I'm Molly, a typical sushi, makeup, and fashion loving millennial girl who just so happens to be blind! I was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa at just 4 years old and began public speaking at age 5. I started just doing motivational speaking, but now I make videos and even model! Even though I can’t see, I know that there are bright spots in everything we face. Let’s find them together. 💕
Do you use pads or tampons?
Molly Burke tampons make me cry my eyes out because of the pain so pads
Both!
Usually tampons
Molly Burke I use a mentral cup most of the time
I use a menstrual cup! Game changer!
We really don't think it sounds that graphic! When you've experienced your period hundreds of times, this kinda stuff ain't graphic any more 😂
As a mom, if my grown daughters needed me to look at anything that came out of their bodies, of course I would. No question. They’re my daughters.
@@juniper617 When i got my first period it was like, a week before my 10th birthday, so i was 9yrs old, and school hadn't gone into the whole period lessons yet, so, i just saw this weird browny-red stuff in my pants and thought i crapped myself so i just showed my mum and asked her if it was period blood. Daughters should never feel shy to show their mums their period blood. I have a 5yr old daughter, and i got a side episiotomy, so stitches, i had to regularly show the stitches to my partner to make sure none burst or whatever, and make sure i was healing okay. After labouring and birthing totally nude because clothes were uncomfortable for me, i lost all shyness when it comes to my naked body. I'm not an exhibitionist at all, my clothes are like high-neck, long-sleeve, trousers, but i'm not shy to just take it all off if i need to and i'm thankful for that, medically-wise.
I was 8 when I got mine. I just had 2 teeth pulled & we were visiting a friend of my mother's in the hospital. I wasn't feeling well, so when we went back to my mother's friend's apartment to pick things up for the hospital, I went to sleep. When I woke up.....blood bath all over, (hope this isn't too graphic). Even at that young age, I was very private, shy. Didn't know what was on the bed, went to the bathroom and screamed. My mother was visiting the couple next door with my sister. Who does my mother send to find out what's wrong? My sister. UGH. I was NOT a dramatic child, so hearing me scream should have sent shivers down my mother's spine, but no. LOL I wouldn't let anyone in the bathroom, (remember, shy & private). My mother had to use a key. I was crying, thinking I was dying....I was in so much pain, everywhere, because even my mouth was hurting & bloody. It was horrible. My cycle never let up; and was very inconsistent in when it would come. When it did, it usually lasted between 7-9 days. I'd miss 3 days of school every month, if it didn't start on the weekend. I'm now 58 and it took 4 years to get rid of it during menopause. My doctor told me that getting it so young I probably would stop getting it when younger. NOPE. The majority of my friends had "normal" cycles, most of them NEVER complaining of cramps or nausea or heavy flows. They also stopped getting it a couple of months after starting menopause. Where's the justice in that? LOL
sofie. liz lol
Yeah, you know you have your period days before it happens smh
"What is a normal woman and a normal period? There is none." PREACH MOLLY
I mean, there's is a 'normal' period, it's good to know what is considered normal and what's not so that we know if we're healthy
@@hannap8052 your normal could be completely different to mine though, theres no set normal that every single woman has the same
Hania P. There’s a normal “range”
Definitely not a normal period.
Exactly. I just said this in my comment. There isn’t a “normal” so to speak.
@@grayskindablue what I meant by 'normal' is 'healthy', one that doesn't need medical intervention and shows that everything is ok. I use to vomit and faint on my period, it was 'normal' for me but it wasn't healthy because it was really bad for my body. I'm not saying everybody's period is the same, sorry if I misunderstood
Society has trained us to constantly apologize for our period. It's absolutely insane. If men had periods they would BLAST IT

They would blast it, demand monthly paid sick leave, get free products and pain meds...
I got my first one at 13. We were learning about menstruation during science class that day. My body must've thought, "I've been meaning to start that. Thanks for reminding me." Good thing I was wearing black pants.
Thanks Hermione OMG!!!!
I got my first period when I was 10 and I was in 5th grade. It was in September, I think. I had just learned about menstruation, too, in my science class, but luckily I got it at around 7 or 8 PM so I was at home. I only told my mom, and she didn't tell anyone and I was kind of scared so every time I had to go to the bathroom, my mom had to go with me. Now I am 13 and looking back to it, it was kind of funny how I got it the same day we had about it at school, haha.
13 lucky I got mine at 11

I am so bummed we live in a culture where Molly would feel weirded out or self conscious about sharing these things with all of us because it’s “gross.” To some people. You go Molly! Don’t feel weird! Periods suck, but talking about them shouldn’t suck! Don’t let anyone make you feel uncomfortable or weirded out by what’s natural and normal, for you and other people who have a cycle!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
You rock for saying that men are always looking down on us for our periods it's normal and natural yes it sucks but it's mother nature doing her cycle
Or you could see it as a time where people like Molly are able to talk about this online. This is a good thing imo
Its true that it sucks, cause I'm on it 😭
Agree. You go Molly!! 😘😘😘♥️♥️♥️
Omg I agree it’s natural it sucks but like my mom said every girl and woman goes through it

When you have to poo on your period.. that’s a mess 🙁
Tru tho
Ugh! The worst 😩 And my stomach is always upset the first few days of my period from all the cramps and stuff. Not fun!
Wasting a whole roll of toilet paper because theres so much blood 😢
One reason I looove those little showers in Finland you have next to every toilet. You just wash yourself right there. I eventually started to always wash poopie instead of wiping outside period too because it's much more hygienic, effective and gentle, now I however live in South Africa where those little showers aren't a thing of course so I'm kinda re-learning to wipe like a normal person I guess, lol... Granted I'm also pregnant so no period poopies for now
Omg! I seriously thought it was only me!!!

Clue is a good one
Giving solving the mystery of Mr.Boddy a new meaning.
I'm not blind, but I use Clue all the time. It also tracks ovulation. I think mine is slightly off for ovulation, but it's pretty close.
Thank you for posting this. I'm disabled, mobility, no sight issues. However, your earlier start of puberty, was the first time I have known someone else who started young, I was 9, it happened at night. My dad was at work, & we're close but that was a relief as I absolutely didn't want him knowing. My big sister was on holiday, my mum was on the phone to my Godmother. I went to the toilet, saw blood & thought I was bleeding in the injured way, as I had no idea about puberty or periods...That was frightening. After that first time, I used to be extremely ill, vomiting each month, & jaundice too for about a year. Never any pain though. It's an important subject that no one wants to talk about, so much stress & embarrassment for young girls. But to be blind too? That means it can't be something as secret & private, because you need to know it's started each time.
So hard as this must've been thank you, for sharing. Younger me would've been so relieved to know she wasn't a freak, hitting puberty so early. It was pre-google, so leaflets that stated average age was the limit of info available. Which is why friends, with daughters especially, know I hit puberty young. Tell your daughter so it isn't frightening for then & let them know it's nothing to be embarrassed about.
Menstrual cups are my go to saving the environment
Ok, but like, have you done it without looking?
I’m sure it’s fine for blind women to use tampons or pads if maneuvering a cup is too difficult.
It’s not fair to impose a feeling of guilt on those who already have tougher situations.
This is coming from another cup user. I believe the women who are able to use cups have already made a huge impact on the environment.
If one can use a menstrual cup as a blind person, that is really incredible to me.
@@elephantshrew6304 I don't look when I use my cup. The only time I see it is when I take it out from its storage and when I wash it (but I could wash it without being able to see it and have when my migraine is so bad that I don't turn on any lights in the bathroom).
But that's just me, it could be different depending on the user.
This isn’t graphic at all!!! Even if it was people can click off. Periods aren’t gross.
Ikr something so natural is not gross
Sorry... I know it's natural, but for me it's very gross... not the smell, but to feel you have blood all over, I normally feel so angry everytime I get stained
I think it's okay for people to admit it's gross, even if it is natural. So is vomiting and pooping but we consider that gross. It's tissue being shed and blood everywhere!
omg my moms name is jennifer harris too lmao
I agree!!

Lmao I know right. I don't feel grossed out by mine. Its normal.
Not gross to me. I supported my wife when she went through this. Had no problems going to the store for her, taking care of her while going through it. We have been married for 37 years. She doesn't get them anymore and i am glad that she doesn't have to go through the pain. I do miss taking care of her though.

I totally agree with you on men needing to know. I remember one month i was on it. My husband was in the shower and i was doing my thing on the potty. We started talking about it and we do have a very open relationship, I am 100% sure most people would be disgusted by our conversations. We got on the topic of my (and women in general) period. I happened to be using a tampon at that moment and asked if he really understood what they did. The answer was no, So what do i do. Obviously, i grab a new one and jump in the shower where there is a liquid source for my instruction. he was totally fascinated by how big it got in the water.
On the note of how you know when you cant see it, well i know personally I can smell a metallic scent from the area the day I am going to start. I dont know if this is normal for everyone but i personally can smell menstrual blood.
@cheeky banana ive never been a shy girly girl. Always had more Male friends than female. It almost became a game of mine to see if i can make the guys on my raid team squirm with some comment they have been conditioned not to say infront of girls
The metalic scent may be you smelling the iron in your blood. I know I smell way different when I'm having my period. It's like a metalic smell mixed with the sweat that you get from having sex (it's very specific to me).
I'm so happy your periods got better. I started watching you for some positivity while stuck in bed with my disability. THANK YOU. Was diagnosed age 24 with endometriosis, adenomyosis and PCOS since mine just kept getting worse and for a long time I just thought this was normal. It surprises me that so many women are “scared” of tampons, and how many choose to wear pads. I just feel like it feels SO uncomfortable to wear a pad. I used drugstore tampons for so long until I realized how horrible they actually are. Then I started buying 100% cotton ones and it changed how they made me feel so much. Now I’m starting to use the menstrual cup. Ladies...get familiar with your body. Learn about it. Locate your cervix. It’s VERY empowering and makes using things like tampons and cups a lot easier. There’s nothing to be scared of.

The checking with your mom thing? Honestly, it doesn't sound that different from when you're out with friends and you've got white jeans. Suddenly you're terrified you've abruptly gotten your period and it's broken through, so you grab your friend and go, "Am I good?!" and turn around so she can check you.
Your version involves much less panic, so I like it.
Lets give it up for the Canadian healthcare system!!
It would've been so expensive to go to the doctor so many times in the 90s in America
Cassie W 👏🏼
Totally agree! 🇨🇦❤️
In the 90's?? It's even more expensive today. I hate the American healthcare system. And I know all my Canadian and European friends complain about the higher taxes, but the American tax code is so cumbersome and ridiculous that a lot of Americans overpay taxes unless they have the cash to hire tax specialists. I hate all the medical bills that come after I see a doctor, and I just found out because my husband switched jobs and I'm no longer eligible for his new work insurance until he's been there for a year, I'll be paying $580/month on top of my normal medical bills. Just got a bill for $387 from my ultrasound to determine my due date for this new baby. How is this better than paying higher taxes?!? At least if we had higher taxes contributing to a national health Care system, we wouldn't have the highest maternal death rate of all the developed countries, because pregnant women wouldn't put off seeing a doctor until it was too late. I wouldn't get panic attacks every time I have to see a doctor. America is so broken.
Girl, I’m with you! That is so close to what I deal with that it’s almost scary. My husband gets the privilege of checking for me. Anyone that shamed you for this should be ashamed. We’ve got to do what we have to do. Just know that you are not alone.

When you're on your period and someone says something funny and you laugh hard....💀💀
Or sneeze
Or cough
or get frightened by somebody
lina girl I wear tampons so I don’t even feel it
mere standing up from a chair feels like bloody niagara falls down there wdym
Even as a sighted girl, I have never needed to see it to know. Like you can feel it. I had no idea so many people only can tell by sight.
I also can feel it, like I know, that’s the real thing, but sometimes I have pre-cramps due to pms, so sometimes I have to check more often, because, well I’m a little bit paranoid in this topic 🤷🏻♀️😂
I think like my first day, right when it starts, sometimes I'm surprised and didn't know. So I could see some accidents happening, but for the most part I'd think you'd know
I've always had irregular and heavy periods, and I literally never know it's "coming" until it's HERE. I'm on the birth control pill now, so I only know it's coming when it's time to take a week break in my pill, but I still can't "feel" that it's coming.
Nikotastik yeah me too
I was always able to tell the minute it started also, but Molly said hers now starts with light spotting, so that would probably not be as obvious.
I was extremely unlucky i got my period when i was 8 years old I have an older sister so i knew what was happening but, i was sooo surprised because my older sister got hers at 12 so i thought i had a few more years gurlll i was wrong!
Oh wow, that is pretty young.
Omg wow!
You were an early bloomer!
Same I got mine at 9
I thought I was dying
I'm so scared of getting my period. I turn 14 in a week. It sounds so unfair.
Edit: I’m in this weird grey area. I don’t want to get my period, sure, but I also feel like I should’ve had it by now.
Snail Kale it’ll be ok! you are strong!
it's literally nothing i don't know why girls are making it sound like a big deal
goobert I think it is a big deal! I already have horrible cramps twice a month! The possibility of more is going to kill me! Plus my emotional state is horrible as it is, I don’t need extra hormones AND pain in the mix!
Snail Kale you could take advil lol
goobert ?
I think the relationship between you and your mom is amazing. I would love to see a video more on that friendship.
A Lemon me too!
I second this!
Yesss!!! Would love to see the journey between you two 💛
Gosh i now as a mom the story they tell will put me in tears and im ready for it
I'm not blind but my mother and I are that close too if needed ❤
Menstrual jokes aren’t funny.
Period.
Oh my god lmao
OH GOD ;DDD
Why did I laugh so hard at this
:D
Ahh I’m on mine and it hurts when I laugh😂👌🏼
You are....so incredible. I appreciate your vulnerability and honesty, and I think there was nothing inappropriate or gross. You’re right, this is a normal physiological process. 😉
Girl, you have nothing to be ashamed of! You should never be ashamed of something that happens to you. That's just a general rule I apply to everything in life.
Molly you are so sweet. Dont even stress girl! This video wasn't weird or uncomfy. It was very informative!
I fully agree, it's all good!
I was the 666th like!!!!!
for the first Minutes I were confused why she just said "Blind Girls" and not Boys
Than I realised😅
I’m confused? Is that because trans people exist?
It surprised me when you said that people in the comment section wonder how you understand you got your period if you don't see it because from my experience, blood just flows different out of the vagina and you can tell that what's coming out is blood. I thought everyone could tell without looking like you just sit in class, you feel something coming out and you just instantly know it's period blood.
True, but for me personally there's discharge that comes out before my period and it's hard to tell the difference between that and blood without looking. But then also, as you said, you "instantly know," I've found that is true about 75% of the time.
Being open about our periods is important, for little girls and to brake the eww period mentality
Ya that shit got me bullyed
@@kitten_582 I'm sry to hear that, people suck sometimes. I got teased (mostly by boys in my class) in 7th grade for not wearing a bra yet or shaving my legs. I don't think I got my period till later. I don't remember what age I was when it started.
Sara White what the fuck... WHY would someone even care about ur bra..I dont get it.. BRUH SJJDBSBSBBSNSHSHSBBSV😂
@@eve.m1026 IKR? Probably because they were middle school boys w nothing better to do. I still remember them tracing my spine w their fingers to check/ prove it.
Well i'm a man and don't like that topic xD
Nahh i don't really need that
I’m not blind but I use this period tracking app It’s called “Clue” and it work and so far for me it’s been 100% accurate for the year and a half i’ve used it. It is voice software accessible.
Same and it has been super accurate for me!
Same! I love “Clue”! It’s always accurate!
Its only 100% accurate if you have a regular period cycle,if not it will be less accurate but it takes in the pattern and information and make a perdiction as to when it is
Lindsey Dickinson I use Clue too, and its been 100% accurate for me too.
omg i use clue too!!
I also lost my period during a really hard time in my life. 1-2 years also around 19 years old. Its something that really needs to be talked about more because a lot of women experience it. After coming down from the stress and the depression, my period was always VERY infrequent and unpredictable. during that time, I realized how important mental health is for the physical body. It still happens when big issues crop up in my life but it is so awesome to hear you had a similar experience because it is just not talked about.
If I’m being real- I can tell when it’s blood coming out or discharge. Even with vision, I use the sense of feeling and (tmi?) smell... and can tell when I’m bleeding even without looking.
There is an app for blindness, which will announce what colours or objects it is "seeing"
It's called Aipoly Vision App and it will say out loud whatever color the camera of your phone or tablet is pointing toward. I think that you could use this, point it at your toilet paper, and it could help indicate if you're bleeding by announcing "Red" or any colour in the browns, pinks, reds, and oranges.
I'm not sure how accurate it is, and if you're not familiar with color names and which colours would indicate blood it might make it additionally confusing.
If it could possibly help you, I thought it's worth mentioning and trying.
I’m pretty sure she’s familiar with colours as she only went blind early teens/tweens I’m pretty sure 🙃
@@Abby-pb1kf She doesn't remember what colours look like, as she says visual memory doesn't last 🌸
@@Abby-pb1kf visual memory doesn't last long when you're having to re-learn how to live your life without sight. molly herself has said that she can't remember what colors actually look like since it's been so long since she's seen them. she only has an idea/assumption of how they look.
She does know what red is, she just cant visualize it. She i a smart woman and knows blood's red. lol
@@reedlawrencej yeah, even blind since birth people know that blood is red, they can remember it without knowing how red looks like
I know this was for sighted people who have been nosey, but as a mother of a blind daughter, this is extremely useful information for the future. Thanks Molly 🙏
I use an app called Flo and it’s pretty accurate, I’m not blind 🌻
I love when women have period talks. It makes me feel more comfortable and a part of something special.
CZcams always recommends period videos to me when I’m on my period! Like how do they know??
Victoria Pavkovic SAME
It's the same for me too 😂😂
Same
Your phone is stalking you...it “hears” when you talk about anything...💀📱
Our overlord Google knows everything about us.
"so I get cleavage for like 10 days of the months, it‘s pretty bomb." LMAO I love how relatable this is
H. C. Meeeee
ikr its such a mood
i haven’t started my period yet this month but this is literally happening to me right now lmfao
LOL that's how my boyfriend knows I'm ovulating. They grow like a whole freaking cup size. :/ It's freaking weird.
CZcams recommended this video while I currently have the familiar sharp pain in my right ovary. The algorithm is getting way too intuitive.
That constant anxiety when you're due for your period, and you wonder:
Am I pregnant?
Is it my period or discharge?
LOL, for real. I have never had a boyfriends, never slept with someone and yet i still sometimes wonder when i feel weird „Am i pregnant?“
I’m a guy but always find periods interesting
il truly never fully understand it so i do my best to learn and be mature about it and understand how it effects women
It isn’t gross or tmi to me it’s natural but yet has social stigma so I’m glad videos like this exist
You are a legend! I wish more men thought the way you do. Then they might be a bit more compassionate when we are going through our periods.
Fluffy Unicorn I mean what am I guna do say a woman is over reacting or act immature about it for my own comedic relief when I can’t begin to fully comprehend what she could be going through
The best thing I can do is be there and lend a helping hand when I can and be knowledgeable and open about the topic it’s natural so it’s more interesting to learn about it for me so I can at least be of use when it calls for it
@@grungelives well that's the sensible and respectful way to go about it. Hopefully you will inspire more men to do the same.
Fluffy Unicorn that’s how I look at it
it’s not my goal haha but if it wears off on people then awesome!
Speaking Truth exactly you out hear speaking truth lol
It’s a fine thing once you’ve been around it enough earning your red wings is a pretty normal experience as well
As long as you are a understanding dude and know how to be there when you need to be then it’s just another week just a little tougher for her
I'm so with you that boys should know about periods
Totally
Boys should get the cramps not us xD
I find it shocking how boys don’t know what pads or tampons are, i mean yeah they’re boys and don’t need to use them but surely someone should tell them, so say if they have a gf or something later on in life, they can understand the *_pAiN_* she goes thru...?
agreed
I'm happy I could educate my ex on those things because he doesn't have sisters and our education in school wasn't the best in educating us about these topics.
When we moved in together he really show interest to ask me questions about it and I would tell him things about it as well, so even if we are not together anymore I'm happy that this isn't something foreign to him so he can make his partners in future a bit more comfortable by knowing all these informations already ☺️
I’m 25 and I only use liners and pads, I never seen tampon before. I didn’t even know how to open it thank you for showing that.
Molly- Every women listening and watching this video understands and doesn’t think it is graphic.. we get it!!
