    That first act is probably one of the best acts I have seen, maybe ever! Purely magical. I have no freaking idea how he did that. Like Penn said, after the 3rd one where he showed the palm side of his hand, and still did it? And, he showed the hat, there was only 2 balls. I feel like maybe there were bits of paper if you squeezed the ball that would come out to look like he tossed it in the hat? I don't freakin know, nor do I care. Perfection at it's best! Best magic I've seen since first seeing Shin Lim (modern era)

    11:39 - I'm not sure Penn's credit to her memory is part of this. She may have some tiny details of the cube's surface different, so that by feel she knows which color. At 11:45 she uses fingers of both hands, and pulls the cube apart just slightly. Maybe she feels the giveaway somewhere in there. At 13:00 the downside of the cube is fixed BEFORE it's put into Penn's hands. The lower surface has some chemical on it that will turn all squares yellow. What I'll never figure out is how she can control WHICH of the four chemicals to use. (It's only four because by the way she turns the cube at the beginning, Penn cannot pick either the white or the orange face. The white face has to be taken out of contention because it' no magic-trick to have white paper turn white to reveal the color. Orange is out because it's opposite white.) Because she can't control the mixing-up of the cube, it's necessary for all 54 tiles on the faces to have this chemical sensitivity. I was wondering how she smeared the chemical onto only ONE face of the cube (those 9 tiles), and couldn't see how that was done anywhere. Then I noticed how at 12:55 or 12:56 she delivers a thump to the top of the cube. That could rupture something that, by gravity alone, reaches only the 9 tiles on the cube's bottom face and changes them and only them. And that doesn't work because then how does she pick WHICH chemical it is that spills within the tube? Okay, let's think on that. Maybe she put the cube in Penn's hands so that the center tile on the bottom face is yellow. (There's only one yellow tile on the center of each face. No matter how you scramble a Rubik's Cube, any tile that started out as the center tile of a face will always remain the center tile of a face.) When she thumps the cube, all four relevant center tiles (again, excluding white and orange) undergo some rupture that will color all the tiles on that face the same color as the face, but only if gravity so allows, and gravity allows it for only the bottom face where the center tile is yellow. This is all completely wrong, of course, but it's all I got.

      TopherThe11th: There's something unfortunate in the front cover of the notepad on which the picture is made. It's yellow. Now, for all I know, she's got ONE notepad under the table (where we can't see) and has brought out this ONE notepad (which happens to have a yellow front-cover, but she hasn't noticed that, to her it's just the front cover of a notepad that she bought at a store), and only ONE notepad was under the lectern's top, and the front cover of the notepad doesn't have ANYTHING to do with the trick. But, unfortunately, Penn then has a one-in-four chance of picking the yellow face of the cube, and when that notepad is brought out the audience will think "She's got four notepads under there, and if Penn picks the red face she brings out the notepad that has the red cover, which is prepped for the chemical reaction that causes the bottom squares to turn red. If he'd picked green, she'd select the notepad with the green cover". I DO NOT think this is how she does it (i.e. she does NOT have four notepads to choose from out of sight under the lectern's top), because that yellow cover on that notepad just sticks out like a sore thumb as matching Penn's chosen color, and then the audience feels like it's not a magic trick at all because it' just choosing the notepad whose cover matches the chosen cube-face. If she performs this trick in the future, she should use a notepad with a plain gray cover.

      It's because 720p reveals so much detail that you can see how every trick is performed. There's a special screen in-between the audience and the stage so that they see it in 480p and, thus, are completely mystified. Actually, you don't need a screen for this. You can just hypnotize the audience to see the world in 480p. (I remember I once went outside. It was in 2004. And I thought "How do they get the resolution so good out here? It's amazing". It was so realistic that I felt I could just reach out and touch the various trees and fences that I saw.)

Just mind that, while performing Robert-Houdin's water-tank escape trick, you don't get confused or switched around and end up with the GIANT standing on YOUR shoulders, because you'll drown.

    Javi Rufo (1:00 et seq) seems, to me, never to drop a ball into that hat. The color of the ball never crosses any part of the black rearward brim of the hat, nor does it ever obscure any of the darker black of the interior of the hat. I think he's dropping the balls BEHIND the hat. Unfortunately, that doesn't explain ANYTHING about the trick. I can GUESS, though: the balls don't go into the hat but actually fall down a hollow leg at the back of the stool, through the floor, and into a space-time vortex connected to a Black Hole at the other end of the visible universe. Emerging from the Black Hole's other side, the balls reappear in Javi's hand. The technology was perfected decades ago for the Transport teleportation platform needed for the Start-Trek TV-series. This guess MIGHT not be correct, but it's obvious enough that Penn & Teller should have at least TRIED it on the off-chance it turned out to be correct.

  • @topherthe11th23
    @topherthe11th23 Před 18 dny +1

    36:23 - Jim Vines was up against the slight-of-hand disadvantage that I noticed back when Jonathan Ross was hosting the show. You can have perfect execution and still not get the trophy. If Penn & Teller KNOW how you do every move you do, but they can't actually SEE it (just like the rest of us), they don't consider themselves fooled. To me, I'd go by the visual perception. If I KNOW how you got that pigeon to be under the handkerchief but my EYES couldn't actually DETECT you doing it, I'd say that, from the perspective of my eyes, I got fooled. It's only because of my BRAIN (if I know the moves) that I'm not fooled. But then where do you draw the line. You could take it to the absurdity of saying "Well, you fooled our senses but our intellects tell us that you're a magician, and so you've probably done all this stuff by means of clever magic-tricks. We know that". That's why it shouldn't be based on what P&T KNOW, but on what they SEE. And in this case I'll bet that just like the rest of us they didn't see ANYTHING.

    • @topherthe11th23
      @topherthe11th23 Před 18 dny +2

      @johnbird7357 - You can kinda see enough to get it. Brooke's picked card was the Queen of Clubs, and when Teller turns everything over the Queen of Clubs is the only card NOT in the deck. (Look in-between the King or Clubs and Jack of Clubs). So it's a fail on the bet, because the pair bet her that her card WAS there. But it's a deliberate fail, for we are left to wonder HOW they fixed it so that they could target one specific card that's not known to them to be the missing card. That's the magic-trick. I don't see how they could have done a force on Brooke's choice, so I'm going to hazard that all 52 cards in that deck are the Queen of Clubs, and the Queen of Clubs is always missing from the big deck under the handkerchief. But it's not missing when the cards are back-side up (7X8 = 56 cards i.e. 52 suit-cards, two jokers, two advertising-cards). When the big card is turned over and all the cards are front-side up, there's only 55 cards, and the Queen of Clubs is missing. As to how the gap for the missing card appears when you turn a rectangle over, it's a variation on a Sam Loyd (a.k.a. "Sam LLoyd") puzzle of cutting up a checkerboard (it has to be a checkerboard where all of the squares are the SAME color, not a checkered pattern) and reassembling it so that there's 65 squares, not the original 64 that an 8X8 checkerboard must have. It's in W'i'k'i'p'e'd'i'a. Penn & Teller's dissection is not EXACTLY the same, but if you google for math puzzles enough you can find it or a means to generalize the puzzle as for squares to a puzzle as for the dimensions of playing-cards.

    33:15 - I feel sorry for Jim Vines. That ingot of bullion at 33:15 cannot possibly be real, because real gold of that volume would weigh so much that you'd have to strain just to lift it off the table with both hands. Poor guy spent a few million bucks on a gold bar for a magic act, and he got cheated. By the way, everything was flawless. I never saw a thing. I know that sometimes he put am empty palm down on the table and when that palm came up again something was in it, but all I can see the palm going down onto is the black tablecloth. I don't think he had everything backed with the tablecloth and aligned on the pattern, because something would always be visible even doing that. Sometimes he'd get a hand close to his mouth, but it would never actually touch his mouth nor even be between his mouth and the camera, so I don't think he's retrieving stuff that way.

    24:06 you can see him take the card out of the box, but the way it disappeared was magical, even frame by frame you can't see it, one frame it's a card and next it's a match. i think it slips thru a hidden panel into his hand. that's only way it can be done and that's why he grabs the card right after.

    • @topherthe11th23
      @topherthe11th23 Před 19 dny +1

      @SethiozProject - Also, a moment earlier than 24:06, you see that the card merely falls forward as the match is flicked out from behind it. The back side of the card, which looks like the plain gray cardboard on the inside of a cereal-box, is visible as the face of the clear-plastic box that faces the floor. Teller's face shows a bit of a surprise, as does the face and mannerisms of Sean Ridgeway (the magician/contestant). So I wonder if that part of the trick was supposed to go a different way, and went wrong. HOWEVER, this issue goes nowhere towards explaining how the trick is done, how the two free-choice cards in the boxes disappear (I assume that the Kings Of Clubs were somehow in there already, and that what has to be done is make the other cards vanish), and how a drawer-and-sleeve matchbox in Penn's pocket was altered.

They *said* he fooled them because it played better for television and it was clear Shin Lim would be a huge sensation, but that's as far as it goes. What did Javi Rufo do where they couldn't catch it? That's what I'm trying to figure out. Was the hat gimmicked? I noticed he didn't bounce the red ball at all, he only bounced the white ball. I feel like he had an invisible string going through the balls. His hand behind his back has a remote control that would drop one ball at a time, and the ball would slide down the inside of his arm into his hand, and the balls had a cut in where you could remove them from the string.
