  • Hey guys,
Today we discuss a topic that is usually at the front of the FIFA discussion, and that's whether or not FIFA should be a realistic, simulation based game. In my opinion, there should be less realism in order to make the game more balanced, fun, and a better experience. It seems crazy to me to have a game that's an eSport be as random as it is. But what do you guys think?

Thing is with ea is that they have realism and arcadiness in the opposite parts of the game. The meta should be more realistic based on passing and movement rewarding the player for their vision and ability to build up and it should be arcade in things like dribbling/defending. If I tackle properly or time my skill move right, while it may not be realistic, I should always win the ball/beat my man.

There’s nothing wrong with realism. FIFA is not realistic at all i have never seen in real life defenders literally run away from the ball and refuse to mark attackers.
The game has some underlying fun features but the core gameplay makes it unplayable, I just had a game where it was 1-1 and nothing happened in 20 minutes then guess what happens in the 93rd minute with +1 time given, I tackle the ai the ball ricochets off my player and exactly to the ai leading to a through ball and of course my defenders not reacting and a goal. Misplaced passes, keeper errors, missing open goals, wrong ref calls are all part of the game. But when that does happen people always complain about dda or scripting. FC24 with assisted controls is 0% realistic. It's a football version of ping-pong, in which you get rewarded for finding a hole in a defence and sending a through-pass. There is no middle game. Movement feels robotic. Gameplay is so fast that only a hyperactive 6 y.o. could enjoy it. For me, there is no fun in it.
I also don't care about FC being an e-sport game. It's supposed to be a football sim game and I would like the gameplay to resemble actual football match.

Fifa would massively benefit if it was 2 seperate games. One focusing on online and esports and the other centered around career mode with the more realistic feel. What they have been doing is mixing those 2 up, so you end up with a game that doesn't reward good play against other people but is also totally unrealistic when you try to take a team and manage it. Constant flicks, stupid looking skill moves and all the fut nonsense do not belong in CM, while randomness and not rewarding good play does not belong in a mode where you have Sam Kerr and Pele linking up to score for a team with Lyon's badge and Marseille's kit named Cockfc69 for the sake of "realism". • @achrafmarouane9773
    @achrafmarouane9773 Před 6 měsíci +13

I’d take a more realistic game except that’s absolutely not the case for FC 24, it is arguably getting less realistic for two reasons:
    1. Animations: EA seems to believe that adding more animations equates to increased realism. However, the reality is that these additional animations often lead to bizarre scenarios where three of your players inexplicably collide with each other, giving your opponent an easy goal. This situation occurs far too frequently, not to mention the issues with overpowered playstyles.
    2. AI: that was one of fifa’s major assets, but Instead of improving on it, it is getting worse with each release, and it impacts the gameplay experience. EA is trying to place the burden of controlling all 11 players w with their movement on and off the ball on a single gamer. So “realistically” you’re expected to replicate what 11 players would normally do on a football pitch using one controller.

    • @elitristan3601
      @elitristan3601 Před 6 měsíci

True. More animation also means if you press a button the outcome will get inconsistent or less predictable. It just doesn't feel good. I think they made a big mistake with the Playstyles. At first I liked the idea but if you see how it really works it's just not good. Defenders without a specific Playstyle won't do a certain animation anymore. They are just bad. Even with good stats.

Leave the competitive game to be competitive, just like controller settings you have the competitive settings you are forced to use. Do the same ingame options that the game has preset settings for Multiplayer gamemodes set as competitive and let the people who play singleplayer tweak there game to make it more realistic. The realism that Fifa needs to add is no precise first-time passes/shots when your back is facing the targeted player/area. Also the rng of tackles and skill moves needs to be adapted somehow, because you should 100% get rewarded every time you properly read and tackle someone or when you time your skill move or just your movement with the LS perfectly. You should get rewarded, but in fifa, only rng decides if you are getting rewarded or not.

Very interesting video and thanks for explaining people why ultra realism can be bad for those games. From someone mainly playing racing games, yes, in this domain, more realism (if the game aims to be a sim) is what we want, but for other sports, no. I'd say FIFA should take the example of NBA 2K about that rewarding stuff you said. In 2K despite ultra realism, you're rewarded if you do everything perfect. A bad shooter can score a three pointer if you manage to hit green.
Also from my point of view, when I ask for realism, I mean everything that goes around the actual gameplay. Like the scoreboard, the crowd, the stadiums, etc. To me, realism in sports game should be about the immersion in the environment rather than the physics itself.

But not in Fifa, yes I do love the realism too it but not too realistic. I am glad someone else still calls it Fifa, I tried calling it FC24 it felt wrong so I just call it Fifa 24 and one of my mates didn't like it, he can eat...

I think it should work both ways with options given to players

    My take on finishing:
Inside the box, finishing is garbage. It shouldn't be 100% goal, but it should be buffed a little. First time shots, tap ins, are HORRIBLE, they need to be buffed greatly.
Out side of the box, shots are way too OP. But they are meant to be OP, to counter passive, park the bus defending.
As for the realism, it should not be realism simulator. If it were, no one would be playing, after having an opponent who would be passing around the back for half an hour.

This summarises everything so well. Upto Fifa 23 I could dribble, make intelligent passes, score different kinds of goals. It rewarded me for my creativity, effort, and experience. But Fc24 is way too random. I do not even know what will go in the net, what the keeper can save, what will be blocked etc. Even when I score, I am not intrigued by it because it feels like luck honestly. That is not how a game should be. Imagine, mastering the moves in God of War, and then then the big boss kills you with something random every time. How annoying would that be? Or in GTA, an enemy attacks you with a random weapon you have never seen before. It is that annoying. If I make the effort to get that one on one, reward me, and punish the opponent for that.

I’ve been harping about this for years on the EA forums for both FIFA and NHL but people just don’t get it and especially the ones making the games.
YOU CAN’T HAVE A REALISTIC GAME THAT LAST ONLY 10-15 MINUTES!!
The point being is that certain aspects of the game need to be based in reality. Most importantly there needs to be a skill gap, reward and punishment for doing the right and wrong things with the controller. In order to produce realistic score lines and a realistic amount of scoring OPPORTUNITIES, a sport video game has to overlook some aspects of realism.
EA has this concept correct in FIFA 12 and prior games. FIFA 13 was when the bobbly, randomized bounces really started to infect the game. This was done intentionally in an attempt to mimick “realistic” gameplay. While it may have to a TINY extent, the gameplay has been plagued by much worse things like:
    - well timed tackles going back to the opposing player
    - several rebounds in a row falling right at the feet of attacking players
    - nerfed skill and dribble moves
    - random error on simple passes
All of these things used to separate the better players from the worse players. This has to change. If FIFA 12 was opened up in online play again I would be playing it all year long, daily. And I haven’t bought a FIFA title since 2017.

I like to compare FIFA and it´s „realistic mechanics“ to games like CS GO. I mean it´s clearly unrealistic to run around with a heavy sniper and no scope the fu*k out of people, buuuut it´s a competitive video game, so if I got enough skill to to do this, yeah then I am able to do this… every fu*king time, there is no thing like „oh damn he hit like 2 no scopes in a row, now the third one have to fail“ no as long as I do everything right, it will be a no scope headshot kill, whatever, because its a video game. and so it should be in FIFA if I did everything correct, I should score or get a pass right etc.

What EA has done and probably the term we're looking to use is "selective realism". The game is trying to be "realistic" with all the animations while at the same time there are unrealistic parts/features of the game such as GK movement.
I like my football video game to be arcadey hence "unrealistic" but if we're about to add more "unrealism" into them, I think we need to agree that "unrealism" like GK movement is stupid and is not acceptable at all.
On the other spectrum, some realistic features are stupid and are not acceptable also. These are constant pressure, pressuring up high and gegenpressing (press after possession loss). I know it's trying to keep it up to date with real modern football and it's realistic but it can be abused and make the whole experience worse.
Realistic or unrealistic, all the game mechanics/features that are stupid and make the whole experience worse must not be in the game. Things like missing an open goal, dropping back AI defending, double four low block, GK movement, constant pressure, clunky movement, unable to make a simple 5-yard pass, two-tackle tax, iso-play, ultra defensive formations being OP etc etc, we have to agree that all these must be kicked out from the game.
We all have to agree that "selective realism" is bad.

Your idea of artificial randomness (whether from realism or not) being an inherent detriment to esports is wrong. Randomness might hurt player experience, but it also increases Spectator Experience, and spectating is a crucial part of the esports scene.
When a player attempts to score a basically impossible equalizer goal from far away in the last minute relying on the random shooting algorithm, the crowd goes loud if it goes in the net, even though the other player got severely punished for no reason.
How are card games like Poker even an esport if randomness is a bad thing? Some characters in competitive games like Brawl Stars have randomness completely defining the character (Chester ultimate).
Football games should give the player ways to control the randomness (e.g. use a player with higher shooting stats), but not completely eliminate it, never. Of course, we can discuss how much randomness is good or bad, and I can agree the current value is too much, but still, you get my point.

A player's attributes should be there to balance your human errors. When you make a bad pass or shot (off target, too soft or hard), a player's attributes should determine a small range of "auto-correction" - ie, if you point your joystick a metre wide of the post, good finishers will correct your shot closer to the goal, within reason, and bad finishers less so. In this way, a player will always behave as you expect based on your actual input - they'll never have a bad touch, for example - and better players will feel slightly easier to play with.
But how it works now is that attributes are lottery on mistakes. You can do everything right, but if that dice rolls wrong, the outcome is ruined.

To add to the point about "souls like" games. It actually HELPS against the argument. Souls likes like Cuphead or Hollowknight are hard by design, but the reason why people play them is the reward factor for mastering a game and beating the obstacle in front of you. Imagine if at the end of a boss fight in those games there was a "random chance" that the boss would respawn or regain health or the final blow would "miss". That's what's in happening in FIFA right now, it doesn't reward you for knowing the game.

Realism would be boring, that's the reality of it. All these people scoring easy headers with Haaland or Virgil would stop playing if corners were realistic. On average a corner is gonna end in a goal at a rate of 0.022 or 1 goal every 10 games. But this game with the right player, you can score as many corner goals as you get corners. If this game was more realistic ratings would matter more. Hidden gems would stop being a thing. An 85 who is cracked isn't gonna do a thing against 95s. RIP your 88 Ederson bc he's facing 95 R9. Thats what realism does. A game more arcade like allows for lesser rated cards to hang in with higher rated cards if the player is good enough. Thats how you get anti-meta builds or rogue builds.

i think ultimate team should be less realistic, but in career mode there should be a realism and hyperrealism setting both for gameplay, transfers and 50-70 rated reserve players not asking to play in a champions league final. What i mean is that instead of watching guides for realistic sliders that make the game more difficult than realistic, actually having a gameplay realism setting in career mode is needed, and realistic transfer rules for every licensed league should be a feature you can turn on or off. It will make every league feel more different, because the mls has different rules than the premier league for transfers and ffp. ffp should also be something you can turn on in the career mode settings, i like that you can enable handballs though. var should also be something you can turn on. athletic club bilbao is another club with very complicated rules you should be able to turn on and off. but i do agree that ultimate team should be more arcadey and less realistic, so it is easier to progress and actually fun, career mode is different because that is not just about gameplay and a fun part is being a manager/player, and doing the nongameplay things as well in between matches, i also want career mode to have more of a storyline and an open worldish thing like nba2k and when you buy something you can walk around there as a player, like a mansion or a penthouse. I also want upgradeable stadiums in career mode and then ultimate team to be the more video gamey thing, with basic physics applying and players making mistakes based on stats and your ability as a fifa player, graphics also need to be realistic of course, but ultimate team is automatically gonna have to be less realistic and more fast and fun. i also like that in career mode you can turn on player based difficulty so players that are higher rated will be a difficulty higher intelligence wise while lower rating players will play as a lower difficulty but i also want that to apply to how your own players feel, because sometimes if i aim well a lower rated player will be just as good at hitting the target as a higher rated one, the difference is just the goalie is better at saving lower rated players shots, but if it is cpu they hit the target much less when they are lower rated with player based dif turned on, i would also love online career mode and female career mode. Player based dif is obviously not something that should be in fut because it would make evolutions impossible. Excuse the rant!!!
