soon (by my choice) Im still considering getting a Ps-100 simply for recording and as a backup.
I have have 50w PS-2 and with my bogner Harlow it competes with 100+ watt amp volumes and headroom. I tune lower so the tighter midrange of the 50w holds very well in any mix.
Incredible video and explanation, thanks!
I love my PS-2!
I bought this and it wiil be arrive in Tuesday. I am thinking of using this with Mesa tremoverb which is very loud amp. I can't wait to try. And I hope Pittbull UL mk2 will be soon.
I really dig this. Only problem is I’m wanting to run a Triple Recto at 150w. This will take it but bump it down to 100. Would I lose my low end from the extra head room or or nah because that’s coming from the amp?
I have the PS-2 and the PS-100....best piece of gear I own...the power amp sounds fantastic...one thing though, they sound a little different from each other....The 50 watt seems brighter and punchier...the 100 watt is darker and thumpier.....I have to put the Highs switch on the 100 to the top brite position to match the sound of the 50 with both switches in the middle.....I guess different tubes are the reason?...and the volume in the 50 is much more touchy, just barely cracking it gets loud pretty quickly, whereas the 100 I can turn it up quite a bit to match the same volume...different tapered pots??....I love both, but I kind of like the sound of the 50 watt one more for these reasons....
Sonically, they're practically indistinguishable, but to get that would require carefully curating the AB test since the levels do operate slightly differently. On the PS-2, push in the front panel level switch to make it act more like the PS-100. As you get up in volume, the 100 will begin to show its additional torque. Tube brand can make a subtle difference in tonal balance. The Ruby 6L6s can be a little toppy and less punchy, but those aren't currently available. With the current Sovtek 6L6, the tonal balance between the two will be less pronounced. This is hair splitting though. Thanks for your comments!
@@FryetteAmps Thanks for the tips...I didn’t mean to imply that one sounded bad..They both sound great...just little differences I have noticed using both...My PS2 has Ruby’s in it...the PS-100 has Sovteks....I think maybe the difference in the volume sweep at the low end of the spectrum is making me perceive one as brighter than the other....the switching options on the 100 are why I got it...I plan on getting one of the foot switches as soon as they are available....again,both are great, and I have enjoyed using them..
@@scottpeters4401 All good! No offense taken. This is # 2 of a weekly video series covering all aspects of Power Station life, and this is definitely a topic worth covering. See you next week :)
@@FryetteAmps If this was only going to be used in a hime/studio situation, will both the PS2 and the PS100 sound as good at bedroom level? I prefer the foot switchable PS100 but will only be playing at bedroom level. Thanks
@@GSXR1k600RR At very low volumes only, we'd recommend the PS-2.
Nice!
Got a PS-2 a few days back. I really love it so far. Sounds fantastic. PS-100 looks brilliant as well and will be a god send for people with single channel amps playing in a duel guitar band set up. Something I wish I had back in my early gigging days... however the functions on it would be wasted on me these days as I'm in a 3 piece (one lead/rhythm guitar) band and I also like having the 2nd speaker out (I know im a minority with that haha).
What amp are you running it with?
@@hlyangel1 I ended up buying two for my stereo guitar live set up. One with a 1959hw, other with a JTM45.
I did an A/B test the other day at unity volume as well… unbelievably transparent…
I think it must be something about that Valve power section. I had a Boss TAE before it blew two of my amps up and this beats the socks off it on pure tone. Also I have a Rivera Rock Crusher which is a great bit of kit. The PS is really something special though.
what is meant by second speaker out
@@rocksteady309 speaker out one is for one Cab, 2nd Speaker out is for another if you want to go full stack 👍🏻
Great demo and explanation! I think I'm going to buy the PS-100 for home use. Question what is the total-db reduction from 0 to -db?
Translating to dB is relative, so an exact number is meaningless without considering which amp and cab are being used. That's why we don't use dB. You can turn it down to below ambient room noise.
I hadn't thought of running two amps with the PS-100. That's very cool!
But how does that work. There is only one amp input on the back.
@@MarkCoffin I haven’t looked into it deeply, but I think you’d need a switch before the input on the PS-100 to choose the amp.
@@HeathWatts that makes perfect sense. I'm guessing an A/B box would possibly do the trick
Then again, if you do that, you can't take advantage of both power station channels separately. Hmmmm.
@@MarkCoffin It might. I’m new to this stuff. When I was formerly a blues guitarist, I just plugged into an amp and played. Now people don’t want so much volume in clubs, so I’m experimenting with attenuation. If you learn more, please let me know. Thanks!
Also the 50W version have 2 speaker output, were as the 100W version have only 1 output. This is one of the reasons I have not been able to choose one or the other. Having 2 outputs for 2 different cabs in the studio is a +.
ooh, that's a big deal for me with my dual mono dry; so I'd require two PS-100 rather than a single PS-II...thanks for that!
There are only so many jacks you can jam into the rear panel, but that doesn't limit how many cabs you can connect. It only limits how many you can plug directly into the rear panel. For the small percentage of users who want to run two cabs simultaneously, use a simple hardwired Y splitter box or cable and set the Power Stations output Impedance selector switch accordingly.
@@FryetteAmps This was also a concern of mine. Thanks for the answer. I just ordered the PS-100 from GC. Its on back order but thats ok
I’ve got the ps-2 that I use to power the helix, truly couldn’t be happier with it in terms of sound and feel
How does it hang in a full band or live scenario? Im looking for a great power amp to go with my quad cortex once it comes in.
@@xxmikehellxx307 The thing has more volume than you will ever need, It'll be great for that. I play in a 2 guitar metal band, other guitarist uses a 5150 or a stiletto 2 and volume is never an issue. The thing has a great feel to it, definitely makes amp sims feel more "real"
@@zachalou3073 dude thats awesome! I play in a metal band as well and we're...well pretty loud haha so to know that volume will never be an issue is reassuring also that it helps with sound and feel of the amp sims is a total plus. I think I'm pretty sold on this thing. Thanks man!
Thanks for sharing! I am purchasing a Kemper soon after much research, and planning on getting the fryette ps2 because I still love playing thru a cab! Metal guitarist so I love the real feel!
I plan on getting Friedman IR-X and running that through my PS-2A. I currently use the Fryette to tame my JCM 800. It's a necessity, in my house.
Good video for feature differences. Input handling is the same for both but for the output (50 vs 100) if both are set to the same output volume will the output tonality "sound" the same?
Yes, up to just before the 50W threshold. Past that, the PS-100 will stay cleaner and more dynamic until it's maxed out too.
I think their Power Load IR unit and its predecessor is way better than the PS2A or PS100. For re-amping just go via one of the line outs into the effects return of another (tube)amp. This setup comes with less hum and no fan noise, which bugs me when playing at lower volumes using the Power Station. A lot of people buy a Power Station for playing at (bed)room levels. This in mind, a unit creating substantial fan noise is a bit counter intuitive. Power Station is a great concept, but in my opinion they cramped too much electronics and tube circuits into a fairly small enclosure. This is asking (so in my studio) for problems when it comes to noise issues. Not so with their Power Loads (or the Suhr Reactive Load).
Good point all around. I bought a PS 100 for my own custom built amp, I added a line level output to reamp or send the output signal to Fx or other devices. Tried connecting my amp speaker out to speaker in on the PS and it was nice. However did not compare to playing the amp wide open with a 4x12. So I did the old reamp trick but using the line out of my amp into the line level in on the PS. I use a Captor X for sim, IR and load (now that fan is annoying) . And there was a significant difference. Even turning everything off (presence, depth and the other switches) It retain the original signal very very close. Don’t get me wrong nothing beats a wide open amp into a 4x12. But this way, at least for me worked well. I just adjust the line level pot on my amp and the volume on the PS to get the sound and feel I am looking for. So to me the PS is my power amp with the added benefit of an FX loop and two different setting’s in front of the PS that I can switch from. So with that I added more possibilities. Now I am still bitter about 1 speaker jack on the PS. I need to get a Y speaker box to connect my 2 speakers cabs. I could use the other speaker out from the Captor X but it is not the same (not even close).
Hey Joe, any chance Steve is considering a stereo or dual amp capable power station. Main application being for a stereo power amp. But also where you could have separate hi/lo on each channel/side so you could bring a big amp down and a small amp up within the one unit. Or any recommendations for a stereo power amp that isn’t just buying two attenuators?
I have been watching these. I once owned a VHT UL from 93-2017. Certainly was the amp of my youth. I learned more through the Henning video especially gleaning the comments section with the various Fryette answers and explanation.
I understand the effects loop in the power station is not buffered. I'm trying to understand the buffer concept.
(Question 1) Could you explain to me the multiple ways the effects loop could be used live and/or in recording situation?
I feel the buffered effects loop of the Bogner Helios and XTC 3534 induce some type of change to the tone (probably the buffers?)
(Question 2) Would the effects loop of the Power Station "take the blanket off" the tone when used with those Bogners? I do feel the Bogners have a great master volume already established in the amps. The loops leave much to be desired.
1) A buffer in your context is used to convert high impedance to low. Since the PS Loop is already low impedance, no buffer is required, which means no noise or headroom issues cause by your typical active "do everything" buffer.. Regarding application see: fryette.com/content/Power_Station_PS2A_Manual.pdf
2) Yes. You simply do not use the amps loop. You use the PS loop instead. The big advantage there is that regardless of the channel setting you use, for the most part you are keeping final volume within a fairly reasonable range across all channels, which makes reverb and delay settings in the loop a lot easier to manage. But you'll have to have the PS in operate mode. Even though the amps master works well, you will be able to further optimize and enhance the sound of the amp under load, so it's simply an extra took in the tone kit.
@@FryetteAmps I just spent 4 hours with the new PS2 that arrived today! Whoa! So cool! The effects loop of the PS2 is so much quieter than the built in effects loop on the XTC 3534. Once I understood the level with the various effect pedals, and the different level options on the PS2, I was able to dial in some stellar tones. I'm looking forward to understanding it more. I have been listening to your streams and I dig the backstory and insight into the thinking that led to the constructs you've designed. Sound city indeed.
Hi, great video. Plz can you confirm if i'm correct: so aside the full amp head attenuation (or even volume boost if one have a low volume amp head) function, this things can be even:
- a power amp for a pre amp and/or amp modeler, connected to a real cab
- a power amp to go into a daw with a pre amp, modeler or an amp head WITH OR WITHOUT a real cab connected to it (without a cab connected it works as a load-box and in any cases for the direct line out recording into ta daw you need a software or hardware cab emulation/IR loader)
- it add an FX loop to an amp head that doesn't have an fx loop
Is this corrrect?... because... if YES... well... THIS IS THE THING!
Yes to all. See: fryette.com/content/Power_Station_PS2A_Manual.pdf
I see the PS-100 also has a line out level, that's a pretty major thing for me as I run multiple amps in a studio and need to trim di signal a lot.
Does the PS-2 control the line level too in anyway, is it fixed or varies with amp volume? Thanks!
Yes, that's standard on both models and that all Fryette dealers currently stock.
fryette.com/content/Power_Station_PS2A_Manual.pdf
thanks for it ..
Damn now I have to get the PS 100. Oh my PS-2 works great.
Hello, great explanation and video. My question is where is unity gain on depth and presence knobs? 12oclock is neutral setting or is knob all way to the left neutral setting/unity gain?
There is no such thing as unity gain on the depth and presence controls, since they are not gain controls. They are feedback trim controls and how effective they are, or how "normal" they sound to you depends on the amp you're using, the cab/speaker type, and the volume you're playing at.
Strat sounds fantastic.
Nice!!
How does re-ampimg with a different power amp not affect the tone? If you crank an amp, there’s characteristics of the power section of the amp which I assume is maintained but wouldn’t the power section of the PS also add another layer of tone?
Rocking!
Great video, how do they handle lower watt amps like 15-20 watts to cut volume, to make is playable at room levels without loosing tonal quality?
if they handle 100-200 watt they handle 15-20 watt amps
I have a PS-2 and I use it on my 25 watt amp just fine. I also run it out to my audio interface to my computer so I can pull my amp into my software.
Actually that is one of the Fryettes features as its reactive load box that does reamplification. The load portion captures the feel of the amp well, the reamplification does not alter the output in any negative ways. The path stays analog and tube throughout. You can use a 5watt amp at a gig without being overpowered by the rest of the band in a mix. Ive done it many times in a live setting.
I wonder how quality this power amp is. I especially want to compare it with mesa strategy 500 or mesa 2:FIFTY power amps. Do you have any references regarding sound for any other power amp?
If I have a bunch of preamp pedals and OD/Distortion/Fuzz pedals and wanted to use a PS-2 to soley amplify them...
(1) I could plug a Line Level preamp pedal into either the LINE IN or the FX Return, correct? If going through the FX RETN, I would set the FX Level to HI, correct?
(2) If I were just wanting to run my guitar into an Instrument Level Big Muff Pi (just a tone knob for tone control) into the amp, would I run it into the FX RETN and select LO for the FX level, correct? Could also pair it with an EQ pedal for more tone shaping.
(3) Do the Volume/Presence/Depth control the power amp section, so anything running into any input (AMP IN, LINE IN, FX RETN) can utilize those controls?
1) Preamp to Line In. Then' you'd be able to run FX in the loop. 2) Correct. 3) Yes.
@@FryetteAmps
Awesome. Thanks!
It wasn't until I saw a video recently where someone was using the PS-2 as a power amp. The whole time, I thought it was just an attenuator...or I'd have bought one years ago. Guess I'll be buying one now. Though, I love the fact that you can connect the SPKR OUT to the AMP IN and have all of your preamp/effects and the PS-2's power amp characteristics outputted through the LINE OUT or XLR OUT. Simply brilliant.
Great video! Quick question, how can the PS-100 be 100W if it only has 2 power tubes? I know I am missing something, but just wondering. Thanks!
The PS-100 uses 6550 power tubes, which normally can produce 100W/pair. Like an SVT does 300W with 6 = 100W/pair.
Question, I have the PS-2 I bought in April of 2015.
Mine does not have that push button though next to the left knob.
When was that added?
Hey Joe,
Is it possible to use the Freyette PS-2 to setup a Wet/Dry/Wet setup like EVH? If so what are the steps? Please let me know when you can. Thanks!
Keith
For quiet bedroom level playing, would the PS-2 or 100 be better? The additional features of the 100 watt would be nice all other things being equal, but was wondering if the 50 watt PS-2 functions better (more transparently in this context) at those low bedroom levels in the same way that a normal 50 vs 100 watt amp head would. Thanks!
yeah i'm wondering the same thing, running through my 66 deluxe reverb and i've read that typically you want an attenuator with double the wattage so 50 would maybe be better? but the foot switching option is attractive to me for dialing in lead tones. does anybody know?
Why would anyone ever want more than 50 for bedroom playing. Even running it half way would be louder than anyone would need, or should want.
I have bought the 50w version, since i turned on for the first time i noticed the fan was at full speed and a bit loud withouth playing, is that normal or not? Thank you
Waiting for the stereo version
I currently have an Ironman ii 100w for a divided by 13 BTR. It has no fx loop…but I don’t want to sacrifice anything for the loop. How do they compare? The attenuation is really good.
How did you have it switch between 2 amps? I don’t see that diagram’ed in the manual
[UPDATED WITH ANSWER TO THE FOOTSWITCH LED QUESTION!]
It is worth mentioning here that the Fryette PS-100 does NOT come with a footswitch as supplied! For a £1000+ unit, I find this extraordinary.
You say that it works with any standard footswitch and it does. Except that it seems to have at least some problems with LEDs. Note that even in this video, at just after 5:20 the footswitch in use there has LEDs which do work but the make is taped over and the Fx Loop is labelled Boost, obviously not Fryette's own! Using a simple non-LED switch works fine, Channels switch and Loop turns on and off. The problem is that the only indication of channel selection is then on the front panel of the amp which is not ideal in a live situation and the Fx loop has no indication at all, not even on the front panel. As soon as a standard red LED is added in series with the switch the switching action stops and the PS-100 does not respond. Now lest you think I am an electronic idiot, the footswitch wired this way works fine with both my array of Marshalls and my H&K GM36, switches correctly and LEDs in the footswitch work fine, so I think we could say that this is a "standard footswitch". The Fryette just sits and looks at me. Now you do have your own footswitch - which of course isn't available anywhere in the UK. To get a special order from your suppliers costs £60 for a simple double footswitch with LEDs. Yes, that is correct £60!!!
Your Fryette support simply does not respond to a polite request for advice on how to wire in LEDs so they will work. The answer MUST be simple but you seem to almost insist we buy your footswitch if we want LED indication at our feet - but you don't even supply it in the UK. The PS-100 is an awesome piece of gear which solves the perennial problem of response and feel at low levels completely. I love it! The marketing seems to be off a little bit in terms of helping your customers to use it to its fullest with the least fuss - and expense.
So come on Fryette, couldn't you just tell us how we SHOULD wire those LEDs to allow the unit to function with indicators on the floor? We don't need a full schematic which is obviously not feasible. It isn't really too deeply into the realms of "intellectual property" is it?
EDIT: I have now had a chance to look into this on a live unit. The answer is ridiculously simple and took about 5seconds to spot. Fryette switch a negative voltage on their control lines so the LED must be reversed. Nothing more than that. Put the LED in series with the switch with its cathode to the tip or the ring towards the unit and its anode to the switch and through it towards the sleeve and ground for both switches. This is reversed with respect to every other footswitch that I have come across. If I'm wrong on that PLEASE TELL ME, I am not averse to being told I have been a plonker! No resistors are needed in the footswitch, the current limiting for the LED is performed inside the PS-100. So there you go. Any old PS2 type footswitch and two LEDs are all that is needed. Why couldn't they just tell us that outright, they advised us to get a "standard footswitch" after all. Sure it was easy to check and find out but it was no real secret of their circuitry was it?
Is there a preferred way of running the PS-100 with an amp switcher (like the Ampete 4x4) that doesn’t have an input for an attenuator? I’ve read the PS can be used in this scenario but with only one cabinet vs. the four cabinets if using the Ampete example. Can you guys shed some light on how to maximize this in this type of scenario?
With no Attenuator Loop on the switching system, your options would be to use 1 Amp and 4 cabs or 4 amps and 1 cab.
Does the 6550 vs 6l6 tubes effect the sound? My amp has EL 34s would one of these units be better choice over the other to keep the same tone?
Yeah this is what Iv been thinking, I have some 6l6 amps but my preferred tone is an el34 amp. So I don’t know how much sense it makes to put another tube sound signature in front of el 34s.
I would assume the 6550 would alter the sound less. Although I saw a review of someone say their power station affected their tone and feel and they preferred to use the boss waza
Is the PL-1 identical to the load stages of the PS-100 and PS-2?
Would both versions provide clean power and not introduce any distortion to the amplified sound? I was wondering if the 50 watt with it's lower headroom would cause any sound artifacts like power tube distortion.
The PS-2 will introduce distortion if you push it to maximum power, just like a clean home stereo power amp will introduce distortion if you push it to maximum power. The extra headroom of the PS-100 is the result of more available power to play at higher volume. You can push that one to distortion too, but it'll be more painful:)
@@FryetteAmps Thanks for answering - that makes sense. I'm looking for clean sound to reamp a Plexi. Still going back and forth on 50 watt vs 100 watt.
@@VH1984 The PS-100 retains the big footprint of the Plexi better at low volume. That's why Dave Friedman and Pete Thorn like it and they've both had both models.
@@FryetteAmps That's good enough for me :).
Are any one of these affordable and how do they work would they work on a setup like mine guitat, effects, amp??
Still can't seem to find an answer on if being able to use this with the Celestion F12-X200 FRFR speakers. Can the PS-100 power that type of cab in mono? Can it do stereo as well with (2) separate FRFR cabs when using amp modelers?
The PS-100 is mono, but will run an FRFR cab.
They also do some stereo, rackmount tube power amps if that would be more useful to you. Price jump is pretty big, however.
@fryette amps
The video mentions using an amp switcher to plug two amps in. I presume that means you have to switch the amp and then switch the channel on the Power Station?
I never thought of using an amp switcher. My world has bee turned upside down!
We'll expand on the super insider tricks in upcoming videos, but, yes.
I recently purchased Marshal’s 20w version of their JCM 800, and even though it has a 5 watt mode and master volume, it still needs to get pretty loud to sound “right”.
Which model would you recommend for lower watt amps like my 20/5w Marshall?
PS - I will be using primarily for quieter studio recording sessions but also the occasional full-band gig with drummer
Thank you!
PS-2A
@@FryetteAmps Thank you!
The PS-100 manual states that the 1/4" line out is frequency compensated. Can you please explain what this means, and clarify if the XLR line out is any different in this regard?
It doesn't. You're probably looking at an old manual. fryette.com/content/Power_Station_PS100_Manual.pdf
So is the load box/attenuator part in the two the same?
FML, I'm even more confused! I wanted to see if I can run my Soldano preamps through this and out to my Mesa 412 cabinets but I think the Fryette 1U poweramp may be easier.
If you're going for a stereo rig, the LXII would be the better choice.
How come you recommend the ps-2 on low volume? Is it better and more transparant than the ps-100? I wonder since I mostly play at bedroom volume, but I would love the possibility to match the volume on my clean tone when rolling down guitar volume (which also lower overall volume) with the volume when I max the volume on my guitar
They both sound the same, so it's just personal feature preference.
So with the PS-100 can you run two different Heads into one Cabinet? Or I will still need an amp switcher?
You would need a separate amp switcher, the implication was that if you had an amp switcher you could set the channels differnetly for each amp. It would be a 2 *step* process of switching between them.
Does the effects loop, goes through the xlr or unbalanced output to have your effects in recording in ps100 ?
Signal path is Amp In > Line Out > Line In > FX Loop > Power Amp > Speaker Out. If you want effects direct to DAW, use Line Out > external effects > DAW, or FX Send > external effects > DAW.
Hi Joe and Steve! I have a question:
I have a Friedman BE100 and 2 Friedman 212 Cabs. I want to set this up in stereo so that my Strymon and Eventide pedals I run in the amps fx loop can be in true stereo with both cabs. (I want stereo, not wet dry) If I buy a Fryette Power Station, could I use that in some way to accomplish this? So that my Friedman’s tone and its effects are coming out of both cabs in stereo? Thanks!
You're going to need a stereo power amp for that.
@@FryetteAmps okay thanks!
How would one setup 2 amps with it like you mentioned? They would both have to have the same ohms though yeah? (I'm a noob at this stuff) lol
I have the PS-100 but what foot switch should I look at? I can’t find anything in the manual or site about it. Meaning... where can I get the correct foot switch?

Can the pedal you release also be used for your Deliverance D120ii?
I have the D120ii AND the PS100.
I’d get a pedal for each application.
@@bmxhog We'll offer the same footswitch format for use with the D120II, but the internal wiring is a little different.
Can you mix and match impedance levels? ie. 8ohm amp into PS then out to 16ohm speaker cab?
Yes, as long as you stay in Operate mode. In Bypass mode everything is bypassed.
Nice video and congratulations on the very well-received product.
However, I find the assertion that it is the only attenuator to boost a small amp misleading: I’m pretty sure the Boss Amp Expander does as well!
Edited to state "no *passive* attenuator" which was the actual intent. Note that the TAE uses a solid state power amp, does not present actual real-world operating impedances to your amp and does not allow access to the unprocessed analog reactive signal. It's always going DA/AD before reamping. Besides that, the TAE FX are nice.
Thank you for the information, very interesting to understand the distinction.
would a PS-2 work with a multi watt recto? For instance the amp being set on the 50w mode.
Yes. It works with any tube amp.
does different power tubes produce slightly different sound?
Why you would decide tu run the FX loop thru the PS100 instead of directly thru the amp effect loop? I Just bought mine and I’m looking forward to use it to drive my amp at breakup levels in my bedroom.
For the same reason you mic a cranked amp in the studio and add reverb effects in post. Because it sounds more natural, as in room reflections, etc.
If I'm running two amps (a Fender Super Reverb and a Marshall 1987x) into the PS-100, is it also possible for each amp to have its own FX loop via the PS-100? Hopefully that makes sense what I'm asking.
If you want different effects active for different amps using a common loop, as in switching different amp heads on the same Power Station, you'll need an external effects switcher to do that. Something like the Voodoo Lab HEX would be an option here.
@@FryetteAmps Ahh gotcha. I have an ES-8, so I guess I would be able to do it with that?
I see what you're saying now - I would run my ES-8 into the PS-100's FX Loop?
@@wayfaerer320 That's right.
if we're going from the monitor out of kemper preamp into the line In of the ps100, should we use a standard instrument quarter inch or a speaker cable ?
Instrument cable. Only use speaker cables for the Amp In and Speaker Out.
@@FryetteAmps thanks!
Can both models power two 4x12 cabinets?
Could you achieve the 2 channel thing on the PS2 with a volume and EQ pedal in the front or fx loop?
To a degree yes. The FX Loop method would be the recommended application.
@@FryetteAmps thank you!
is it also a power amp for preamps????
I'll take a (drumroll....) Gamble on one of these.
It's mentioned that its possible to run the PS100 with 2 amps & an amp switcher. Would like to be shown this in depth please.
It's just like using an amp switcher to run 2 amps into a cab, except in this case the PS-100 is treated as the cab.
@@FryetteAmps Thanx
My radial tonebone amp switcher has and says to speaker cabinet jack. Would this go to the amp in behind the ps-100 or ps-2? When you say use it as a cab with a switcher what output or input do you plug into the ps for two amps? Thank you and a very good cheers!!!
One piece of gear I'll never get rid of is my ps-2...unless I can trade up for the ps100...
If I wanted to run into the PS-100 a foot (2-3 channel) switchable amp...but just wanted the 100watt power, does it matter which volume I need to use?
No.
Just bought a new PS100
Still not unboxed.
My amps are 30-45w
Should I return for PS2 ?
I liked the extra features on the PS100
Safe with my old tube amp’s ?
Totally safe for your amps! Just don't overload your speakers.
Please do this format with a 2:90:2 vs. an LXII :)
Coming up!
@@FryetteAmps a stereo version with two discrete reactive load inputs? 🙂
You guys are as awesome as your amps! 🖤

That SOUND CITY MASTER 100 head......
hi Fryette please help me! I have two amps with an amp switcher. Is there a way to change amps and power station channels with one foot switch? If not ill just get the PS2
Depends on the amp switcher. Contact support@fryette.com for details.
@@FryetteAmps Ok thanks
Fryette I have a PS 100 and have sent a couple of emails asking about the foot switch. I want to pre order or buy one can you help me please thanks Curt
In the works! Thank you for your patience.
@@FryetteAmps I want to put money on one to pre order it can you help me and take my $$ so I can get one ASAP
@@zippy61 We normally don't like to take deposits until we have a firm ship window. Don't worry, we'll make plenty! It should open up in a couple of weeks.
@@FryetteAmps How will I know when they are available? I like placing preorders forgetting about it and then the item just shows up at my door. I just don’t want to miss the release because I really need this. Thanks
Are there any tonal difference between PS2 & PS 100 since they use different tubes (6550 vs 6L6?
No. They are identical sonically. If you push the PS-2 to maximum power, you will hear slight compression and softening of the top end, but at clean power side by side it will be difficult to tell which is which.
@@FryetteAmps Thank you and I suppose the 6550 have more headroom on the output.
@@oliphant3727 The PS-100 is 100W. That means more headroom. Not about tube sound, but power output capability.
When are they back on stock?
Next week.
Please ship some to the UK, they are out of stock in every store :(
Both models please :)
We're shipping both models to Peach Guitars this month!
@@FryetteAmps Thanks for the heads up 👍 My Boogie thanks you too 🤘
Do you have to use the presence and depth or can you leave them off and just get the amp sound?
While there is no defeat switch for the presence and depth controls, you can simply set them so that they match your amps typical response.
Which one would pair best with a kemper?
Both will work equally well at typical playing volumes.
I really don’t get why the big amp builders are not just building this tech into their amps in the first place. Literally every single amp, even 5 W amps, are just way too loud for home use.
Hello there! Could you a ramp of a Hughes and Kettner Grandmiester Deluxe 40 to see if it warms the amp up and make the sound more robust and tubey?
Thanks
Can you plug this directly into a mixer
You would need an IR loader for that to be effective.
how he says "reactive load" 25 seconds in says it all
After trying to get work done in my SIG X and being denied I will never look at another FRYETTE anything ever
I only want to play clean
Can this thing make Belgian Waffles?
Funny you should ask...
Hmm, I take it there's no master-level for the PS-100 to turn up or down both channels equally?...
Just the individual controls for each channel- not a global master for both.
Joe gamble?
Yep!
Any re-amping device will colour yr amps voice...I don't care what company makes it..
I’m very disappointed with my PS2 It Does not sound good with my AC30CC
or Super Reverb RI.
For one thing the when the amp you are attenuating uses different power tubes than the PS 2 then it’s not going to honestly sound good in a
re amp situation for smaller amps as advertised.
So it appears I am left with an
an average sounding thus overpriced attenuator.
If I’m wrong on the please tell me how to work around it.
Conceptually it would make more sense if you could switch out the type of power tubes otherwise it’s all for not. What the hell was I thinking 🤔
The power tubes used in the PS are irrelevant since tubes only make a particular "sound" when the circuit design determines that they will. Tube Hi-Fi amps are well known for their linear sonic qualities, and same goes here. Next, the purpose of the voicing switches and Presence/Depth controls are to help you shape the behavior of the PS to complement the amp you are attenuating/boosting. Try to get unhooked from the idea that "tube sound" is the problem and work with the controls to get where you want to go. If you need further assistance, please contact support@fryette.com
I didn’t understand any of this
Hey!
I'm a new, very happy PS100 owner....love my PS100!
Question: I have a quite long xlr cable (6 m) from the lineout of the PS100 to my UAD apollo. Would it be beneficial to use a buffer here or is it not necessary? Thanks a lot
It's already low impedance, so no buffer is necessary. In fact, we recommend not using one as some of them could limit headroom.
@@FryetteAmps thanks a million! Cheers from Sweden
Just picked up a PS2A, noticed there is no switch for the filter on the line out. Has the filter been removed altogether?
The LPF is completely gone in the 2A. It was a controversial feature to begin with and ultimately way more people wanted control of the line level than cared about whether the LPF was a good or bad thing.
@@FryetteAmps thanks for getting back on this.I had an original PS and the LPF was one of the things I did not like about it. Must say the new version is excellent, the pad on the volume is really good and the line level control is a great addition.
Hi, can I ask one thing about these units - I would like to have one permanently rack mounted to use with both my rack preamps and as an attenuator for my heads.
Am I correct in thinking that with the PS2 there is no way to select between the Line Input and the Amp Input? If that’s the case, is it possible to use the PS100 where the rack preamps are plugged into the FX Loop Return and then the footswitch control could select between the amp input and the rack pre input?
Thanks :)
